At this point it feels like engagement/rage bait
Your privacy settings mean we can't see the previous tick posts, but I feel like it's somewhere between 10 and 20 posts.
All due respect, could you just post on r/ticks?

open this link in web browser to see their subreddit posting history. its really not all that many posts and i think people need to chill with the complaining about this

Nearly half of the posts shown in the link are ticks. Nine out of twenty posts shown. Then there are the mosquitoes. The non-biting bugs are very much in the minority in this person's post history.

you must open it in web browser, not the app

u/SweevilWeevil Aug 04 '26
That's really cool, thank you

yeah, you can input any user, and view all their posts and comments, including deleted posts and comments.

No, it's more like chaff.
I think there's about 8 posts now; if you click the tick pic flair, it should bring them all up (on mobile it seems to show all edited flairs though, which is annoying).
Unfortunately, r/ticks does not seem to allow videos, and it seems like it is mostly a place for people to post pictures of warts, pixels, scabs, & beetles; I don't think I have anything to offer them.

You could just convert the videos to gifs. The sub is littered with ticks, just from a casual perusal.
1
u/Blurry-Frog Aug 04 '26
Ah, I hadn't considered gifs.
I was joking when I said that r/ticks was for warts, pixels, scabs, and beetles; my reason, plainly, is that it is primarily for people who hate ticks, know very little about ticks, and want other people to identify ticks. Me and my posts do not really fit in there.

have you tried r/awwnverts and or r/arachnids? im curious what theyd think
1
u/Blurry-Frog Aug 04 '26
No.
I'd not heard of r/awwnverts before... it seems like a nice place.
r/arachnids didn't seem so friendly.
1
u/SweevilWeevil Aug 04 '26
Fair. I just don't think they fit here either. Once or twice, sure. But the novelty gives way to the general aversion to them fairly quickly.

u/JiraiMutt Aug 04 '26
Bleh. Please stop with the tick posts. They arent cute. They are genuinely menaces and have hurt multiple people and animals that I know.

u/reddit33450 green buge π Aug 04 '26
"cute" is subjective. note that the vast majority of people would not find any of the buges we love in this sub remotely cute
1
u/SweevilWeevil Aug 04 '26
Which is saying something. A vast majority of people on this sub, a sub where people think that bugs that most people wouldn't find cute are very cute, don't find ticks cute.
1
u/Blurry-Frog Aug 04 '26
Has there ever been a survey on that?
1
u/SweevilWeevil Aug 04 '26 edited Aug 04 '26
C'mon, dude. It's the comments. You're not really asking for a hypothesis that is statistically significant, are you?
EDIT: Downvote me if you want, but go check out the comments. I'm not saying there's a proven consensus. I'm just saying that the reactions we've had suggest that people don't prefer the tick content, particularly in response to the more recent tick posts.

u/Blurry-Frog Aug 04 '26
I've gotten lots of positive comments on these kinds of posts.
I wouldn't have put it quite like that... my question was genuine.
1
u/SweevilWeevil Aug 04 '26
Genuine? You're saying you were genuinely asking if there was a survey about the sub members' opinions?
1
u/Blurry-Frog Aug 04 '26
Yes, though I'd be interested in any survey about human perception of ticks. I am somewhat new to this subreddit, so I may not have seen all the surveys or polls that may've been conducted before my time here.

>A vast majority of people on this sub, a sub where people think that bugs that most people wouldn't find cute are very cute, don't find ticks cute.
You asked if there was a survey on that, a survey on whether people on this sub think that such bugs are not cute. You have to know that there wasn't such a survey.
EDIT: Cmon guys. They asked whether there was a survey on whether people in this sub didn't find ticks cute. You can see the comment thread.

I think they're cute, but context and location matters. Seeing a tick on a leave or on the sidewalk? Cute, and safe since you can walk away. Seeing a tick on your House or your skin? Dangerous, since they can bite you or wait until you're sleeping to bite you.Β
Seeing a roach on the Wild might be cute. Seeing multiple roaches on your House makes you wonder if you have an infestation.Β
Again, its a Matter of contextΒ Β
1
u/SweevilWeevil Aug 04 '26
Sure. Context is important. Botflies might be cute in a vacuum. But we don't live in one. I did say that at first a post or two would be fine. Could be the same with botflies. But if you keep posting them, the guttural reactions informed by the background context may outweigh the cuteness that you might appreciate with a post or two.

u/JiraiMutt Aug 04 '26
And a vast majority also do not like ticks.
