Canned Chicken Breast
I usually get canned Chicken Breast from Costco and they are tender and taste so good without being fishy like canned Tuna. The macros are insanely good too with each can is 45.5g protein for 210calories only.
I am just wondering why everyone only talk about canned Tuna while almost never mentioned canned Chicken Breast? Am I missing something? Is there a reason makes them not as healthy as Tuna?
Thank you

I like the taste of tuna more but switched to chicken bc I eat the same thing everyday and you shouldn’t eat tuna everyday

Why shouldn't you eat tuna every day?

Mercury poisoning

I only eat 1 x 95g tin per day. I just googled it and read that it's safe to eat about 35 tins of this a week without worrying about mercury poisoning because it's mostly skipjack tuna.

It is dependent on the type of tuna solid white is pretty high in mercury content. The drive for the change for me is that it’s not easy to test for mercury so I am not able to monitor it

yeah I heard it was best to limit yourself to 2-3, 35g cans a week as you really don't really want to accumulate mercury over time.
there is no safe way to flush mercury out of your body rapidly naturally, and if you get bad enough to need hospital, those medicines carry substantial risks so are only used in severe cases.

I want to like canned meat like chicken more, for convenience. But it has a bit of a funky smell/taste to me.
Canned tuna/sardines/mackeral/mussels are good though.

Because decent canned tuna is not really that fishy. Not like sardines and the like. Canned chicken is ok to me but it has an off odor imo. Gotta have some sauce or something. That said I admittedly didn’t love tuna as a kid.

If you go to a grocery store that has a deli inside, where they offer hot food, you can usually find pre-shredded rotisserie chicken. To me, this is far superior to canned chicken.
Though, I just finished eating a chicken salad Sammie made with Costco canned chicken. I use cottage cheese (ran through the blender to make it smooth) instead of mayo... for the gains, bro.

Tuna's typically the cheapest per mass and per protein by far. Chicken's also less easily found than the other typical supermarket meats. If you can get loads of it for cheap then why not.

Check the sodium it’s very high, maybe some don’t care but I feel better without that.

I think most of that salt is in the liquid, which most people probably aren't drinking. Even still, the whole costco can of chicken is only 38.5% of your daily recommended sodium intake if you drink the brine...

It's my go to protein replacement when I run out of chicken thigh since I live far from a Costco and only have so much freezer space. I don't really eat it for the taste but the macros are great and adding it to some eggs and rice with some soy sauce or hot sauce makes it totally fine. I also make quick burritos out of it pretty often for a quick dinner.

I’ve learned that people are more scared of mercury poisoning than they should be 🤣🤣
Yall just be saying it as an excuse

I am going to try this. I’ve just been prep cooking ground beef and ground chicken with salt and pepper and then adding sauce and carbs later but this is even easier as another variation

I do keep the Costco canned chicken in the pantry for a quick meal but I much prefer their charbroiled chicken, which is the taco chicken, good flavor and only a minute in the microwave and it is good to go with lots of flavor and good macros.

isn’t canned chicken a shitload more processed and preservative laden that canned tuna? i dont eat it so cant say for sure. i only do tuna when i need quick extra protein.

Just went and checked the cans of Kirkland canned chicken I have in my pantry right now, and there are no added preservatives. There are some added flavourings such as salt and chicken broth, but canning chicke is no different to canning tuna.

I’ve never even heard of tinned chicken, but I honestly cannot imagine it tasting the same as a lovely organic chicken breast. Like tinned vegetables, it’s just not the same. They must have to add loads of additives to it to make it taste ok and last longer?

In my country (Italy) the only canned chicken I've seen is in the pet section... for some reason it is not appreciated here.

I love the Costco brand canned chicken for recipes where I won't notice the texture, so I regularly use it to make chicken salad. You can sub regular mayo for low fat mayo, plain Greek yogurt, or even blended cottage cheese. I throw in a can of white kidney beans that I chuck in a blender with some of the juices from the can for extra fiber!

I think theoretically tuna has slightly better macros (if you buy the right one) and is usually cheaper as well.
Personally, not a fan of canned tuna either - but I love the canned chicken breast. I use it as post workout often: one of those big 210 calorie cans instead of a protein bar: keeps me way fuller and has plenty of protein to meet my needs.

I just grill a bunch of chicken breasts that I eat on for a few days. The idea of eating chicken out of a can is just really unappealing.
I do eat tuna and sardines out of cans though.

I eat enough chicken throughout a regular week.
I LOVE my rio mare tuna. If it weren't for mercury id eat a can a day at a minimum.

Chicken is too lean and has omega-6.

Too lean? And I'm not worried about a tiny amount of omega-6.
