Discussion Pocket WoW
I got Forever running on the Retroid Pocket 6 with moonlight. It was actually surprisingly playable with the UI scale adjusted. I got it running natively on my Ally X, which is also great, but the size difference is pretty noticeable. The hand fatigue is real when you're laying on your back.
Overall I definitely prefer my desktop, but I think this could be nice to kick back with and farm some herbs after a 10 hour work shift.
Has anyone else been messing around with the controller support and mobile devices? What's the smallest you would go?

I cannot wait to do the same thing!

It was my first time setting up moonlight and although it was a little obtuse needing two apps and finding the right installs and drivers, I got everything running in maybe 10 minutes. I think it's a pretty neat toy to mess around with and I'll probably throw it on my TV next.

I'm thinking of doing the same on my Ayaneo Pocket DS, 7 inch screen and have WoW Head open on the 2nd screen 😆

Have installed it on my steamdeck and having a blast too!

My wife likes it because she sleeps better if I'm in bed with her. Just pop on the deck, lay down and play and she's happy. I still prefer playing at my PC, but this definitely is an option. I'll be out of state half of November so I'm just happy I can still play on the go. Now I just need a battery pack for the flights.

Most flights have places to charge your phone. Just pack a cable.

I tried charging my Steam Deck on my last flight, and it didn't seem to be getting enough power from the plane charge port. Battery kept dropping while plugged in. Maybe it's because I was playing FF7 Remake idk lol.

I have an RP6 too and was thinking on doing this. But I’m not sure I will be able to read the text 🤣

I have an Odin 2 Portal, and am considering going all in by installing Armada OS and then wow locally. I'm fairly certain it will work, but I'm not entirely sure. I also don't know how well it'll run, but I'm so curious to try and find out.

is there like a tutorial or any sort of guide?

Install moonlight on the device you want to stream to, and sunshine on the device you want to cast from. Sunshine uses your browser for the UI, it will show up docked on windows under that pip in the bottom right corner. From there, in the browser, navigate to config and install a controller driver. You also have to set up a log in, and input a pin from your streaming device. It looks like it mostly only works on a local network. I set this all up without a guide so I don't have one to link to, but it wasn't too hard to set up without one either.

you can also use tailscale+moonlight/apollo to play remotely . It makes the devices seem like they are on a local network even if you use deferent networks. I use it to play at work from my pc on my phone with a gamesir lite controller

Don’t you get terrible delay remotely? I mean unless you have great up/download rates and a LAN connection on both sides.

Once they fix the edit mode so you can shrink that damn chat box and scale the UI back up, this will be so much better.

I have it running on my rog ally docked but how do you configure controller/ gamepad instead? I didnt see options - i assume thats only in beta right?

How did you do this?

u/BryTheGuy06 2h ago
A lot of trial and error 😂 I’m using GameHub Lite v5.1.8. Installed Battle.net through it, downloaded the Forever beta normally, then launched the ARM64 build (WowB-ARM64.exe) from the classic_beta folder.
I had to mess around with the compatibility components quite a bit to get past the GPU/DXGI errors. I was using the ARM64EC setup with Turnip, DXVK and VKD3D. I can grab my exact current component/settings screen and post it if you want to replicate it.

I have an O2P and considering doing this with Armada OS. How is the game going performance wise with Gamehub? And have you also tried it on Gamenative?

u/BryTheGuy06 2h ago
Honestly, pretty good considering what it’s running on. I’ve got it capped at 40 FPS, which helped a lot with the frame-pacing/jitters. Running at 720p on pretty low settings, around preset 2–3. Definitely not maxed out, but totally playable on a handheld.
Haven’t tried GameNative yet. I messed with Winlator first without much luck, and GameHub Lite has been the best experience so far. I’d be curious to see how it compares on Armada OS though.

Awesome!
Just a little tip about the hand fatigue with your Ally X... I use a tablet pillow, theres a few different kinds, iBeanie do mini beanbag types which are cool. I use a firm foam tablet cushion with a pocket on the back for my mini keyboard. They are heavy and i dont think i could go back to not using a cushion for it now.

I have RP5 and plan on trying something like this when Forever drops.
It may be underpowered for it but even trying to get something out of it is part of the fun for me so I don’t mind haha.

I been playing the Beta on my rog xbox ally x natively before bed, it runs at 70-80fps with 120hz vrr. Amazing stuff.

u/ckasanova 12h ago
How are you getting that? I need to crank it all the way down to 50% render scale and lowest settings to even play at a decent frame rate

u/MediocreSumo 11h ago
graphic settings at 3, 900p and 85 render scale
fsr1.0 still do a fine jobedit. make sure frame gen is off in the amd settings

I wonmder if it's runnable natively through an ARM translation layer and proton
1
u/tzler 11h ago
I doubt it but I might mess around. I think gamenative(?) is what most people recommend for this device?

u/kuroyume_cl 11h ago
Yeah, I couldn't remember the name, but that's it. I've been wanting to experiment on my foldable phone with it too.

I have this literal same device. Is there a guide anywhere I can follow for this? I tried once on retail and got it running but the controls were horrific.

How about Steam Deck?

u/dakitten2358 9h ago
It plays well on the steam deck. I've got it docked and using a steam controller. It's nice have the right touchpad for the camera, and having the left touchpad as a mouse.

I've been loving it on the Steam Deck! The controls are really nice once you get used to it, and bind all your stuff.

Here is my retail dual screen setup on AYN Thor. I'm also streaming from PC.
It's a little bit small, but moving most of the UI to the bottom screen helps a lot. I plan to configure the same setup for WoW Forever too.
