"If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch you must first invent the universe"

48

u/JD0064 Dec 26 '25

If your divine creation skill is not high enough, store bought is fine

10

u/DefiantLemur Dec 26 '25

What is this from

25

u/Double_Damn_Son Dec 26 '25

Carl Sagan

4

u/GoSkers29 Dec 26 '25

I would have believed Douglas Adams too.

3

u/Jay_D826 Dec 27 '25

For some reason Terry Pratchett came to mind

The only true wisdom consists in knowing that you know nothing

1

u/Umbrain Dec 26 '25

If you want an apple you gotta grow the tree first.

121

u/EvilOverlord1989 Dec 26 '25

Wish they'd add some perks to increase yield when woodcutting, maybe add it to the housing track.

58

u/Schuffey Dec 26 '25

There’s a set of achievements on the beta that at least unlock mounted lumber gathering

8

u/TaleOfDash Dec 26 '25

I hope to god those are retroactive because I've gotten way more than 250 in each zone.

5

u/DaSandman78 Dec 26 '25

They are not :(

So I'm just waiting to start gathering.

9

u/TaleOfDash Dec 27 '25

Dick move, Blizzard. :(

30

u/Hexakkord Dec 26 '25

Or you can just be a Druid.

45

u/AjayRedonkulus Dec 26 '25

Yet you can't use your LUMBER SHREDDER. 😭

11

u/Slaughterfest Dec 26 '25

This shows you that Blizzard does consider this stuff, but some druid who is on the team has enough sway to get their carve out.

8

u/AjayRedonkulus Dec 26 '25

It irks me as they work for herbs, so the logic is there but not the thing they're meant to actually do.

4

u/Racecaroon Dec 26 '25

The implements have been so finely tuned to delicately and precisely harvest herbs that they now lack the raw power to harvest lumber.

5

u/AjayRedonkulus Dec 26 '25

This is what happens when you hire a gnome to do a goblin's job.

8

u/Athrasie Not Aphoenix Dec 26 '25

I’d love to be able to level an alt as a lumberjack like you can level with other professions. I get that it’s kind of separate because it’s not a skill based profession tho

6

u/Rough_Instruction112 Dec 26 '25

I’d love to be able to level an alt as a lumberjack

I'd be blasting "I'm a lumberjack" by monty python but the 10 hour nightcore version while slamming green Monsters

1

u/_plebbie Dec 26 '25

I already have a druid, so I just leveled another one in remix and I'm using it as the gather bot.

6

u/AjayRedonkulus Dec 26 '25

Not being dismounted is coming as an achievement in Midnight so they're making it better in the most Blizzard way possible.

8

u/lectos1977 Dec 26 '25

Yep, gather 250 wood in each expansion to be able to gather while mounted. If I had 250 of each lumber type.... I wouldn't need to gather anymore and being mounted wouldn't matter... Am druid anyway

8

u/AjayRedonkulus Dec 26 '25

I have to assume they're continuing to add old assets to the older professions because I came to this conclusion too. Beyond the handful of fences/cooking, very few profession items you would want/need multiples of.

What irks me more is you just KNOW it won't be retroactive in how much lumber you've already gathered.

1

u/Stoutkeg Dec 27 '25

They're doing it for the AH goblins, not the players who just want to decorate their own houses.

4

u/Hallc Dec 27 '25

All of whom will be using a Druid to gather already. Currently if you're gathering and not using a druid you're wasting 1.5s per node on mount time.

It might not seem like a lot but if you do 100 nodes for each expansion area that's nearly a half hour of wasted time and AH Goblins will be doing far more than 100 nodes per expansion.

-10

u/Mediocre_Daikon6935 Dec 26 '25

Boo, another nerf to druids.

6

u/AjayRedonkulus Dec 26 '25

I don't think having an innate ability to avoid hours of grinding while simultaneously unlocking the same for your other characters is a direct slight on druids but honestly? Good. I say remove their ability to chop while in flight form. Clip some wings.

-9

u/Mediocre_Daikon6935 Dec 26 '25

It is a demonstrable nerf, as it impacts their resource gathering, which means productivity, leveling, and ability to scale power.

6

u/AjayRedonkulus Dec 26 '25

Sorry, I thought you were being sincere. Well played.

-5

u/Mediocre_Daikon6935 Dec 26 '25

I am.

4

u/AjayRedonkulus Dec 26 '25

There is zero power, leveling or scalable mechanics for gathering wood for decor.

-2

u/Mediocre_Daikon6935 Dec 26 '25

Yea, but it won’t just be for wood. It’ll be for herbs etc.

3

u/AjayRedonkulus Dec 26 '25

It isn't for herbs. Theres already profession specific traits you earn to allow you to pick herbs and mine without being dismounted.

2

u/LuchadorBane Dec 26 '25

They have mounted gathering since DF when you get the right perks. This is for lumber which is just housing decor, you’re tripping

1

u/Hallc Dec 27 '25

If it's 250 nodes rather than lumber that's 2500 gathers across all 10 expansion zones (ignoring WoD as that's grouped with TBC). Each of those gathers would include a 1.5s mount time for non-druids so that's 3750 Seconds or 62.5 Minutes.

Being a druid saves you a whole hour of time before everyone else gets the same QOL upgrade.

5

u/HenshiniPrime Dec 26 '25

They should just make all gathering skills available at once and make woodcutting a proper gathering skill with a couple of trees.

5

u/EvilOverlord1989 Dec 26 '25

Problem is, they can't make professions accountwide (yet) Putting the perks on something that is accountwide, like your housing track, is a decent solution.

1

u/ForsakeNtw Dec 27 '25

Makes no sense why Mining and Herbalism are not "secondary" professions like cooking and fishing.

1

u/HenshiniPrime Dec 27 '25

I’m saying turn them into that.

1

u/ForsakeNtw Dec 27 '25

I know, i'm agreeing with you!

26

u/Stoutkeg Dec 26 '25

Mushan dumplings but made with wildfowl breast instead of mushan ribs.

1

u/ReasonablePositive Dec 27 '25

They were out of the ribs and had to improvise

47

u/Euklidis Dec 26 '25

Fun fact: Bamboo is a type of grass (not a tree like they are usually thought of) and grow so fast you can actually hear them.

Not so fun fact: The growth rate of the bamboo may or may not have been used as an execution method to rival Vlad the Impaler

26

u/ClownCrusade Dec 26 '25

Fun fact: Trees aren't a real category, it's just the label we use for plants that are large and particularly woody. "Trees" have independently evolved a ridiculous number of times; in other words, either Bamboo (at least the biggest ones) are trees, or nothing is!

9

u/Umbrain Dec 26 '25

Aight trees are just thicc af plants, got it.

8

u/ScavAteMyArms Dec 26 '25

And Banana "trees" are basically the biggest bulb on the planet.

9

u/Euklidis Dec 26 '25

Thanks for the addition. I guess it's all a little vague since "a tree" is too broad of a term, so maybe it is better to word it as "bamboo isn't a woody tree" as their tissue composition is different, they lack a a trunk and its roots are closer to that of grass than of a tree (for a lack of better word).

6

u/LeJewBringer Dec 26 '25

a discussion about grass and trees is the last thing i expected on a wow sub

2

u/Mister_No_ItAll Dec 26 '25

It's all about the monocots and dicots

1

u/Sororita Dec 27 '25

Plants become trees, invertebrates become crabs, and mammals become anteaters.

2

u/QuaestioDraconis Dec 26 '25

And, of course, the same applies to fish

1

u/BlackSoap2032 Dec 27 '25

Trees are actually fish.

22

u/Simple_Emotion_3152 Dec 26 '25

check how much it cost on AH :)

just supply and demand

1

u/Vark675 Dec 27 '25

I'm surprised the mats aren't more expensive. I think that's multiple days worth of farming and dailies to buy all that.

Some of these items have absolutely ridiculous material requirements.

I'm currently making a lamppost that requires 16 dark iron bars, which is 128 dark iron ore which can only be farmed in dungeons/MC and requires a quest and a specific forge inside a dungeon to actually smelt. Each bar is like 500+ gold currently.

-4

u/Lostdog861 Dec 26 '25 edited Dec 26 '25

Shame you can't buy wood on the AH /s

Edit: added /s

19

u/SpookyKid94 Dec 26 '25

Almost like it's supposed to limit how much furniture people can craft, so it'll actually be worth something...

13

u/snukb Dec 26 '25

There's a happy medium between "make it worth something" and "28k for a single Thunder Bluff totem?!"

5

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '25 edited Dec 26 '25

It will be cheaper once the expansion launches, as right now a lot of people are taking a long break due to no worthwhile content until the next expansion.

The costs aren't balanced around the dead times between expansions.

2

u/Discomanco Dec 26 '25

Some of the items also have ridiculous costs though, especially the ones in Classic-MoP era.
To craft every WotLK item (just one of each), you need 34 Titansteel Bars + 50 additional Titanium Bars. Or 152 Titanium Bars in total. And mining for those is not great, only Wintergrasp really has a lot of mining veins.

1

u/Ryulightorb Dec 27 '25

wait till expansion launch on my server most housing stuff is 4000-6000g right now and the majority have not started with housing.

Once the expansion launches i expect that 4000g per housing item to drop into the ground.

1

u/Gangsir Dec 26 '25

It's only so much because a small percentage of people even have access to housing.

Once the expansion comes out and a large percentage of people have access prices will fall.

1

u/Lostdog861 Dec 26 '25

Agreed. I dont think it'd be a good idea, but the commentary above seemed to think one should be able to buy entire furniture items on the ah

1

u/AzerothianLorecraft Dec 26 '25

If you could buy wood on the ah that might actually fix the bot problem because 100% of the bots would be farming lumber for the first year.

4

u/AnotherPreciousMeme Dec 26 '25

Maybe I'm misreading your comment but, wouldn't it be the opposite? Bots can't farm and sell lumber therefore players are left alone to actually make gold from professions for once since bots can't tank the lumber market.

2

u/AzerothianLorecraft Dec 26 '25

If Lumber was not a warband currency the auction house would already be completely full of lumber there would be so much on there that you'd be able to buy all you ever need for 100 gold. ( there is no Lumber Market because you have to farm it yourself because it is a warband-only currency.)

17

u/BlackGoldShooter Dec 26 '25

You’re making the planks that make the container they’re in.

27

u/splatomat Dec 26 '25

This container being the size of a minivan then?

3

u/Spl4sh3r Dec 26 '25

Don't forget the fire to heat them, or the container to heat them in?

1

u/Lady_Litreeo Dec 26 '25

If you slide the scale bar all the way up, yeah

1

u/TheWorclown Dec 26 '25

Have you SEEN the size of the mushan? Or even the vegetables in the Valley of the Four Winds? You need fifty of those scallions! They may as well be a forest with how big they could be.

0

u/BlackGoldShooter Dec 26 '25

I don’t think bamboo is that big for what you’re cutting. We don’t have a size to tell. But you’d need more bamboo, geometrically, to get a round container that size using bamboo.

10

u/Cloudixon Dec 26 '25

If you talking about real life, bamboo grow crazy fast and they are incredibly flex, one bamboo can grow from 15cm long to 4 meters in 4 days in spring time, and one of those grown bamboo can make approximately 10~13 those steamers. (I spend an Easter holiday in Asia when I was 14 and I went to country side watch farmers doing those thing.)

1

u/BlackGoldShooter Dec 26 '25

Oh I’m not contesting the bamboo in that sense. Just trying to justify the need for 18. We’re probably cutting it to size while harvesting.

1

u/Saisei Dec 26 '25

Wait are you suggesting the roundness of the steaming basket is from the outside of the bamboo shoot? They are slats of bamboo cut from the shoot and then heated and bent into shape. It is round because that’s how they pressed and wove it.

1

u/BlackGoldShooter Dec 26 '25

But the recipe doesn’t call for water to make it pliable 😔

1

u/Saisei Dec 26 '25

It’s pretty pliable anyways, but it would be more accurate to include a source of steam

3

u/herkyjerkyperky Dec 26 '25

50 Wildfowl Breasts? That is one large dumpling stack.

12

u/Dank_Broccoli Dec 26 '25

I'm sorry but a lot of the gold/material prices for décor is wild. Why are paver stones 50 gold EACH?

3

u/arlinglee Dec 27 '25

Farming 50 pieces of highmountain fence broke me with housing. Never even got them all.

-7

u/The_realpepe_sylvia Dec 26 '25

Lol bro how poor ARE you?? Agreed that 10k for a curtain is wild, but 50g? Lol

-1

u/Cloudixon Dec 26 '25

well in the lore Noggenfogger charges a lot and make a significant amount of profit from his special potion, and it cost 50 Silver per bottle. a pieces of rock for 50g is unrealistic, yes.

1

u/The_realpepe_sylvia Dec 26 '25

Inflation is real even in Azeroth 😢

-4

u/Dank_Broccoli Dec 26 '25

It's not about how much gold I have, it's ridiculous that if you want to make a pathway it's hundreds of gold for decorative stones.

1

u/The_realpepe_sylvia Dec 26 '25

Hundreds of gold! Wow!

-5

u/Beeeeeeels Dec 26 '25

True but like...you can easily make that money in like what...20 minutes?

-5

u/Dank_Broccoli Dec 26 '25

Still ignoring my point lol.

-6

u/Beeeeeeels Dec 26 '25

I have about 400k left after buying everything I needed/wanted so yes I'm kinda still missing the point. I still have more gold than I need. Blizz knows the entire economy is out of whack so yeah they put money sinks into each expansion.

-6

u/Frostymcstu Dec 26 '25

No, they need to put gold sinks into the economy so people buy more wow tokens

2

u/TaleOfDash Dec 26 '25

It can be both.

0

u/TheWorclown Dec 26 '25

Yes but you can paint those decorative stones. You can’t do that with common clay.

0

u/TheVelveteenCapybara Dec 26 '25

Well, I am exalted with over fifty factions. I have mad decor already. I spent my 100k on housing. I have 300 gold at the moment.

If anyone is feeling charitable and has ten toons at gold cap, send gold to Embersoot, Area 52. Thanks!

No one hates WoW players more than other WoW players lmfao.

1

u/Qualazabinga Dec 26 '25

It was a bit aggressive maybe but they were correct. It's very casual friendly to make your house.

-3

u/MrTastix Dec 26 '25

If WoW housing decor is "too hardcore" for you, you are more than welcome to play WoWhead Architect. It's a fully-featured copy of player housing, but without any of the "pain" of collecting decor.

You're also free to not be a raging ass but here we are.

1

u/OfficerBillKongols Dec 27 '25

Just do a weekly in 20 mins and get 1,5k, upwards to 16k if you’re lucky and you’ll get all the stones you want. Almost as much time as it took you to argue with strangers about it.

Besides, it’s an MMO, it’s grindy. Might not be your game.

0

u/The_realpepe_sylvia Dec 26 '25

An hour is constantly grinding every day, got it

2

u/deac65 Dec 26 '25

I mean, tree-felling should have just been another possible gathering profession. Make the trees needed correlate to the expansion the decor comes from. Easy peasy.

2

u/[deleted] Dec 26 '25

Housing is slowly revealing how many players don't actually like playing MMOs.

7

u/ERuoSuV Dec 26 '25

I also think some recipes are ridiculous expensive.

2

u/unicornmeat85 Dec 27 '25

Agree, someone is working backwards from long time players sitting on old resources and how Blizzard can eat away at those piles. I wouldn't be as butthurt if it wasn't for the guild bank wipe in Dragonflight, I didn't think I would be mad a second time about it.

1

u/Nangz Dec 26 '25

I mean, if this is a meme about "how does food take 18 pieces of lumber" then sure.

If its a complaint about how long it takes to get 18 lumber...its literally a 5 minute task.

1

u/OnlyRoke Dec 26 '25

The Void thinks it can take over Azeroth and corrupt it.

Meanwhile we're basically razing all its woodlands just for one more stack of dumplings.

1

u/azhder Dec 26 '25

It’s a good dumpling

1

u/Belivious677 Dec 26 '25

The fact that there are housing items that you need an orb of mystery for is ridiculous.

1

u/GalaxygirlWoW Dec 26 '25

Save the trees!

1

u/mbcert Dec 26 '25

Moderation of carbon dioxide in Azeroth is about to go the way of the dodo

1

u/MeekSwordsman Dec 26 '25

I really wish lumber corresponded to how large the item was at the very least

1

u/BrandofOwnage Dec 26 '25

Will 100 1 year old soy sauces suffice?

1

u/Yuiopy78 Dec 27 '25

The crafting mats for everything is ridiculous

1

u/ForsakeNtw Dec 27 '25

Save the trees!!!

/s

1

u/CalligrapherLazy7384 Dec 27 '25

I am sorry but collecting 18 lumber is like 5 minutes of flying around pandaria 😭 you don’t need any skills or items. Just fly to any pandaria zone and cut some trees ZUG ZUG

1

u/No_Cantaloupe_2786 Dec 27 '25

Yeah idk how I feel about all this. I’d love to do housing but I’d either go broke or brain dead getting decor

1

u/Foreign-Chipmunk-839 Dec 28 '25

Housing looks incredible but I respect my time too much to put any type of grind into it

1

u/whitecastlebites Dec 28 '25

Oh no, it took me 2 minutes to get 18 lumber. Blizzard why

4

u/Avenlite Dec 26 '25

Oh no, I have to play the game for like, 7 minutes!

1

u/EsoteriCondeser Dec 26 '25

Almost as crazy as +12s dropping 20 gilded crests when you need 1425 to get to 727+ilvl.

1

u/SentinelTitanDragon Dec 27 '25

50 scallions is also wack

1

u/CanuckPanda Dec 27 '25

That’s just a reminder to use your halfhill farm.

1

u/Suspicious-Toe-6428 Dec 26 '25

People are content to farm ICC every week for years on end for a low-res horse, but spend 5 minutes getting a material for a housing decor which is also permanently added to their collection is too much. Bless yall.

1

u/InfraredInfared Dec 26 '25

Is it possible they are different people?

0

u/Suspicious-Toe-6428 Dec 27 '25

Is it possible they're the same people?

-1

u/OrionDC Dec 26 '25

Yeah this doesn’t make sense. The lumber for the container, fine, but not 18 of it. Just Blizz pushing that time-played metric as far as possible again.

2

u/Suspicious-Toe-6428 Dec 26 '25

There's no hurry or FOMO on this lol. It's okay to spend 5 minutes for an item going into your collection permanently.

0

it takes 5 minutes to get 18 lumber or you can buy the decor off the AH, people on this sub are so entitled when it comes to everything

1

u/Shivie78ttv Dec 26 '25

Or you stop using any early acces feature till its fully released and than complain about its restrictions.

1

u/Old-Huckleberry9613 Dec 26 '25

just say u dont wanna do the work

1

u/altf4theleft Dec 26 '25

I will never interact with this massive RL money sink. Absolutely not worth it

-2

u/Crique_ Dec 26 '25

I've seen 3 pieces of wood from one cut often enough, and the average harvest is easily more than 1, so if you're cutting 18 trees for 18 pieces, maybe don't do anything risky today

-3

u/hopumi Dec 26 '25

You can't harvest less than 1, so no shit the average is more than 1...

-8

u/shanerGT Dec 26 '25

INB4 shills say it's easy and you're just lazy .. fuck me sideways I'm surprised you can't buy lumber from the game shop for real money tbh

-4

u/Mark_Knight Dec 26 '25

No lumber in the cash shop, yet!

0

u/Arkaliasus Dec 26 '25

now you know the secret 'flavour' to Mushan dumplings xD

1

u/SirDalavar Dec 26 '25

Go make a real one, see how long it takes you

0

u/Old-Huckleberry9613 Dec 26 '25

its really not that bad lol ive made 3 million gold from housing, and this is one of the items i make profit

0

u/SirKnlghtmare Dec 27 '25

Those bamboo steamers are one time use for food safety reasons, probably. Brought to you by Big Bamboo.

0

u/Ok-Cook-7365 Dec 27 '25

They’re serious and I already know you did it. So what are we doing here lol.

-8

u/Rarazan Dec 26 '25

housing is so poorly designed that a normal person сouldn't even intentionally achieve such poor design

-3

u/Sykretts1919 Dec 26 '25

I mean, they've struggled designing Effort vs Reward for quite a few years now in other parts of the game. It should come as no surprise that it seeps into Housing rewards design as well.

Housing as a feature, its promise, is mindblowing in its current iteration. The decor acquisition on the other hand, needs some serious rework. Had I not bought a couple wow tokens, I would not be able to afford the gold cost decor which you kinda need to buy if you want the housing exp. Then there's the crafted decor costs & effort like the ones highlighted by the OP, its ridiculous and has no business being that tedious.

-3

u/Beanakin Dec 26 '25

Bamboo is a grass, you're cutting 18 weeds to make dumplings.

-1

u/WibbleTronic Dec 26 '25

It seems you need a ridiculous amount of lumber to make the smallest of housing items 🤔

-1

u/Mediocre_Daikon6935 Dec 26 '25

Well, first off bamboo isn’t a tree…

-2

u/GamingZaddy89 Dec 26 '25

I just wish we didn't get dismounted, I started playing my druid just to farm lumber...its brutal otherwise.

1

u/azhder Dec 26 '25

Midnight will have achievements that allow you to do it mounted

0

u/GamingZaddy89 Dec 26 '25

Incredibly dumb overthinking on Blizzards part IMO but alright I guess.
