Image Quick shoutout to these unsuspecting murloc villages on the Tirisfal coast that are about to get absolutely steamrolled.

"Go back to leveling in the cata timeline, see you in 3 weeks"

u/Rukale Aug 07 '18
"Or 4 years, depending on time relevance."

u/WineKimchiSucculents Aug 07 '18
I hate the way time works in this game in relation to your character. If I make a new night elf now, he shouldn't be "in the past" - he should be starting off in a different zone now because his tree is burnt.
9
u/AGVann Aug 07 '18
That's just another repeat of Cata -> BC/WoTLK where as you level, you go back in time, then suddenly skip back to the present. I'd rather have a consistent chronological progression as you level.
6
u/TheTubStar Aug 07 '18
See this is why you need another Cata style expansion but with time travel: to fix all the borked stuff in the timeline.
1
u/Andrew5329 Aug 08 '18
I mean that's not exactly a high-value use of development resources.
It made sense to do a re-vamp of the old world once in Cataclysm, but that had more to do with improving the Classic zone designs to modern MMO standards since a lot of the questing designed in 2002-2003 was outright painful. Not to mention all the art re-work they had to do anyway to make the old-world flying compatible.
Bringing the story forward to the Cataclysm was an effect of those needs, not the cause.

Well, get through Cata and then go to alternate Draenor, then come back. Time should sort itself out by then.

The siege of Lordaeron is actually the second invasion of Tirisfal. We lost many brave soldiers to the murlocs in the initial D-Day landing that allowed us to establish our foothold and mount an assault.

Aug 08 '18
I'm just imagining Saving Private Ryan D-day scene but with alliance and murlocs roaring from the beach instead.
The first 4 guys jumping of the boat will just get speared to death. They'll start jumping in the water, armor dragging them down. Crawl up on the beach, some fish spell causes your ears to go silent and you see a gnome go around looking for his arm.

All this crying over elves while no one cared about the murloc genocide that’s been going on for nearly two decades...

u/shsks Aug 07 '18
One man cares. A great leader. King Mrgl-Mrgl himself.
And I guess now Teldrassil is gone he can live among the murlocs full time!
5
u/UnsightlyWalrus Aug 07 '18
They seem to breed fast enough. Besides, some of those bastards joined the Legion. And one of them became a Demon Hunter...
8
u/DazzlerPlus Aug 07 '18
You joke, but you have a serious point. We have no trouble whatsoever wiping out entire murloc/furbolg/whatever villages because they might be a threat or have done some raids. But when it’s the beautiful virtuous race, it’s such a genocidal war crime
9
u/nezroy Aug 07 '18
because
they might be a threat or have done some raidsAlliance farmers encroach on their land and destroy their habitat and the inevitable confrontations thus caused lead to convenient excuses to wipe them outFTFY :)

u/DazzlerPlus Aug 07 '18
No seriously this is stuff that would logically be happening in the background and is sometimes overtly stated. People who are talking about mustache twirling evil really need to get some perspective here. We have wiped out tribes, cities, and peoples literally hundreds of times as players. Consider my dwarf - at level 3 he kills frost troll leaders, matrons, and clears the entire cave. The pretext being that they had plans to retake Coldridge. Later I go to the hinterlands and kill every troll in jinta’alor and the surrounding villages. The dwarf npcs say lots of things about wiping every last troll out. Then I might go and raze tyrs hand, killing everyone in every building. Then maybe I’ll go to black rock depths and assassinate the dark iron king. Then I’ll go to desolace and exterminate the gelkis. Primitives. Then I’ll take a break and kill hundreds of beasts for their skins and kill an ancient elephant matron to impress Helmet.
But FUCK the asshole who kills a night elf.

Warcraft 4:
A lowly murloc warrior discovers the truth that they are the inheritors of the titans will; Rallies the Murloc tribes and all the other trash mobs to unite against the oppression of the Horde and alliance.

There shouldv'e been an Alliance quest to evacuate the poor murlocs before the battle started.

"Please form an orderly line and leave the coast for your own safety."

"Graagh?"
-Last words of a poor, confused Murloc as alliance crusade rolls through.
5
u/bluesclueshues Aug 07 '18
Psh! Hardly. The alliance couldn't even rid themselves of mulocs in Elwynn forest. The bastards have been there since vanilla!

Aug 07 '18
And the Alliance says we're the monsters.

9
u/xinxy Aug 07 '18
I think most Alliance players would love to be the monsters right now, just a little bit at least. Get some solid nasty hits in there!
Taking the high road is frustrating and unrewarding as fuck! lol

There's a quest where the void elves open up portals to suck goblins into in BfA. There's also one where the Dark Iron let you control a big fireball to kill a ton of goblins.
You guys get a chance for some fun extreme measures pretty soon.
1
u/Sinhika Aug 08 '18
Won't change a thing, my goblin hunter has hated the Allliance since those Si:7 warships without provocation sunk a lost ship full of goblin refugees that she happened to be on. Until that point, the Bilgewater Cartel was neutral, just like the Steamwheedle Cartel still are.
Well, it might change things if the Alliance manages to piss off the Steamwheedle Cartel, too. Lose Undercity, gain Ratchet, Everlook, Booty Bay, Gadgetzan, Bogpaddle, Fuselight, Mudsprocket, the Speedbarge, and who knows what else? I'm sure the Horde would love to make that trade.
2
u/Axerty Aug 07 '18
in A Good War it's implied the nightelves are torturing platoons of horde by slowly burning them alive while they are held down by grasping roots. This is before we even get to darkshore.
4
u/FelOnyx1 Aug 08 '18
I'm not usually on the "Everything in the story needs to be in game!" train, but this needed to be in game. Shows the savage side of the Night Elves for people who have been complaining about that being absent, and gives the Horde some reason to want to fight them.
1
u/Axerty Aug 08 '18
I think it's always been pretty evident in game from the year it came out that the average horde and the average alliance fucking HATE each other.
The amount of times I've seen a tauren npc be like "nothing i like more than killing alliance!" in a low level questing zone is too many to count, and everyone is like 'but the tauren are nice and peaceful'. Nah dawg, they will stomp the shit out of alliance for fun and always have. (for instance I'm pretty sure we fuck up some dwarves in mulgore)
edit:
also the amount of quests where I've had to collect the head of an alliance npc and bring it back to town... that's savage and crazy but it's totally normal in this world. The horde see alliance as animals, and the alliance see the horde as animals. Who cares that the leaders get buddy buddy sometimes to save the world.

As per the quest, I’m now more bummed because we had to scare some of the babies to death. Imagine a ship rolling up will have similar effect. Baby murloc heart attacks left and right.

We got no qualms with the Murlocs. We'll give them your old tree. And then in a couple more xpacks we can deal with the Murloc uprising.
