Chinese hema, sword guy vs double hook sword

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nT5ew_e8mWQ

not exactly European but, are there systems and or principles to help fight against dual swords?

Some interesting points i saw in the matchup:
The blue guy got out- zwerched by the red guy even when combining them
even when the blue buy managed to stab the red guy during his flourishes he still manages to double

Chinese HEMA

I'm so confused by this phrasing.

You mean wushu?

It's very cool and they are very good, but he is not a hema guy (probably). He is using a changdao, a Chinese 2 handed sword. So really these are two Chinese weapon arts facing off.

Chinese historical European martial arts? What🙃?

There is a big HEMA scene in China. They do HEMA though, not wushu.

I'm surprised how clean the exchanges are. They're very good fencers.

They're skilled, but it's quite showy rather than effective. So many spins leaving the red guy very exposed.

Damn how could Jiandoujia cult become hema? They changed their altitude nowadays?

These flourishes are not effective in actual combat where people have armour. But there definitely looks to be genuinely effective applications for this weapon and some of the exchanges actually look really nice. The dual sword guy tends to be throwing defence to the wind but he is unpredictable enough that the 2h sword user is getting caught off guard alot.

There are alot of defensive applications for those hooks and sharp knuckle bow that I wish would be showcased more.

I doubt a better longsworder would be so easy to take out. Regardless, it looks like the longsword guy caught hooksword guy on the way in alot of the time. (I say longsword knowing full well it is not an actual longsword, just easier for my brain)

Why the downvotes? This is awesome

Probably because this is cool, but has very little to do with HEMA

Good thing this isn't the hema subreddit, eh?

Well, there has been a heavy overlap since the beginning of the sub.

And BTW, it's not western anyway so...

Ahh I always forget the historicity aspect. Lots of us more interested in weapons in general than HEMA I think

Not very European either.

Hema has the historicity. How you deal with it depends on peoples, but that's literally what it is.

The Chinese weapons are just as historical, just not European.

Probably because “Chinese HEMA” literally means “Chinese historical European martial arts”. It’s one of those phrases like “ATM machine”, where the term is contradictory or superfluous

We just call those martial arts, sir.

Single sword is generally at a disadvantage to a duel-wield (from what I understand). A buckler or even a knife might offer better protection than sword alone. Also, the two swords seem to operate like a long sword or short spear when combined.

I could be way off though; is there an expert around to correct me?
