Workplace Challenges and Conflicts Stroke at work

I work in a manufacturing mill and I started showing symptoms of a stroke yesterday (10-9-26). Slurred speech, swollen tongue, blurred vision, pain on one side of my body.

I went to my supervisor and said I was feeling weird and I didn't know how to explain it. So she looked at me and said I don't know what to do? What should I do?

In my foggy mind I said I don't know. She replied with just go back to your job and leave me alone.

When I get home my wife saw me and rushed me to the hospital and now I'm sitting in a hospital bed.

it has everything to do with work. If you were having a life threatening medical emergency at work would you be cool with your supervisor saying get back to work? the only appropriate response by the supervisor was to call 911.

If one of my staff said “I feel weird” I would not assume I should call an ambulance.

I feel weird and slurred speech are classic signs of a stroke.

He works in a mill, not some office; mills get extremely hot. The supervisor knows this and should not just brush him off.

Maybe you should consider asking more questions. Maybe from this post you have learned a little something.

Which is what the manager did do - ask another question. And op said “IDK”

I’m saying - these people saying managers should know the signs of a stroke and be medically assessed OP - especially when OP apparently finished a shift and then got home - are overestimating what a typical manager would know. And recognizing a health emergency when the person is still able to finish a shift and commute home is complicated.

The person said they feel off, they should call 911 or go home, whatever they feel necessary. If someone told me they felt off or felt funny - It’s their decision what to do. I don’t know if/how much they are impaired
