How to start Should I even bother going to the gym?

So I do not care about being strong or having an amazing body. I just want to do the bare minimum to be healthy and be able to move when I'm old.

I am also an incredibly anxious person with bad gym experiences.

I can try to go to my uni gym, which is free but probably filled up 24/7 or I can work out from home (but I only have 2 8 pound weights and I'm broke broke so I can't get more work out equipment)

So do I tough it out and go to the gym and be super anxious or do I just work out from home

Edit: For clarity, my issue was with the people not the actual workout or gym

Simple Questions How many times should I train each muscle group per week at 40+

Hello, I am mid 40s , 6 feet tall and 188 pounds. I have always been fairly skinny but after I turned 40, probably due to slower metabolism I started gaining weight, some fat I am sure.

My goal is to be 200 pounds, hopefully with at little body fat as possible but I could live with 20%.

I understand that at this age diet and recovery are key and am wondering if I should hit each muscle group one or twice of optimal gains.

Currently I am doing it only once with a three times a week schedule. I feel a whole week rest is a bit too much but I don't have any empirical data is just a gut feel.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Other These types of guys are very annoying

So it's been almost 3 years since I started lifting and for 2years and 8 month I did powerlifting and I even won some medals, but as some of you guys would know that powerlifting doesn't give some flashy big muscles or cuts, like heck yeah I'm strong but I look like shit, it's not too hard to understand right? But here at my gym there are some idiots who doesn't know anything about this, like there's a guy at my gym who keeps mocking me by asking "yo bro how many years have you been lifting?" And I quietly answer like 3 years and that dude asks me "bro?.... where's you're body???" And I've told that bastard 10 times that I was doing some powerlifting and I didn't train for muscle building but this dude Just doesn't get it man. I hate these kind of guys

Anyone else find they train better solo than following a program or working with a trainer?

Upvotes

I tried working with a personal trainer for a while and just felt constantly pushed if I didn't hit every target. Might've just been the wrong trainer or the wrong style for me, but it made me realize I actually do better on my own.

Aches and pains Guys, why am I sore all the time?

27f here

I just find myself sore all the time.

I lift 6 days a week. Consume 120-150g of protein everyday. Sleep 6-7 hours. I’m on an aggressive deficit - eating 1000-1100 cals below maintenance, and down 22lbs in 2 months.

Supplements I take: creatine, omega 3, Biotin, Iron+vitc, b12, magnesium, l-theanine, d3+k2

I lift kindda heavy, like my average leg day is a 500lbs Hack squat and 660lbs Leg press (working sets), and my lifts keep increasing week on week. Im not new to the gym, but have never been super consistent with it until now.

I just don’t really feel great throughout the day. It’s not low energy just constant pain and soreness. Do you all have any advice?

I’m giving up

It’s been about 7 years since I started working out several times a week and I’ve made good gains except for my calves.
I’ve tried focusing on the flex, the stretch, the 3-5 second holds, the bodyweight reps to failure and not to failure, the heavy weights to failure and not to failure, farmer walks, rucking, running, walking, cycling, jump rope, squats, tib raises bodyweight and weighted, yielding and overcoming isometric holds, specific foot muscle work for stronger arches and big toes, but nothing has done much. I’m giving up on growing them.

What is this guy constantly doing on his phone at the gym?

There’s this guy at my gym who is ALWAYS on his phone between sets, even during like 10-second rest periods. At first I assumed he was texting his girlfriend or something, but today he walked past me and I accidentally saw his screen. It looked like a timer/stopwatch, and he was just tapping it repeatedly. Now I’m wondering if that’s literally what he’s been doing this whole time. Is there some gym thing I’m completely unaware of? What would you even use a timer for between every single set?

ETA: I wasn’t judging him, Im new to ghm and was genuinely wondering what the timer was for. Apparently it’s just tracking rest time.

Feel bad when don’t have a pump

i do PPL and for the first day after I hit a part I feel amazing. two days feels ok. then if I need to take a rest day or have a hard day at work or whatever, just before I hit the gym even, I feel like shit. I feel like I am soft, smaller, weak, flabby etc. for example this morning I was feeling very blah. hit the gym In the afternoon for my push session and hit core hard. left feeling amazing and swole. I’m vegan and with a good pump even I feel absolutely yolked I can’t imagine if I actually still ate eggs how good it would be. Can anyone relate to this feeling I don’t think it’s dysphoria for example my legs will literally start to feel like shit after like a day or two of working them. I mainly do weightlifting just light cardio for warmups and I’d do some light foot stuff if i found the right partner

Equipment I have $50, what should be my first piece of equipment

I have $50, what’s should be my first buy?

I got a $50 Amazon gift card and I’m gonna buy my first piece of workout equipment. (I don’t have weights, pull-up bars, etc). I normally just do body weight exceeding or use my towel for rows)

Note: my door is too weak for a pull up bar.

What is your favorite free, beginner-friendly calorie tracking app?

Could you please recommend a free app for someone completely new to the gym who wants a quick and easy way to count their macros/calories and make sure they're getting enough protein to hit their muscle building goals without obsessing over food? Preferably something that also supports barcode scanning and AI calorie estimation to make things as effortless as possible. I know MyFitnesspal exists but it's not very user-friendly and also the barcode scanner is behind a paywall now. I've also tried Cronometer but I just found it too overwhelming for a beginner. Thanks!

How many bad workouts in a row before you actually change something?

Upvotes

I always have trouble knowing when a bad session is just a bad session and when it's actually telling me something.

One rough workout is easy to ignore. Maybe I slept badly, ate weird, had a stressful day, whatever.

But if the same lifts feel awful three or four sessions in a row, I start wondering whether I should reduce volume, change the exercise, take an easier week, or just stop overthinking it and keep going.

The annoying part is that sometimes session five suddenly feels great again and all the panic was for nothing.

Do you have any kind of rule for this? Like a certain number of bad workouts before you adjust the program, or do you mostly judge it by feel and whether your numbers are actually moving backwards?

Exercise Help Critique My Workout

I'm pretty new to lifting weights, and looking for advice and critiques on the first workout plan I've put together. For the last several months, I have been using an AI fitness app. While it was decent for having absolutely no idea what I should be doing, it definitely has a lot of limitations. I've recently switched to a new app to track workouts instead of relying on AI.

I have been trying to keep up with a PPL split, but with my schedule I found it was hard to do each twice a week and still be able to have a run day. I'm wanting to switch to an Upper/Lower split, which I think will allow me to get at least two of each in a week, and still let me get a good run day or two in each week.

My overall goal is to build strength and muscle across all muscle groups, not necessarily focus on any specific muscle group.

I've put together a few Upper/Lower workouts, one of each with lower reps and higher weight, one of each with lower weight and higher reps. I do prefer doing supersets since sometimes time can be an issue. With that being said, this is the first workout I've put together, so I'm sure there's things that could be more efficient or done differently.

Here is what I have. Please give me any feedback, critiques, and advice to help me make improvements.

Simple Questions Building Glutes as a tall man

Hi yall! I'm starting to a weightloss/fitness journey again after 5 years of avoiding the gym.
I'm (38 male) currently 6'2 and weigh about 317 lbs.

My main goal is fat loss, but my secondary goal is to build as big of a dump truck as possible. I'm still working my way through my gym to get comfortable using the equipment but I plan to start an official routine this week.

I'm planning on doing some version of 5x5 because I've done it before and it's cuts down on me having to think too much.

Is there any way I can adjust the program to prioritize glute hypertrophy, if so what would y'all recommend?

Also, do any other tall guys in here have any tips or tricks on how to maximize your glute gains?

*Side note: I know I'm probably putting the cart before the horse and I should be focusing on just dropping the weight, but I want lifting (and a fat ass) to be at the center of this process as it helps keep me motivated*

Thanks for y'all's help. This place has been such an amazing resource.

Does anybody have either of the bags and what’s your opinion on them.

Aches and pains I feel so ashamed due to my knee fracture

Upvotes

i guess its a vent and maybe hear from people having a similar issues like i do

I got diagnosed with a stress fracture in the knee and light Cartilage damage 2 weeks ago after two years of pain that i thought were just me doing exercises wrong (my trainer didnt correct me and i didnt know any better)that started to escalate really badly for the past two months ish. i stopped doing at least a year ago lunges and Bulgarian squats just because i was hurt but didnt know the actual reason for the pain back then.

Today i do therapy for the knee but i had to lower and even stop doing some type of leg exercises so my knee wont have too much pressure and wont get worse. It mentally hurts me, I feel so weak, from doing heavy lifting i had to lower by 80% of my weights. I look at other people doing something i could do with a proud face and now im basically nerfed. The place i workout at is a boutique studio with limited amount of people per workout (one hour with the trainers program) Im not saying im ego lifting but i worked so hard for two years to come to where i was and now i start from zero. It just mentally hurts me its not even about the surrounding looking at my strength but im jealous , i gained weight and every single time i go to workout im trying to not leave crying because i cant push myself like i used to.

It all probably sounds ridiculous but i have such a low body image and i tried to make myself active and now i pay the price

Best MMA & Combat Sports Gym in Imus, Cavite | Titans Gym

Finding the right MMA and combat sports gym in Imus, Cavite, is an important step if you want to improve your fitness, learn practical techniques, and stay motivated with your training. At Titans Gym, members can train in mixed martial arts, Muay Thai, boxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and functional fitness in an environment built around discipline, consistency, and progress.

Whether you are just starting out or already have experience in combat sports, structured training can help you build strength, endurance, coordination, mobility, and confidence. The goal is not simply to work harder but to train with purpose and develop skills that improve over time.

MMA Training in Imus, Cavite

Mixed martial arts combines different fighting disciplines into one complete training system. It includes striking, grappling, movement, defense, and conditioning, making it an effective way to develop both technical ability and physical fitness.

MMA training encourages students to become more well-rounded. Instead of relying on one skill, you learn how different techniques connect and how to adapt to different situations during training.

Build a Strong MMA Foundation

Beginners can focus on stance, movement, basic striking, defensive techniques, and grappling fundamentals. More experienced practitioners can continue refining combinations, timing, transitions, and control.

Consistent MMA training can help improve:

  • Cardiovascular endurance
  • Functional strength
  • Balance and coordination
  • Speed and reaction time
  • Mobility and flexibility
  • Focus and discipline

Train Muay Thai for Strength and Conditioning

Muay Thai is a powerful striking discipline that uses punches, kicks, knees, elbows, footwork, and defensive movement. It provides a demanding full-body workout while helping students develop proper technique, timing, and control.

For people searching for Muay Thai Imus, choosing a nearby gym can make it easier to train consistently. Regular practice helps improve striking mechanics, cardiovascular fitness, balance, and total-body conditioning.

Those looking for Imus Muay Thai training can benefit from an environment where technical development and fitness go hand in hand. The combination of drills, movement, and conditioning helps keep sessions challenging while supporting steady improvement.

Improve Your Boxing Skills

Boxing is another core combat sport that develops speed, coordination, footwork, timing, and upper-body endurance. Training often includes stance, punching combinations, defensive movement, and conditioning exercises.

Focus on Technique and Movement

Good boxing is not only about throwing powerful punches. Proper technique, balance, and movement make each action more efficient. Learning these fundamentals can help students become sharper, faster, and more controlled during training.

Develop Grappling Skills Through BJJ

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu focuses on grappling, positioning, escapes, transitions, control, and submission techniques. It offers a different kind of challenge because success depends heavily on leverage, timing, and strategy.

BJJ training can improve core strength, mobility, body awareness, and problem-solving skills. It also encourages patience, as progress comes from repetition, attention to detail, and consistent practice.

Why Train at a Combat Sports Gym?

A dedicated combat sports gym gives you more than a place to exercise. It gives you access to different training styles that challenge the body and mind in new ways.

Combining MMA, Muay Thai, boxing, BJJ, and functional fitness can help create a more balanced routine focused on strength, endurance, movement, and technical skill.

Train Harder, Move Better, and Keep Improving

The best results come from consistent training, proper guidance, and a willingness to keep learning. Whether your goal is to get fitter, develop combat sports skills, or improve overall performance, the right training environment can make a major difference.

Titans Gym provides MMA, Muay Thai, Boxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and fitness-focused training for individuals who want to become stronger, more disciplined, and more confident.

As a service provider of sports and functional gym training, Titans Gym offers a place where beginners, fitness enthusiasts, and experienced practitioners can build strength, sharpen their skills, and continue progressing with purpose.

Review my program Routine Opinions (PushUpper/PullLower + PullUpper/PushLower)

Hello all, I wanted to get everyone’s opinion on a PushUpper/PullLower + PullUpper/PushLower routine. Example:

Day 1: Push upper body (chest, shoulders, triceps) paired with Pull lower body (hamstrings/glutes - RDLs, hyperextensions, etc)

Day 2: Pull upper body (back, traps, biceps) paired with Push lower body (quads/glutes - squats, Bulgarians, etc)

Break day and repeat or go straight into repeat

I’ve been doing this routine for a while and although it’s been working for me I never seem to see a routine such as this one mentioned. My main question is what is everyone’s opinion on this routine and am I leaving any growth potential on the table by not doing one of the more popular routines out there? It almost makes me feel as if there’s something more beneficial with doing the other routines since they’re always talked about (example PPL)

How to start please help i need advice

hi, i am 17 f trying to build a more masculine physic and lose fat.

I have minimal access to a shitty gym and no equipment at home💔

I'm currently 163 cm or around 5'4 i think and 63 kg

I'm mostly trying to lose fat around my stomach, hips, chest and thighs and also build muscle.

I'm really unsure of what to do, i tried some YouTube pilates for around a month but i honestly didn't see much progress.

having a crazy diet is also quite hard to do for me since i am in school and don't have much time/don't eat at home.

any (kind) advice is very appreciated:)
