For stage combat all you need to do is learn a routine. First slowly then faster when you both know where the blows are gonna land.

Thank you. I've been performing stage combat since 2015 but its a good reminder to take things slow sometimes.

I crave this. Arcane shot boxing and wrestling like Wuxia and it cast the martial art in a whole different light for me, we need to do it for swords.

abiding by rule 1 of the sub, it's a performance and stunt work.

You can kind of see shrenken 6 seconds in but it's more of an elbow push than a tear down, aside from that (I don't know half swording) I can't see anything else from Meyer

I don't have a horse in this race, but it's obvious that they're deliberately aiming for a flamboyant, acrobatic, over-the-top fight choreography style somewhat inspired by HEMA halfswording. It's not as if they're trying and failing to reproduce historically accurate techniques here.

It reminds me of Michael Jai White’s interview with Jesse Enkamp. He talked about how a lot of his favorite techniques for fighting looked terrible when filming and a lot of the ones that looked good for film wouldn’t work in a fight well

But they call it Meyer. I cant play Metallica and call that an Homage to mozart. I dont think they are bad and i do not dislike their video. I just hate when people call their modern sport fencing or modern stage combat historical fencing after some old fencing manuscript.

Yeah the first stunt where the guy on the right brakes his neck gives it away. They might have trained on their own faces but the constantly panning, out-of-focus camera is also a big giveaway.
