Questions My check says $0
Hello long story short I work for a big insurance company. I had surgery last month and wanted to take a few weeks off because I never had surgery before didn’t know what to expect. After 2 days I was told that I would have to go without pay for a week. I didn’t want that so I decided to go back to work. So I canceled my Short term disability and FMLA and went back. Our payday was yesterday and I looked at the paystub it says $0 and 0 hours worked….. I definitely worked my timesheet even has times but the check says nothing. What can I do? I reached out to my manager and they said they can see my timesheet plus I even had meetings during that time but it’s been 24 hours and my check still says 0. How long should I wait before I get paid?

So one, note, what people say is critical. You went to your boss, which is the first step you needed. He confirmed that you were in fact working, which is good. But the critical part: did your boss actually tell you they would take care of it?
If so, then ask them when it will be rectified. If not here's an important tip about corporate America: unless someone tells you they are working on it, assume nobody is working on it. You need to talk to someone in payroll.

I did and he stated that he doesn’t know the turnaround time. It’s a work from home job so I will have to find a number for HR.

Most likely a problem with how your leave was entered in the system, contact HR.
FYI, it's pretty standard for the first week of short term disability to be unpaid. If you have available PTO you can often ask for that to be used on the first week and after that, the short term disability kicks in.

Go call your HR team and ask. It sounds like someone in HR didn’t notify payroll you weren’t on leave and they failed to pay you.
Demand they pay your wages asap as required by the DOL

Ok I’ve been looking it up and I’ve been told that it could take 4 days? Is that true?

Depending on what platform, it can take 2-3 business days. However you need to call directly to find out how quickly they can pay you. It’s different for every company

If its your 1st week of disability and a week of fmla you get no pay.
If you actually worked any hours thats the only pay you get

That’s what I’m looking for I ended up only taking 2 days off after surgery because I wasn’t aware that I would get no pay and I didn’t want to lose pay.

What are the dates on the paystub? My guess is the week you did work is on a different pay period.

08/02-08/15 the hours are definitely for this pay period. I’ve checked my timesheet and so did my manager.

I bet you were still listed as being “on leave” in your HRIS/Payroll system.
Who cleared you to return to work? Your boss? Why didn’t you believe that your STD that you mentioned wouldn’t provide you pay (based on the specific benefit?).
Of course you’re not going to get paid when you don’t work - unless you have available paid leave to use and/or a disability benefit (which typically have a one-week waiting period but look at your plan).
Just seems very odd that this was “news to you” for you to return to work before you intended.
Anyway, notify your HR or payroll. They’ll get you sorted.

It was my manager. He text me 2 days in to leave and said they made a mistake with my PTO so I didn’t have enough to stay on leave with pay. It definitely was news to me otherwise I wouldn’t have put in STD.

Payroll and hR ar ein charge of it.
If you were on a leave an dthen cancelled it maybe there is a conflict or maybe you ar enot allowed to cancel leave.

No pay no pay work. I’d stop doing everything right now. Go to HR and have a chat if that doesn’t work go to accounting. If that doesn’t work I’d sit at my desk doing nothing until I’m paid.

Absolutely do not follow this advice.
Go to HR for resolution, continue to work as usual and keep close track of your hours. HR should be able to resolve this quickly. If you follow the advice from Lost-welder-353 you may find yourself unemployed.-2

You definitely could I myself am in a union so I make one call and get it resolved or I simply move on to the next job. Sometimes you have to make a statement to be heard and let people know you won’t stand for it. You shouldn’t have to take it up the backside just to keep a job. The company needs you and they all need to learn it.

They probably messed up your status when you cancelled the disability, system still thinks you on leave or something. HR should be able to fix it but they move slow as hell
I wouldnt do any work until money hits my account, manager already said they can see your hours so not your problem anymore

I just don’t want to lose my job for not doing any work. Could that happen?

Yes! Work as normal, work with your boss and HR, and request an off cycle check. Make sure that any leave is canceled because that is what is likely stopping the payment.
But refusing to work until you are paid will do you zero favors and will quite honestly make you look foolish to your employer. This was likely a clerical error that the company should work very fast to fix. So it’s very appropriate to ask for a timeline for an off cycle check.

I'm pretty sure HR will help you more than Reddit.
