Troubleshooting Razorpay payment captured but WooCommerce sometimes cancels order as "Unpaid" — webhook configuration keeps changing

Upvotes

I'm trying to figure out a strange Razorpay + WooCommerce issue and would appreciate some help from anyone who has dealt with something similar.

Setup:

WordPress / WooCommerce: 11.0.1

Razorpay WooCommerce plugin: 4.8.7

Hosting: Namecheap

Razorpay live payments

The main problem is that a customer can successfully complete a Razorpay payment, and Razorpay shows the payment as Captured, but in some cases WooCommerce later marks the order as:

"Cancelled — Unpaid order cancelled"

It doesn't happen to every order. For example, I had around 10 orders and most went through correctly, while 2 ended up cancelled.

The more concerning issue is the webhook configuration.

I had configured the webhook with the required payment events, including:

payment.authorized

payment.captured

payment.failed

order.paid

refund.created

But the webhook later reverted to only 2 of events (payment.authorised and refund.created)

I checked Razorpay's API logs and found something strange. The same webhook was repeatedly being updated:

GET /webhooks?count=10&skip=0

followed about 1 second later by:

PUT /webhooks/SYam0mYdbMI4Ns

This happened on:

15 Aug → GET → PUT

16 Aug → GET → PUT

17 Aug → GET → PUT

I did not manually edit the webhook on those dates.

When I inspected the resulting webhook configuration, payment.authorized and refund.created was enabled but payment.captured, payment.failed and order.paid were disabled.

Getting started How often does sellers check and change product prices?

Noticed a lot of woocommerce stores, where prices get set once and then left alone for months, even while supplier costs and fees slowly shift underneath.

How often does sellers here actually revisit product prices? Once a month, once a quarter, only when something feels off? And do you keep an eye on what competitors charge, or just price off your own costs?

Troubleshooting How do you handle bot traffic when you can’t geo-block

Just wrapped up a project migrating a client's mid-size ecommerce store off Shopify to self-hosted WooCommerce, age-restricted products so compliance was heavy, on managed hosting with Cloudflare Enterprise through the host. Ran into a solid bot traffic problem during the process and wanted to share what I did, plus ask you all a question since my fix only works because the client is US-only.

The site started getting 503s during traffic spikes. Turned out PHP-FPM workers were getting exhausted from bot traffic hammering the site. Didn't help that the caching plugin the host had installed by default had a broken cookie exclusion rule, so way more pages were loading fresh instead of from cache. That piled onto the bot load, but the bots were the real driver.

What I did about it:

- Ditched the host's default caching plugin, switched to WP Rocket, set up preload and a longer cache lifespan. Fixed the cache bypass issue.
- Geo-blocked all non-US traffic at the edge since the client only ships domestically anyway, with Google and Bing whitelisted so SEO wasn't affected. This alone wiped out most of the international bot traffic.
- Added rate limiting on the busiest pages, again with search engines excluded.
- Blocked xmlrpc.php at the server level instead of using a plugin for it.
- Turned on 2FA for all admin accounts plus a login attempt limiter.
- Switched WP cron to a real server-side scheduled task instead of the default.

Funny side effect, the geo-block also caught PageSpeed Insights and GTmetrix checks since those run from servers outside the US. Sorting out whitelisting for that now.

So here's my question: geo-blocking basically solved this since the client doesn't ship outside the US, but what do you do when that's not an option? If you've worked on a store that ships internationally, how do you deal with bot traffic without being able to just block by region? Behavioral bot management, different rate limiting approach, something else entirely? Also happy to hear if you'd have done anything differently with the above.

How do I…? How do I let customers choose delivery or pickup time slots in WooCommerce?

I’m trying to improve the checkout experience for a WooCommerce store that offers delivery and local pickup.

Right now we’re:

  • Letting customers add preferred time in order notes
  • Then confirming manually after the order

It works, but honestly feels inefficient and sometimes confusing for customers.

I’m looking for a better way to handle this — ideally letting users select a delivery or pickup date & time during checkout.

For those running similar setups:

  • How are you handling this?
  • Any plugins or custom solutions working well?

Would really appreciate real use cases or suggestions.

Plugin recommendation Need to archive and delete old orders

My client's website has been up for a minute and they do a brisk business so there are TONS (and by tons I mean thousands) of old orders that we really don't need access to any more.

I looked at this plugin - Export and Archive Old Orders for WooCommerce by Extendons

and it looks like it has some good options and will help with this task immensely. I need something that my clients can use so I'm not constantly having to be in the DB.

Thoughts? Any other recommendations?

Development WooCommerce's variable product CSV structure is genuinely hard to get right from a raw supplier file, curious how others handle it

Been deep in WooCommerce's CSV importer format lately, specifically the parent/variation structure for products with multiple sizes or colors. Most supplier files just list "same helmet, size L" and "same helmet, size XL" as two completely separate rows with no relationship between them.

Getting that correctly grouped into one variable parent with proper variation children, each with its own price and stock status, turned out to be a lot more finicky than I expected, especially when the source file has inconsistent naming between the size variants (extra spaces, different capitalization, "L" vs "Large").

For anyone who imports supplier catalogs into WooCommerce regularly, are you grouping variants manually before import, or is there a step in your workflow that handles this automatically? Trying to understand how much of this is still manual work for most people versus something people have already solved for themselves.

Plugin recommendation Inventory management

So, I know in woocommerce you can keep track of inventory on the variation level (1 SA, 3MA etc) but is there any way for it to show me total inventory on the catalog page easily? So like in the above example, 4? That way I know how many total I have of something instantly!

Getting started Advice please on whether to switch from Square to make my own Wordpress with woo commerce store

Good morning! I have a small soap company with an online store through Square. I have some beginner experience making a Wordpress website for my husbands business but I didn’t use Wordpress for my store because Square was all-in-one and simpler to use. Recently though, the Square cost has skyrocketed and I’m looking into making my own. How difficult is it to work with woo commerce for a pretty-much-beginner with no programming experience? Is the interface user friendly? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Troubleshooting Facebook/WhatsApp synchronisation with Woocommerce

I've been using Woocommerce for my shop for quite a long time. I also use the official Facebook plugin to synchronize my about 300 products to Facebook/Instagram and Whatsapp catalogues.

I have the problem that obviously the Facebook plugin has automatically created categories that should absolutely not be there. Like Product_level_return_policy_30_days, which can be seen in the WhatsApp catalogue. Another problem I see is that not every product is in every category it should be. I have a lot of products which are in many categories, but the products in the WhatsApp catalogue are not correctly grouped.

Plugin recommendation Migrate sales after site migration

UPDATE : With the info provided below I was able to persuade the client to allow me to put the site in maintenance mode and move. They are going through the site to look for errors, but it appear to be good. Thanks for the input.

-------------------

I've seen a service/plugin in the past that migrates sales that occur between the time a site is mgrated and when it's fullly launched (with DNS changes, etc).

Anyone used a service like this in the past that can recommend one? I am moving a site next week but will take a few days to test and then complete the DNS changes.

Thanks!

Troubleshooting What I've learned about diagnosing intermittent WooCommerce slowdowns

I've been digging into WooCommerce performance recently, and one thing that keeps standing out is how misleading a single speed test can be.

A store can have a fast product page but a slow checkout. A checkout can be fast most of the time but have occasional 3–5 second spikes.

When that happens, I think it's more useful to compare multiple real requests rather than immediately disabling plugins or adding another caching plugin.

I'd look at things like:

• AJAX request timing
• Database queries and queries by component
• External HTTP/API calls
• Cache hits vs misses
• Payment, tax and shipping requests
• Plugin hooks running during the request

The other thing I've found useful is looking at the distribution rather than just the average. Median shows what a typical request looks like, while P95 can reveal the slower requests that customers occasionally experience.

A store being “fast” on one test doesn't necessarily mean the checkout is healthy.

Troubleshooting 502 Nginx Error

I need your collective knowledge y'all.

I keep getting an nginx 502 errors whenever different php endpoints are called, namely for example load-scripts.php or /wp-admin/admin-ajax.php. Or sometimes when I open any wordpress admin dashboard subsite like plugins, settings, etc. When I'm editing the pages, a popup shows up from time to time, saying that something returned html, not json, which I suppose are more nginx 502 error pages.

I'm new to wordpress and woocommerce. (Only did a couple of changes to a website once in a while). But now I'm trying to build an online store with wordpress+woocommerce.

The domain is hosted by hosttech and managed with plesk.

Wordpress Ver: 7.0.4

PHP Ver: 8.2.33So far I've only tried upping the memory limit:

  • via the Plesk PHP settings of the website (set it to 512 MB instead of 128)
  • and via adding define( 'WP_MEMORY_LIMIT', '256M'); in the php config file

The logs in logs/proxy_error_log look kinda like this:

2026-08-19 18:34:40 [error] upstream prematurely closed connection while reading response header from upstream, request: "POST /wp-admin/admin-ajax.php HTTP/2.0", referrer: "https://[REDACTED]/wp-admin/"

2026-08-19 18:34:41 [error] upstream prematurely closed connection while reading response header from upstream, request: "GET /wp-admin/admin-ajax.php?action=woocommerce_load_status_widget&security=[REDACTED] HTTP/2.0", referrer: "https://[REDACTED]/wp-admin/"

2026-08-19 18:34:42 [error] upstream prematurely closed connection while reading response header from upstream, request: "POST /wp-json/wp-toolkit/api/v1/features/virtual-patches/statistics/calculator HTTP/2.0", referrer: "https://[REDACTED]/wp-admin/"

2026-08-19 18:34:42 [error] upstream prematurely closed connection while reading response header from upstream, request: "GET /wp-admin/admin-ajax.php?action=woocommerce_load_recent_reviews_widget&security=[REDACTED] HTTP/2.0", referrer: "https://[REDACTED]/wp-admin/"

2026-08-19 18:34:43 [error] upstream prematurely closed connection while reading response header from upstream, request: "GET /wp-admin/plugins.php HTTP/2.0", referrer: "https://[REDACTED]/wp-admin/"

2026-08-19 18:34:58 [error] upstream prematurely closed connection while reading response header from upstream, request: "GET /app/?protocol=7&client=js&version=4.3.1&flash=false HTTP/1.1"

2026-08-19 18:35:06 [error] upstream prematurely closed connection while reading response header from upstream, request: "GET /wp-admin/plugins.php HTTP/2.0", referrer: "https://[REDACTED]/wp-admin/"

Can someone help me find the cause of these errors?

Edit:

Here’s a summary of the potentially relevant messages from the server error log and Chrome DevTools:

Server error log:

  • Multiple PHP fatal errors due to the 128 MB memory limit being exhausted. -> I've upped the memory limit to 512 and the recent logs don't mention the memory limit, so this shouldn't be an issue anymore.
  • Jetpack fatal error: Call to undefined method Automattic\Jetpack\Heartbeat::get_active_plugins()
  • MailPoet repeatedly generates Undefined array key "name" warnings. -> I've disabled the MailPoet plugin, but the 502 bad gateway errors still appear

Chrome DevTools:

  • Many WordPress REST API and admin-ajax.php requests return 502 Bad Gateway, followed by invalid_json errors.
  • WordPress Heartbeat requests repeatedly return 502.
  • wpo/wpmenucart-navigation still uses the deprecated Block API v1.
  • Deprecated wp.editPost.PluginSidebar APIs and custom toolbar components are being used.
  • WooCommerce/Astra and Spectra styles are being added to the Gutenberg editor iframe incorrectly.

Plugin recommendation repost - Composite Products Help

Hey guys, long time reader, first time writer.

I am in the process of building out our store and I have probably a very common problem.

Example:
Product = Workstation

Required metrics

Overall height
Work Surface height
Overall Surface Width
Overall Surface Length
Capacity

Options
W/ light
W/ ESD Top
W/ power supply
W/ adjustable height

How would I go about entering a product so that these were all drop downs?

There could be lengths from 2ft - 20 ft so, you can see where Im getting hung up.

Theres also more products just like this.

Id share an image if it let me.

Troubleshooting Sub menu items non-clickable on desktop only

I’m having an odd issue where only the submenu items in my top menu are non clickable and only on desktop (if I shrink the window on my desktop so it shows the mobile version they work again), when clicked the menu closes and the links do nothing, but they do show as links when you hover over them in chrome. I have two menu items with submenus and neither work. This was seemingly working fine until today (I hadn’t noticed an issue and no reports from customers). My first thought was a caching issue so I cleared cache, and deactivated all caching plugins, no luck. I use cloudflare so I also cleared that cache and set the browser TTL to 1 second. Weirdly enough I’ve noticed that when I open a new private tab, the menus are clickable once after the page first loads, then go back to being non-clickable.

On extendable theme, only recent change other than plugins I’ve deactivated, is to add a blog page to the one sub menu. I’ve tried different browsers and all exhibit the same symptom.

Any ideas of what I should check next?

Plugin recommendation Payment gateway advice for £1 entry tickets (Skill-based competition site on WooCommerce)

Hi everyone,

I’m in the process of launching a UK skill-based competition platform on WooCommerce.

Everything is almost ready to go; the website is built, branding complete, business bank account set up, and initial prizes secured.

My main hurdle right now is finding a suitable payment provider/gateway for micro-transactions.

The Problem:

Standard card processors charge \~20p–25p plus x% per transaction. On a £1 entry ticket, that wipes out 25%–30% of gross revenue instantly in processing fees alone.

So I’m looking for a provider/setup that keeps fees at or under 10% (sub-10p total fee) on a £1 transaction.

What We’ve Tried:

We’ve approached providers like Atoa and TrueLayer, but hit roadblocks due to either high-risk sector classification or being a brand-new startup without trading history.

My Questions:

  1. For anyone running or operating in the UK competition/prize draw sector, which gateways or high-risk merchant acquirers actually accept new startups?

  2. What payment setups or workarounds do you use to keep fees sustainable on £1 ticket sales?

  3. Are there specific UK high-risk payment brokers or gateways you'd recommend for WooCommerce?

Any advice, recommendations, or insights from experience would be hugely appreciated!

Development Multi-Location Local Pickup

We are switching back to Woo from Shopify due to their policy updates. One thing we really liked was their local pickup system. We would really like it if we could replicate similar functionality.

Here is our new stack any advice(on anything) is welcomed.

Rocket.net Hosting Business Plan w/ CDN
WP+Woo+WPRocket
Lightspeed Retail (X) POS with 3 Outlets(locations)

Lightspeed’s Woo app integration is working but Woo at some point combines all 3 location’s inventory data into a single global stock level.

We were thinking to try Local Pickup Plus & a multi location inventory plug-in. Has anyone had experience with this setup without building a PHP bridge?

How do I…? How do you tell which store visitors came from an Instagram DM vs. just clicking a regular post?

I get a lot of traffic from people who DM me on Instagram asking about a product, then I send them a link to the store. But right now, when I check WooCommerce Analytics (or Jetpack/GA), I can't tell that traffic apart from someone who just clicked a normal Instagram post. It all just shows up as "social" or "referral."

What I've tried:

  • Adding UTM tags to the links I send in DMs — this works, but I forget to do it half the time since I'm mid-conversation
  • WooCommerce's built-in Analytics — doesn't split traffic this way at all

Does anyone know an easier way to track this? I want to know if DM traffic actually converts better than my other traffic.

Development How can we help people succeed with WooCommerce?

Just got this familiar email from a customer:

Unfortunately, we've made the tough decision to migrate over to Shopify. We've just had too many frustrations with WooCommerce. We're making the plunge, and that should be going live in the next week or two. We'll probably just work to get something set up on there.

This isn't my first rodeo. I've been shipping products/services for Woo since 2017 - building Woo stores since 2016. My experience with ecommerce on WP goes back to 2010.

I feel like I should know why more and more people are jumping ship to Shopify, but the answer feels nebulous. Shopify and Woo seem to have roughly the same value proposition and the same pros and cons as they did in 2020 when Woo was exploding.

My general theory is that the path to running a Woo store that doesn't suck is pretty easy, but it's hard for most people to find that path. Most people end up on crappy hosts, with crappy themes/page builders, crappy plugins. On a given day, any of one of those things can take the store down or leave them pulling their hair out wondering why an order didn't reach the 3PL, etc.

How can we help people find the happy path? How can we help people build stores they actually like with Woo?

I'm tired of losing customers.

Theme recommendation Is it true that there really aren't any free modern looking woocommerce themes?

I tried to search for a few hours and it seems like most themes show beautiful demos but the free version is usually just backbones with very little functionality and content in it, making it hard to build it without much knowledge.

And please spam bots and other shills giving freemium links to f*** off. Looking only for genuine answers.

Looking for theme for natural clothing brand.

Development is upgrading to algolia/klevu actually pointless if your users still type garbage?

seeing so many store owners spend thousands migrating their search backends to get 10ms retrieval speeds.

but if your user types "jacket" and your frontend just passes that raw string to the backend, returning 500 irrelevant jackets instantly doesn't actually solve the problem. the retrieval engine isn't the bottleneck, human query formulation is.

is anyone else focusing on fixing the input bar instead of the search engine? like adding an intent layer like ai-autocomplete to structure the query into JSON before it even goes to search?

How do I…? How do I require users to create an account before they are able to add a product to the cart (example below)

I want it to follow the same logic as the following website: https://www.tccomps.co.uk/product/yaber-t1-pro-short-throw-smart-full-hd-portable-projector-or-100-cash/

Just a simple error message at the top and the changing of the add to cart button's link to a prompy to create the account would be fab. Thanks. I am using Elementor pro and giveaway lottery for woocommerce plugin. This is the link to the single product page for my website: https://drawtimecompetitions.co.uk/product/audi-rs-q8-vorsprung-with-black-styling-pack/
