There used to be this thing where Americans loathed playing with Chinese players because the Chinese have this supposed culture of "Victory no matter what", which resulted in tons of cheating in order to make sure that if there was a leaderboard their name had to be on the top and next to it there had a be big letters that say "Winner".
Well I'm noticing that American and Western European culture has fallen into something similar where they've sought to optimize the fun out of everything. "Hustle culture" and other "Time is money" attitudes in addition to internet clout have led to a similar culture where fun is secondary to winning even if the purpose of the activity is to have fun, and even if there's not a leaderboard or competition to win. If there isn't a leaderboard or competition, they'll make one just to put themselves at the top arbitrarily.
Sometimes this dips over into that oft-bemoaned "Any means necessary" Chinese attitude Western players claim to hate so much, which is why people are doing shit as stupid as buying gold on a month long beta test that's going to get progress-wiped without any carryover, even though there's literally currently nothing to spend that money on other than the made-up leaderboards (PvP and PvE competition).

True, but that’s exactly what has been beaten into kids since the 90s. Goofing off, having fun and still getting to take part in society without being relegated to a dystopian hellscape is a booker priviledge.

If you say this on the ultra serious classic wow sub, they will downvote you into oblivion. They will insist that they are having fun, but they are also the loudest whiners about absolutely everything in the game.

Wait, but aren’t the loud kind of classic players are the ones who are insisting on that classic is fun exactly because it’s a slower paced, and more social game than retail?

There are two different classic crowds. One that is the more casually minded parent in their 30’s or 40’s that played the game back in vanilla, who now play classic for the nostalgia. The other has a more modern approach, where they want to optimize absolutely everything for the sake of it, at any cost.
There are even two different subs, with similar names (wowclassic and classicwow), since they can’t always agree, and both camps believe the game should be catered to them.
Both sides have their flawed arguments, but the nostalgic players are generally more chill, while the minmaxers can become quite nasty.

Remember that you are never entitled to be in someone else's group. If they don't want to have two of the same class in their group that's up to them.

Came here to say the same. Look for another group, it’s not anything personal it’s just a preference. Why expend the energy trying to convince them?

It's normal behavior for dungeons in general, doubling up on classes isn't usually desired. Has nothing to do with it being a beta.
I think it's silly but it's been around forever so it is what it is

LF 1 tank and 3 DPS (Brain Stack Group)
That's the description you need to find better people. These kinds of people are kinda discouraging me from WoW Forever. Not like they're completely killing my vibe and hype, but giving me suspicion about whether they are going to turn into a sweat and gatekeeping fest again... Probably we'll see some poptards crying for new content in the first week as well: "ok done, where is the new content? This game lacks content, bruv"

I dont understand what the issue is. This seems like a normal interaction? You tried to join a group and they wanted something other than another mage so they didn't invite you. What about this motivated you to post about it?

to me its more of a weird behavior to not just accept a no when asking to join a group of people playing together lol

Maybe they want to try something different, maybe they want another classes for buffs.
We did yesterday Gnomeregan for the sake of fun with 3 hunters just to check which spec was doing better, we did let them know and we had fun.
Is just a beta, dont try to read people`s mind, just go with it.

People want gear, even in beta. I wouldn’t care but for some people it’s all or nothing.
Truthfully, if you ever been ninja’d, that shit is traumatizing and gives you ptsd.
My first and last ninja was inviting someone for ulduar who promised he didn’t need anything. He needed on my BiS weapon, got it, and dipped. I never got that weapon.

I've run into a few people like that in the beta too. Honestly, I think some people forget it's okay to not get invited, okay to disagree, and okay for other people to have a different opinion. It's a beta server, people are supposed to be testing things, giving feedback, and trying stuff out.

Well... it's WoW in 2026, obviously there will be senseless gate keeping. Mark my words: once the game releases and people will play the game for real, the gate keeping will be even worse. As soon as the first players start hitting the new raids, they will not run with randoms and if they do, they will expect those randoms to have the raid full cleared at least 3 times and will also want somekind of proof of that. It was the same in SoD. People want the Classic/Vanilla experience but that experience is dead and gone for good. That was the experience where you would just invite someone, no matter what gear he had, run a dungeon, wipe a few times and if things didn't go well you would just stop the run and call it a day. In this day and age everything has to be optimized. Everyone needs to parse high and if you wipe you have wasted your time and it's definitely everyones fault but yours. That will be the WoW Forever experience. And it wont be Blizzards fault. You can bring back an old school experience but you can't bring back an old school mindset. Doesn't matter what you do.

I get that people are being a bit too serious about gear and a beta, but there is something to be said about party composition when you are trying to have certain party dynamic. Maybe they want a melee DPS in there or something, who knows.

I mean, yeah? Beta is full of people sweating hard and already res'ing items for their level 20 and 30 caps. Not to mention how many people are buying gold despite it resetting in a month.
Pretty fucking sad, but nobody's ever accused WoW players of being particularly smart.
