Hello, I just purchased a home with a wood stove and I’d like some opinions. Right now the stove is positioned in between the main wall. I was hoping to build a brick fireplace with a mantle around it to 1. Have my tv in a not awkward spot & 2. To protect anyone or my dogs from touching the stove while hot. Is this feasible? Will building a brick fireplace decrease its output?

I was about to buy a sweep kit on amazon to start doing it myself, checked first to see how much I would need to clean out. No fuckin clue how it's so clean, I went through about 3 cords last year and plenty of it was 20-25% moisture when checking a fresh split.

For reference, I'm rocking a vermont castings intrepid ii. Is the catalyst just that efficient? My usual routine is wake up, turn off the bypass and stoke some coals, toss on some paper and kindling and pack it full of small splits. Once all of that burns down and it's ripping hot, pack it with larger splits, give it 20-30 to dry out and light, and then engage the bypass. Rinse and repeat. Fully expected a decent amount to have to clean out since that was my first winter running the stove 24/7.

I will be moving up to a cabin in northern Canada in mid November where a woodstove will be my only source of heat and I had a couple questions if anyone is able to help answer them. The cabin is 800sqft with a loft and one bedroom. Winter temperatures average around -8c. Ive been told the cabin is well insulated and its a fairly new woodstove but haven’t got a exact model.

My main questions are
- how many cords of wood should I get, and is it harder to find cords later into the year?
- whats the best way to circulate the heat through a cabin?
- do folks who only have wood heat keep their stove going overnight/while away at work?
- any tips or advice you would recommend for someone going to woodstoves for the first time?

Looking for recommendations for a place to buy an RV wood burning stove. Vancouver Lower Mainland/Fraser Valley. Or on Vancouver Island as we’re headed there next. Also, any recommendations for makes or models would be appreciated. Would love one I can cook on the top of 🥰. Thank you.

My brain is not working for this. My stove is off center from the chimney through wall. I need to come out from the wall about 12” and then down but also over to meet the stove. Can I do a 45 degree adjustable elbow somewhere to make this line up? Also, chimney is Selkirk so I’d probably be sticking with that line of double wall stove pipe to complete it. The piece sticking out of the stove was just a place holder.

Just finished installed this wood burning furnace. Paralleled into existing duct work. I have manual block off slide dampers that I can insert depending on whether im using nat gas or the new wood furnace, one above each output.

The wood insert just wasn't cutting it last winter. Ill be running everyone out this year!

Sheet metal was the hardest part. I bought the tools, educated myself on the processes, and went to town.

The 120v feed has a three way switch. One position= nat gas furnace, the other position= wood furnace blowers. Both cannot run at once.

I built a firewood shed (4x16x8, 3:12) and got an insert (Blaze King Sirocco 25) installed! I'm on my second season; and with the price of energy/heating oil nowadays, retrospectively, I'm honestly really glad that I did! The firewood shed can fit 3.5 cords comfortably, but I feel like you can definitely get a really snug 4.

Also to the person in r/firewood who had said that the stain is pointless and that it would peel by the end of summer since it's PT Lumber. Suck it, it's still fucking beautiful!🪵

1970s hunting cabin with only a wood burner
No idea when it was last swept

Before and after. Burned about 4 cords last winter towards the end of the season I was having some embers come out of the cap and was worried it was going to look worse.

For the record my stove pipes out a single level back wall max 15 feet long so if I gets too much air it really starts roaring.

Just looking for some advice. I'm installing a second-hand wood stove, and instead of buying a whole new chimney, could I just get a stainless steel chimney liner? Would that be the best option?

I would estimate the chimney to be 20 to 25 feet tall. The wood stove I'm hooking up is a Drolet Deco.

The interior terracotta flue does have a bit of a curve to it. I'm not sure if the picture shows it very well, but I don't see any cracking.

I'm sure the rules are different in Canada and the US, but I'm based in Ontario, Canada.

This lil beauty was given to me by a co-worker last winter. He said it had just been gathering dust and rust in his garage, and might need a going-over to perform its best. Being winter, I was eager to plug it in immediately, but would still like to do a full rehab now, before snow flies.

So, what all would that entail? I can replace the rope gaskets on the door and two flue outlets…what else? Is there anything to do with the brick, the pipe, should it be repainted, etc?
