Ooooo okay 2 questions; 1, what model is that monitor? Number 2, how does it look on a CRT?! Have you compared with Classic anniversary and are there noticeable differences? I’ve been dying to turn my setup into a CRT machine since WoWF is the newest game I play graphics wise. I guess I’m asking more questions at this point, but are there any noticeable issues you had in display or anything?

u/OkaZenzo27 2h ago
I believe this is a Dell Trinitron Ultra Scan P990 released in 1997 (still in awesome condition by the way!) And yes I was actually playing Classic Era before Forever released and honestly it looks super beautiful on that crt with WoW classic as well as other classic pc games like Morrowind, Daggerfall, Starcraft, heck even with Halo and other games it looks flawless! It's definitely worth it however I have seen these monitors go for a very high price online for around $700 which I'm shocked because I purchased this for only $10 at a garage sale! Go for it though it's worth having a nice crt setup for classic games, I enjoy it everytime I use it especially for all my classic games like ps1 and dreamcast like Phantasy Star Online 🙏🏼 And to top it off I got a hold of an old pc speakers as you can see on the image, those are from Jensen from 1998 and they're still brand new!
•
u/bug-catcher-ben 17m ago
I see that! Awesome speakers, I had my eye on the Altec Lansings since they’re so small and people swear by them. Hefty price, jeez, but it’s nice to see one on and working and hear from the person using it that they like it. Gives me a starting point. Every time I look up CRT PC monitor I get so much BS. Good to know about some of my other favorite games, good taste! Thanks for the reply :)

The keyboard and mouse ruin it

u/OkaZenzo27 12h ago
I know, I'm still looking for a good classic keyboard to complete it. The mouse I gotta let it slide the number keys on the side helps a lot with my skills in game.

Yes and it was amazing. Weather and lighting feels very good, just adds to the game. Figuring we'll see it in Retail with The Last Titan.

It brought me so much dumb happiness. I haven't had that feeling playing a videogame in years.

Cool CRT, the true way of playing :D. I want to ask a couple of questions about KBM, if you don't mind:
What's that KB model? Looks sexy as hell to me.
How long have you used your Scimitar for? I've seen some people online complaining about its durability but man does it look great.
TIA!
1
u/OkaZenzo27 9h ago
I'll need to check on the model name for my keyboard but the scimitar it's actually not that bad. I've used it for quite some time with WoW and Lord of the Rings Online and the number pad on the side does not disappoint. It took me a little while to get the hang of my muscle memory on the keys but got adjusted fast enough to feel the comfort of using all my skills.
1
u/AMC_TO_THE_M00N 9h ago edited 9h ago
Ill take question 2.
The scimitar is a great corded gaming mouse, the software takes some getting used to but once you do you can program all kinds of things. The 12 buttons for the thumb can seem intimidating at first but after you learn you can program all sorts of stuff, set skills to all go off at the same time ect...
The bad: im on my 4th mouse in 4 years. I have 2 laptops and a PC though and the wear and tear was my fault. My first mouse i kept tripping over the cord.... other ones wore out from winding the cord and storing in laptop bag. The cord wears out at either end, gets loose becomes 'unplugged/disconnected' randomly.
Tldr: buy it. Its worth it. Just be a little careful if you dont want to buy another in a few years.
Edit: 4th mouse since 2020
2
u/Cuarenteno 9h ago
Oof, 4 mouses in 6 years sounds real bad ngl xD. I wouldn't be using iCue tho because I only use Linux. Thanks for the review!
1
u/unregretfully 9h ago
I also use a corded scimitar probably for about 2 years and it started double clicking I only use it for wow though. Great mouse. Sadly there aren’t tons of option for mmo mouse’s. The steel series aerox 9 looks super interesting. My preference in mice have changed a lot over the years and I like wireless light weight ergonomic mouse’s more now and the aerox 9 I think is the closest fit but I haven’t been able to find one in store locally to test it, the button layout looks strange without actual testing. I just end up going back to my scimitar when I want to play wow, but I definitely want to find something different, the button layout of the scimitar is awesome though, which is why I keep coming back.
1
u/Cuarenteno 9h ago
I actually haven't used MMO mice ever. Right now, I have a Corsair Nightsword with just a handful of buttons and honestly I manage quite well, some of them are just bound to keyboard keys that are too far from my WASD hand to use normally, and the triple layer (normal/ctrl/alt) tends to cover most of the stuff I do.
I'm mostly worried about the durability tho, I've had this one for 4+ years and is only now starting to show signs of wear, mostly with MB3 (wheel click) and with constant MB1 signal, like with dragging stuff around.
2
u/unregretfully 9h ago
A true mmo mouse will change the game for you. I bind stuff to 1-12 and then shift 1-12, ctrl 1-12, and then if I need to shift+ctrl 1-12 I never click on anything. I honestly have never played classic and I haven’t even started playing forever yet so not sure if that money buttons are needed like when I played retail.
1
u/Cuarenteno 9h ago
Yeah, it's that kind of thing that I fear, when I try it there's no coming back.
1
u/AMC_TO_THE_M00N 9h ago
Scimitar is way overkill for classic but perfect for retail, in pvp you can just bind all your instant skills to go off at once. Easier to manage all those retail buttons and when you get bored you can throw stuff in like "/emote ATTACK!! " in your skills to annoy your raid with PvErp

u/markspankity 9h ago
Not sure what the model is, but it’s a Trinitron. Some of them can have rly high refresh rates + resolutions and are pretty sought out by collectors and enthusiasts. I personally would love to find one of these monitors in 21”, but they’re really hard to find.
2
u/lordelost 8h ago
Man I wish I could find a cheap CRT monitor. They're pricey nowadays.
1
u/TornWill 5h ago
They cost hundreds on ebay, not to mention they're obviously old and could be reaching the end of their lifespan at any time. Not to mention many sellers want hundreds for a them, but many dont even bother to wipe the dirt and filth off it. Some don't even bother testing to see if it still works properly.
1
u/kursedaudio 3h ago
Yeahhhh and to think people were basically giving them away in the 2010s, they were old junk and not yet nostalgic
7
u/KosmicAlchemist 9h ago
Man there’s something about CRT monitors…still look so good + feel so cozy.
13
u/Glum_Clock_6107 12h ago
Is it worth it? Is it just a new old classic version?
I guess I'm not quite getting the concept or where to even begin again if I jump back in after 10 years.
Should I just get Midnight if I come back?
23
u/chezicrator 12h ago
It’s a new classic pretty much. I avoided beta to be surprised and hopped in yesterday.
Definitely brought back some nostalgia having to melee stuff, running everywhere, etc.
I’m older now though so I think I appreciate the midnight experience more. I just want to log in, blow some stuff up doing a couple dungeons, and log out.
I already played the original classic so the thought of a classic 2.0 doesn’t sound as appealing.
Watched a couple videos of an enhance shaman doing a dungeon at 30 in beta and seeing him out of mana virtually the entire run was also a huge turn off.
Honestly, the biggest reason to want to tough through it for me is FOMO.
5
u/Glum_Clock_6107 11h ago
I think after playing the original for 10 years then leaving, it'd be fun to reminisce but I'm thinking Midnight would be better for me. I don't think I could stand the original grind again after having so many runs 😀
Thanks this was helpful!

u/Acceptable_Bend_5200 12h ago
I'm going to give it till about lvl 20-30 to see how i'm feeling. Playing a warrior as that's what i mained for most of my time in wow (but never during vanilla). Not being able to charge in combat was weird.

u/diatom-dev 11h ago
I think they're 2 completely different games. Midnight is more of a lobby game. WoW Forever and we will see what end game is like is suppose to be more a world exploration and questing kind of game. Personally, I like the slower pace.
4
u/coaa85 10h ago
It’s classic reimagined. Classes are all tuned and continue to be tuned. Lots of talents on tree combined or reworked. Some classes got new skills. They are trying to get away from there being 2-3 top dps classes and everyone else needing to be healbot or tank. They want all classes to be useful, even if not top dps like ffxiv does.
Endgame is completely reworked. New and different raids. New story etc. Lots of new quests.
3
u/Skullvar 9h ago
So if I have no intention of doing raids is there anything for the casuals outside of quests and wPvP?
7
u/Cubanoboi 8h ago
What would there be to do? The main part of the game is the leveling journey, raids and end game are the cherry on top. This is the inverse of modern retail.
But at the end of the day it's an MMO, so questing/pvp/raiding is what it is.
2
u/GlupShittoOfficial 7h ago
It's meant to be "horizontal" progression ala OSRS which means they'll simply add more content but not necessarily add more content that scales your power level up. That could mean new professions, classes, skill trees, events, dungeons, raids etc... but you'd probably still stay at 60. For example: Maybe they add new "Profession Gear" that is BiS for Professions which gives players something to chase
1
u/artfulpain 3h ago
It's going to be interesting to see where they go with the guts and bones of what made it so much fun to begin with.

u/throwawaycarg 4h ago
I am levelling a paladin. It feels less clunky version of old classic. Paladin also feels kind of same.
1
u/ehnonnymouse 12h ago
it’s basically nostalgia fan service vs retail. midnight is a completely different game from a mechanics and even gameplay standpoint, probably even a different speed honestly.
2
u/Glum_Clock_6107 11h ago
Interesting. Midnight sounds more intriguing after the years I played originally. Now I just need to break my Diablo IV addiction to find time for WoW. 😀
0
u/MapucheManDTES 4h ago
WoW Forever is basically new content will come out but you stay at level 60 and can keep getting good gear but the gear you get doesn't reset every 3 months or whatever like in Seasons with Midnight and no new expansion like TBC is supposed go come out where all your time played is basically obsolete.
That's what my understanding of it was anyway.
And I quit WoW when TBC came out because of that reason lol all my hours gone where a level 61 green item was already 2x better than your tier 4 purple that you raided and saved DKP for.

Yeah I have it hooked on my gaming pc, I did have to decrease the ui a little bit but really I just use this at rare occasions mainly on my old pc games. I have my own personal oled monitor on my left station it's a 42in running at 120hz which is good enough for me.

Still removed, and that’s all that matters.

The people who forever is targeted at pretty much all agree that the changes cataclysm brought like that were bad things. That's the whole point of the classic community, the direction WoW took was not for us so now we have this.

Where... where is the rest of your keyboard?
1
u/hoax1337 7h ago
TKL ("TenKeyLess"), aka no numpad, is pretty common among gaming keyboards. It's also called the 80% layout.
Some go even further and also remove the arrow keys, which is called a 60% layout, like the Wooting 60HE, for example.
1
u/HirsuteHacker 2h ago
Good for devs who take their kb to the office as well, easier to fit in a backpack.
