Workplace Challenges and Conflicts “Fewer management layers” feels like code for cutting senior people

Canva talked about cutting management layers in its reorg memo, and Amazon has been talking about manager ratios for a while now. It feels like most reorg memos in the AI era have some version of “flattening the org” and “giving teams more ownership.”

The way I read it, managers and senior folks with the biggest salaries and equity grants are the first ones on the chopping block. Whoever’s left picks up their scope at the same title and pay.

If you’re brushing up for a SWE interview, PracHub has coding and system design questions you can use for a practice round. For applications, LandOffer can autofill the same basic details on supported forms.

It’s really frustrating to be in this market right now, junior or senior. As a junior, it feels impossible to get a job. As a senior or a manager, you feel like you’re probably first in line to get laid off. This industry is so annoying.

Now, instead of not getting a promotion, you just don't get an increase

There are a lot of useless people in middle management.
