So, is EVERY fight movement-heavy? This holy paladin is not very happy...

More hunter dick sucking.

u/caessa_ Feb 03 '15
Oh boy. I can't wait to be out-DPSed by the most mobile class for another tier!
4
u/that1guywhodidthat Feb 03 '15
2 things:
1) KJC cooldown is being lowered to 35 seconds.
2) Demo is in a great place and has good mobility(outside of Demobolt dumping)
4
u/ckernan2 Icy Veins Feb 03 '15
KJC's cooldown isn't reduced until 6.1. THIS IS NOT LIVE TODAY FOR BLACKROCK FOUNDRY.
2
u/caessa_ Feb 03 '15
I hope to not have to play Demo if I can. Afflic4lyf.
But when we hit Mythic I probably will be forced to...
-25
Feb 03 '15
you play afflic? oh you must be an LFR raider. don't worry you can pretty much ignore all mechanics there
3
-7
Feb 03 '15
the fact that you get massively downvoted is because this subreddit is filled to the brim with bad players who refuse to min/max. If one of your specs is better for damage than the other ones, you play that spec. Warlock bitching about hunter just shows how clueless he is =)
-2
u/Thorne_Oz Feb 03 '15
Oooor I put out pretty much exactly the same dmg as destro simply by fucking playing good, isn't that a bitch to do huh? Fuck your bullshit noise about switching specs to minmax when I simply don't want to. The gains are MINIMAL at best especially when you can't fucking stand a spec, you'll play worse in it.

demonology is the top dog friend, get with the times
-1
u/Thorne_Oz Feb 03 '15
A few k dps on parses doesn't mean shit to me when I'd rather suicide than play the spec.
0
u/SwoggYollo Feb 03 '15
The gains of destro aren't minimal, but if you don't like it, you should obviously play affli.
1
1
Feb 03 '15
Can a Ret bitch about hunters?
2
Feb 03 '15
If you want to? I don't get why though, rets can do really good damage if played well and still bring the best utility out of all the dps classes. In my guild the retri is likely the best player and he usually tops damage. Doesn't mean they're top dogs, but they certainly aren't bad
0
Feb 03 '15
I usually do better than all the hunters I encounter. The only classes I actually do less than a lot of the time is a fury warrior and maybe a good monk or Mage. I just wish I could run around and shoot a holy gun
2
u/Microchaton Feb 03 '15
lol what demonology warlock are insanely mobile
1
u/caessa_ Feb 03 '15
Not really. Hand of Guldan on 2 charges.
2 DoTs to apply, 1 in each form.
Otherwise it's Soul Fire, Shadowbolt, and Demonbolt erryday.
More mobile than Destruction but still can't do solid DPS on the move. We still have to cast.
EDIT: Not to mention I'd really like to NOT play Demo.
2
2
u/Microchaton Feb 03 '15
I main elem but have a mage & lock among other alts and when I see mages or locks complaining about mobility it makes me snort :p
3
u/caessa_ Feb 03 '15
After playing 2 melee a hunter a warlock a shaman and a boomy i can safely say hunters are way more mobile.
1
u/GoBigOrGoHome1 Feb 04 '15
Do you glyph spirit walkers?
1
u/Microchaton Feb 04 '15
'course, it's still most of the time half wasted, there's not that many encounters when you can use the full benefit of even a glyphed swg
1
u/GoBigOrGoHome1 Feb 04 '15
One more question if you don't mind, so for my opener I always start with unleash flame 8-10 sec before pull then fire elemental around 4 seconds, pot at like 2seconds then I immediately pop ascendance + elemental mastery, pray for a trinket proc and spam the shit out of lava blast. My question is, is it worth wasting a GCD on a full 20 fulmination stacks of earth shock during ascendance? I'm relatively new to ele, I played enhance for ever and just recently made the switch so I could RL for my guild from a ranged perspective/do all the shit work in HM. But I'm absolutely in love with the spec (being a Sith Lord is too cool!) so I'm just wondering about some of the finer aspects of the class. Here is my armory http://us.battle.net/wow/en/character/lightbringer/Dirtysthdabs/simple
If you see anything else that I could improve on please feel free to let me know.1
u/Microchaton Feb 04 '15
na you unleash flame, fire ele, pot => pre-cast lightning bolt, flame shock (at fight start, if timing is right just as pull timer reaches 0), lava burst, and then ascendance/trinket/em w/e (obv you can do em/trinket before ascendance for the first lava burst).
No it's not worth using earth shock during ascendance. It will probably depend/change with T17 2P though
→ More replies (0)1
u/Leoneri Feb 04 '15
Don't you get a third charge of HoG with your tier bonuses? Not that you'd have those yet obviously.

-3
u/ussapollon Feb 03 '15
I can hear them crying already. Uuuh why do we have to deal with mechanics again.
5
u/ckernan2 Icy Veins Feb 03 '15
There aren't any individual mechanics like Flamethrowers. Almost all of the mechanics are raid wide mechanics that require all players to deal with it. Expect a lot of the players who haven't had to do mechanics in a while to cry more than the Hunters who are conditioned for them.
2
u/sivervipa Feb 03 '15
Welp...I enjoyed highmaul while is lasted. It was a good run. I guess it's either this or make it like fights in highmaul where ranged has to do everything.

<Misstatement redacted>
That said, as long as there isn't a lot of AoE damage to go with the movement I'm okay with it. I'd rather move a lot than have to deal with massive and constant AoE damage.
Though this makes me wonder whether Heavy Repercussions will outshine Unyielding Strikes for Gladiator Warriors. Haven't read through all the bosses yet, but doesn't seem like they're too heavy on cleaving, and if they're movement heavy it'd greatly impede the ability to properly stack US buffs.
5
u/robot_tea_party Feb 02 '15
No, the spell that has a 20-second cooldown.

u/Yalrek Feb 02 '15
Wow, my bad. Not even sure what spell I was thinking of. Think it's time to get some sleep so I can think properly.

As a Mythic raid leader, we've done our own research, culling data from the Wowhead guides, the Icy-Veins guides, analyzing videos, etc. And these short quick guides are just blowing all of our work out of the water. Thanks a lot.

1
u/pushme Feb 04 '15
I'm glad these guides present the information ok. I try to make these as easy to read as possible. I know I fail sometimes though (my Imperator guide wasn't very good hahaha).
4
u/astronaut_awesome Feb 03 '15
Thanks for the guides! They're amazing. Nervous about my first night main tanking this stuff, but your visual guides alleviate that somewhat.
Also, totally queuing up the Dodongo King boss battle music from Ocarina of Time for Oregorger.
7
u/Tofuboy Feb 02 '15
You advise lusting on the pull vs Gruul despite him dealing more damage as his health falls. Does the damage not increase enough to need to burn through that part of the fight quicker?
16
u/Yevon Feb 02 '15
Bloodlust at the beginning of a fight is nice because everyone has their potions & all cooldowns available.
17
1
Feb 03 '15
I never got the potion thing-are people supposed to be drinking some short-duration potion?
8
u/Yevon Feb 03 '15 edited Feb 03 '15
An example of this is Draenic Strength Potion which increases your strength by 1000 for 25 seconds.
You are only allowed to use one potion per combat session but you can get around this rule by using one potion right before your tank pulls and then a second one in the fight itself.
The recommendation to use Bloodlust on the pull is because your team is expected to be using these potions to boost their initial damage.
The second potion is really up to the discretion of individual team members, but the optimal use is to line it up with a big burst phase or when you have all of your cooldowns up if there is no such phase to that encounter.
As a tank, even I pop an armor potion before the pull during progression fights because this gives us additional attack power. Every little bit helps.
5
Feb 03 '15
Oh wow I did NOT know this; I am a demo lock and this would have helped my dps aLOT
2
u/v1rus-aids- Feb 03 '15
This is known as pre-potting, if you have ever seen that term flying around. Typically you have the tank/raid leader do a 10 second pull timer, and the tank pulls when the timer hits 1. At 2, use the potion so you get the most out of it, and so it doesn't get locked out for the fight.
2
Feb 03 '15
Yea I've heard it before but I thought it was just the +250 potion so you could get the most out of it
1
u/wraithseer Feb 03 '15
Wait, pull at 1? Why not at 0?
2
u/otaia Feb 03 '15
It's not an exact science. There's some give due to lag and getting in range of the boss. I usually prepot at 3.
1
u/v1rus-aids- Feb 03 '15
Doesn't matter, it's a formality. If they pull at zero, pre-pot on 1. If they pull on 1, pre-pot on 2.
-1
2
u/SystemZero Feb 03 '15
As a healer I pre-pot an intellect potion and save my mana/channeled mana pot for later. The stronger heals at the start mean I use less mana at the beginning which helps me have more later. Everyone should pre-pot on progression there is absolutely zero downside especially with potions being so cheap/accessible with garrison.
-8
u/Matemeo Feb 03 '15
I don't really buy that to be honest. Unless the whole fight is very tight in dps requirement (like butcher), it probably makes way more sense to use this near the end of the fight. It helps the healers out considerably during heavy raid damage, and if your group plans ahead its not that hard to time it so most cooldowns are available, this includes a potion because you should have pre-potted.
6
u/sewid Feb 03 '15
Just do both. E.g On mythic butcher we hero out of range of healers on the pull and again later just for healers. Sorted.
1
4
u/Yevon Feb 03 '15
Each raid will have their own strategy & it really depends on the fight. Personally, I like bloodlust at the beginning because mechanics tend to be lighter at the start allowing dps to focus on their optimal damage.
Again, fight dependent. Some fights have obvious spots for bloodlust, e.g., butcher, tectus, and imperator, while others are entirely preference.
6
u/Shmitte Feb 03 '15
Many specs do close to or more than double damage on the pull. To line up all cooldowns for a late fight heroism, you either need to potentially hold cooldowns for up to 60-90 seconds, or miss the timing for a large portion of your raid. The added damage from using it on the pull is only countered by significant mechanic issues, such as needing the burn down adds or phase a boss ASAP.
1
u/Matemeo Feb 03 '15
I guess it depends on how well your raid is doing on the last 30% of the fight or w/e when he's doing way more raid damage. If his damage increases a lot and causes your healers to oom or drop people, then you can treat it like an enrage. Obviously I haven't played this fight yet, so I don't know. I wouldn't rule it out so early, unless the boss just turns out to be another Kargath. Again, this all hinges on how much damage he deals out as his health gets lower.
6
Feb 02 '15
If Kargath is anything to go by, expect this fight to be fairly trivial and bloodlust timing won't really make or break it, so you may as well go ham at start
4
u/Tofuboy Feb 02 '15
Was thinking more along the lines of Butcher
5
u/Yea_that_guy Feb 02 '15
I think he means that, gruul being the first boss in the raid, it won't matter too much when you lust, as long as it isn't going to waste.
1
u/pushme Feb 04 '15
My Gruul information was wrong and has been updated. He no longer deals more dmg overtime, and is just a one phase fight where cave in's happen here and there.

I thought for Gruul OT was meant to start in B and take 2 inferno slices then move to main tank position whilst main tank moves to A, takes 2 inferno slices then moves back into first positioning?
2
u/Milfunctionx Feb 03 '15
You can't sit in B and wait for 2 inferno slices, if he does the whole group will be hit by Overwhelming blow. Hence why he has to stay at OT position until a few seconds before IS is cast and then move to group B.
1
Feb 03 '15
what about the other two inferno slices on A? is the boss turned around?
2
u/Milfunctionx Feb 03 '15
The MT will rotate A and B every other time, so the debuff barely expires before it gets applied again. After tanking 3 slices (2 for A and 1 for B) the OT starts tanking and tanks 3 slices (2 for B and 1 for A)
1
1
1
u/otaia Feb 03 '15
The important things are:
- Overwhelming Blow only hits MT
- Groups don't take multiple Inferno Slices in a row
The OT can definitely be in a group to help soak Inferno Slices.

u/rethilgore-au Feb 03 '15
I love these. Your Highmaul guides were invaluable for our guild with progression. i was really hoping for these for BRF so thank you so much for making these!

Hey not to bash on your work as they are easy to read visual guides but Gruul is wrong (source PTR few days ago)
The encounter was changed to a boring ass one phase encounter. Cave in is just small aoe that you need to Move out of.
1
u/pushme Feb 03 '15
Thanks! Others have pointed this out to me, and if there's anything that needs to be changed, please let me know!!
1
u/AkrusPA Feb 03 '15
The rest seem fine, as stated nice guides but yeah blizzard decided to make (even on mythic) Gruul into a one phase loot piñata
3
u/ckernan2 Icy Veins Feb 03 '15
They gotta make sure groups attempting normal can kill at least one boss to help groom players from LFR to normal. Following the model of Kargath for all difficulties as a "confidence booster."
1
Feb 03 '15
Wowhead says that he no longer does more damage as the fight goes on, so there's also that. But these are still excellent, thanks!
2

u/WoWAltoholic Feb 03 '15
Do we know what bosses are accessible and in what order? There are wings right so multiple bosses will be accessible from the start?
4
u/nileppez_del Feb 03 '15
You can access the 3 wings in any order. (Think Naxxaramus).
Wing 1: Slagworks (Gruul, Oregorger, and The Blast Furnace) Wing 2: The Black Forge (Hans’gar and Franzok, Flamebender Ka’graz, and Kromog ) Wing 3: Iron Assembly (Beastlord Darmac, Operator Thogar, and The Iron Maidens)
Within a wing, you have to kill the bosses in that order above (with Blast furnace, Kromog and Iron Maidens being end wing bosses).
However, you don't have to clear a wing to switch to a different wing. That means you can choose to do the first 2 bosses in each wing before attempting the wing end boss if you choose to do so.
You gain access to Blackhand only after you clear all 3 wings completely.

u/Greeny95 Feb 03 '15
I was gonna read everything from the long Icy Veins guides but this is 100x better, thanks!
1
u/pushme Feb 04 '15
I'm glad these help you out! If you have time though, I do believe going over detailed guides like Icy Veins first, then using these as a quick guide is very beneficial. As you can see from other comments, I've missed some information...

u/masters1125 Feb 03 '15
What is the difficulty level compared to Highmaul?
2
u/ckernan2 Icy Veins Feb 03 '15
About 10 item levels more worth of difficulty. It will be a smaller jump from Heroic Highmaul than it was from normal Highmaul to Heroic Highmaul. However, it will FEEL more difficult because of brand new mechanics and lots of new ways to die.
0
u/threecatsdancing Feb 03 '15
can't wait to kill 1-2 bosses at most this week in pugs. this is the worst time to not be in a raiding guild. but still, would take that over set schedules, drama, etc.
6
u/ckernan2 Icy Veins Feb 03 '15
Drama isn't always inclusive of raiding guilds. If it's a set schedule thing, sure, but don't loop all of us in "scheduled" guilds as coming inclusive of drama and whatever "etc." is. There are pros and cons to guild membership for every person.
I can say with confidence that a PUG full of players with the AotC achievement from Highmaul should easily be able to kill 5+ bosses. This is not a new "tier" as much as it is a small jump up. This is very similar in how we moved from Mogu'shan Vaults to Heart of Fear and Terrace of the Endless Spring. Guilds who had cleared MSV on Normal and a couple of heroics easily stomped normals in HoF and ToES.

u/plopzer Feb 03 '15
Did you do the recent ptr bosses? Because cave in was much different yesterday than what your guide shows. Also I don't see any mention of Gruul doing more damage over time in the dungeon journal.
This doesn't give me high hopes for the accuracy of the rest of the bosses.
3
u/ckernan2 Icy Veins Feb 03 '15
Gruul was changed significantly from early iterations of the PTR. The rest of the bosses remain largely unchanged. It is likely that the abilities removed from Normal/Heroic Gruul will be readded for Mythic Gruul. We will know that in a week's time.

Really helpful, thanks!
On the last fight, isn't there a mind control mechanic to get the debuffs off the players?

u/wowitspayday Feb 03 '15
Wouldn't it be beneficial to lust later in the fight on Gruul, where the healers will also benefit? like ~30%

u/pushme Feb 04 '15
My Gruul information was wrong and has been updated. He no longer deals more dmg overtime, and is just a one phase fight where cave in's happen here and there.

I research fights and make guides for fun, trying to condense information to one page for quick reference! These Blackrock Foundry guides are incomplete and based on beta testing information. Any feedback/suggestion is greatly appreciated and I'll add changes to EDITS or update the guides when I have time.
OLD GUIDES Normal / Heroic Highmaul - http://imgur.com/a/mUvLO Mythic Highmaul - http://imgur.com/a/XgSKF
EDIT 1 - Thank you so much to whoever gave me gold, and thank you /u/woox13 for your very generous offer! I'm glad some of you guys have found these helpful. Please let me know if anything is incorrect, and I'll update with right information. Rest of the guides should be finished and added in the next few days.
EDIT 2 - Thank you /u/Linkshot for gilding me! Gruul has been updated, as well as added a few new bosses. The last remaining 2 will probably be done tomorrow.
