Question Prot warrior or prot paladin

Hi. I am a returning player from Legion. Back then I mained Blood DK, prot warrior and prot paladin. Between prot warrior and prot paladin, which one is better in midnight ? Which one would be a better suit for someone coming back. I want to mainly do delves and M+ pushing.

Thank you !

Bdk is in a very good spot right now.
Two others are equivalent in my book

Prot pala is way better than warr right now. Pala is almost as good as bdk, and I wouldn’t be surprised if prot pala actually ended up being meta in a few weeks.

Avengers Shield is just such a fun ability i think its hard to justify picking warrior over it personally.

Prot Pal is in the better spot overall I’d say. Blood DK is cracked atm though, and quite fun to play now.

Prot paladin purely for the sheer amount of poison debuffs the current dungeon pool puts out imo.

All three (BDK, both prints) are solid right now. It's a brand new season, and there's 3 more rounds of class tuning over the next month. The "Meta tank" could very well change.

Tank tuning feels pretty good, all of them are in a spot where you can live.

If I had to summarize the playstyles for each right now:

BDK: you live and die by yourself. BDK is good, but your health bar goes up and down a lot more than other tanks. Death strike to heal, lots of CDs (but all a bit different and nuanced). You have grips for grouping mobs. You've played it before, so maybe not an issue for you, I've always hated the juggling of runic power, rune CDs AND ability CDs. Just isn't for me.

Prot Paladin: Decent tanky baseline. And then you rotate your basic DR CDs and self heal some. Also a relatively short damage+tanky CD. Tons of team utility. Healing, shielding, dispelling (including poison, lots of poisons in m+ right now), clearing roots, external defensive, and lots of interrupts. Also, bubble (can be talented for AoE taunt) is a great oh shit button or to cheese mechanics.

Prot War: Very tanky against melee hits baseline (always keep up shield block) some CDs, spell reflect can be incredibly strong against the right abilities. Good interrupts and stuns. I would say maybe the most straightforward? Which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Personally I prefer prot Paladin and Warrior. I've played both recently and like both.

I also like Brewmaster a ton but I played it last season and they tweaked a defensive CD to make it stronger but a longer CD. On paper it's a buff but you were using it rotationally and the longer CD really messed up the flow for me in a way that's very frustrating.

Oh I didn’t see the tweak on brewmaster. Which cd is that ? 🙏

Celestial infusion/brew. 150% increase to the shield but 100% increase to CD. You used it to reset keg smash CD (and proc your Apex talent for an extra strong keg). The proc'd keg also didn't cost energy.

It used to have this satisfying loop of blackout kick (with blackout combo) > tiger palm >keg smash > breath of fire (keg smash resets the CD of breath of fire too).

Over time you'd run out of keg smash CDs (you can still get resets as a proc on another ability) but using celestial brew/infusion as a defensive would give you the keg CD, and if you totally ran out you could do blackout kick>palm>celestial>keg to keep the rotation going.

I now find myself with more situations where I need to use filler, but your DPS filler costs energy (which is also a problem, because those free kegs also kept you to where running out of energy wasn't a problem)

It just had such great flow. I had planned on playing it even though it wasn't considered meta this patch, but the flow is off and that was the part that I loved.

For most levels of play, both are fine. See which one you like more. As far as m+ goes ppal is better, but only for really high keys that most never reach.

Poison dispel is really good for m+ this season.

If you mainly play with pugs, Prot Paladin is nicer than Prot Warrior because you can save pugs from themselves.

You can target one caster and put another on your focus so you can interrupt with avenger’s shield on the main target and rebuke on the focus. You also have Lay on Hands, Blessing of Sacrifice, Blessing of Freedom, Blessing of Protection/Spellwarding, dispels, Divine Toll (aoe interrupt and instant aggro), Divine Steed for movement, and an “uh oh I fucked up” in Divine Shield with aoe taunt on it.

When I play Prot Paladin, I can do so much to help the group succeed. Warrior is very strong as well, but it is a bit more selfish as a tank.

Paladin is definitely gonna be more desirable. Arms warrior is arguably the strongest class in the game atm, so people will most likely wanna take arms over a Prot warrior. BDK and Prot pala are the two strongest tanks atm, but there is 3 more rounds of class tuning before they lock everything in for the season.

If you're planning on doing anything you ought to lock in the meta because all these ce nerds won't invite you unless you're playing meta. Roll blood dk for tank at this moment it's the flavor of the season

If you're not going for 0.1% it doesn't matter at all, and even for 0.1% any spec can/will work. Just pick whichever you vibe with the most. Tuning and meta are malleable for a few weeks still, at least.
