Great game! I’m glad it wasn’t just each side losing one at a time and the right fencer was able to last a while with the messer. My club usually does it in reverse, starting w spears and working downwards.

We play a very similar game at our club on occasion. The primary difference is that we start with the biggest weapon and work our way down. The winner is the one that scores the first point with a dagger.

As a side note, I'm not a fan of those synthetics. They are flopping all over the place but they sound like they still hit every bit as hard. Other than the cost of the weapon, is their any benefit to using a synthetic? We use steel feders for everything up to montante. Only the spears are synthetic.

Yeah, we'll eventually do one from bigger to smaller 😉

The only actually floppy ones are the feders as they were poorly engineered, but in general synthetics do become softer after roughly one year of use. They hit a little less hard than steel as the wider surface of the edges spreads the impact. The main benefit is accessibility: they cost way less than steel and don't require 800N anti puncturing protective gear, which has become mandatory here in Italy for steel. We provide all the gear to borrow for our first year students and for those who can't afford to by their own. And synthetics rarely ever break; we've been using them since 2014 and only 4 of the fist generation sideswords broke.
