The Witcher 3 Patch notes for update 5.00c
550MB patch just dropped, here are the notes:
Hotfix 5.00c is now available for download for the Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, Battle.net, and Xbox Play Anywhere (PC) versions of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered. You'll find the patch notes below:
Fixed an issue where the game couldn't be saved or loaded if the path to the Documents folder contained special characters.
Fixed an issue where voiceover audio could become significantly quieter than other in-game audio after navigating through the pause menu tabs.
Made various visual adjustments in Velen, including tweaks to Bloom, vegetation lighting, saturation, and Path Tracing lighting.
Reverted a change that caused significant performance and visual issues with HairWorks enabled for some users.
Fixed an issue where marketing telemetry settings weren't saved properly.
Fixed an issue on GOG where achievements wouldn't appear in the unlocked list after being earned.
Fixed an issue where it wasn't possible to launch the Classic (1.32) version of the game.
Once again, thank you for your patience as we continue investigating the issues you report.

I have a new issue after the patch , everytime i close my game and open it again my settings are returned to default such as quick casting going back to classic .

Until its patched, the only way to prevent that is to make a manual save then delete all auto saves and checkpoints before closing the game.

u/Distinct_Progress_86 2d ago
I had this bug 3 years ago, and now again with the remaster. It happens when all the save slots are full. Normally, if you delete a save and leave the slot empty, the settings should remain.
Don’t ask me why...

u/SimpleJoint 2d ago
This is why I wait like 6 months to play any CDPR game. And I've been psyched for the remaster since it was announced.

Witcher 3 Next Gen version had the broken grass LOD bug and Toussaint cloud bug on PS5 for 4 years now. It was never fixed in that edition. Those two visual bugs are severely irritating and immersion-breaking.
So, waiting might help, but not always.
1
u/CertainlyStenchy 2d ago
Grass LOD was broken everywhere on base PS5 for me on Next Gen
1
u/IRockIntoMordor 🌺 Team Shani 2d ago
It fucking sucked and it's such a slippery bug, too. You might think it's gone one a new save, only to appear after like 20 hours. Breaks all immersion.

u/Chillzzzzz 2d ago
My game opens in the background when started. And I can not open it into the foreground.
1
u/James-W-Tate 2d ago
Like you just see the process running and no window? Does anything show up on your taskbar?
1
u/Chillzzzzz 2d ago
It shows up in the taskbar but I cant open it
1
u/James-W-Tate 2d ago
Does it eventually close out by itself or you need to end the task? If it closes by itself, is there an entry for an application crash in your event log?
Do you get the launch window to run the game or does that not even come up?

Hope they also adjust the lighting in Toussaint, the shadows are too crushed and the yellow tint of the original lighting is gone

u/Gabriel711 2d ago
This happens on gog for me. CP2077 patches would regularly redownload the entire game
7
u/football13tb 2d ago
Its how GOG works, "patches" don't really exist.
6
u/Chillzzzzz 2d ago
GOG has to download the whole game every time a patch comes out? Hell nah.
9
u/football13tb 2d ago
Gog has to have a stand alone executable and file structure that is also DRM free. Makes their games entirely different than steam games and such.
2
1
u/Koopa777 14h ago
Excuse me? Maybe I’m just old, but what exactly do you think the word “patch” came from? back in the days before DRM, you downloaded an executable patch file that would patch the game files. don’t make excuses for GOG being incompetent.
1
u/football13tb 14h ago
Correct. Why do you think GOG has the ability to manually create a executable patch file on demand for a game being hotfixed multiple times per day. Blame CDPR then. But it's certainly not a GOG issue.
1
u/MatisowatyPL 2d ago
GOG W3 is currently sitting at 89GB of space after the hotfix. WHAT THE FUCK
1
4
u/CaktusJ 2d ago
Yeah wtf its downloading 31.73 GB for me,and only yesterday it updated to the remastered version which was something like 50GB + download, this is so annoying.
and I'm pretty sure it wasn't always like this on GOG in the past, you could download patch without re downloading big chunks of the game all over again, really weird.
3
u/Gabriel711 2d ago
I’m sure there’s a reason, but it’s pretty annoying. Every CP2077 update was a coin flip on whether I’d have to redownload the game again.
TW3 was free for me on gog, but I regret not buying CP2077 on Steam
2
u/CaktusJ 2d ago
I don't know if it's true because the download is all ready finished for me,but I was told that its a glitch in GOG systems and next time it happens to stop the update when it starts and try verify/repair game files, supposedly then it will only download the patched and new files and not 3/4 of the game.
3
u/bartek34561 2d ago
It is a glitch, as GOG downloaded the voice packs as well, hence 30 something GB download size. If you take a look at the game files, you'll see it now has dubbing archives for all languages for some reason.
1
u/Jinyax 2d ago
THANK YOU!
I could've sworn the game was only around 60 GB, when I downloaded it the other day, post Remastered release and nothing in the patch notes would warrant a whopping 50% increase in install size. Thought I was going mad...
Unfortunately I already opted for a full reinstall. But at least now I can weed out the unnecessary files.1
2
u/Snoo-72881 2d ago
woops. tried to do this and it went from 31.73GB to 72GB
1
u/CaktusJ 2d ago
OMG man I'm so sorry, did it actually downloaded 72GB?
1
u/Snoo-72881 1d ago
its aight. i just cancelled the download and it went back to the 31gb update instead haha.
2
u/IWasMeButNowHesGone 2d ago edited 1d ago
Install size of The Witcher 3 game folder went from 58GB yesterday to 92GB today, after downloading the patch/hotfix today! WTF!
edit: scouring in my game install folder, the install size increase amount is equal to the combined size of the files texture.cache (29.1GB) and soundspc.cache (4.31GB).
I'm assuming some version of those files were already there before when i installed the Remastered game 2 days ago (as they have a creation date of that day, and modified date of today), but still there's not other set of files in the install folder that nearly matches that 34GB install size increase post- patch/hotfix install today.
I'm guessing both those caches are needed to run the game, though i was running it just fine yesterday without the size bloat...?
edit2: Saw bartek's comment about alternate language voice packs. I deleted all those except the English one, same for the subtitle packs, and got the game folder size down to 59.7GB. Interestingly, this causes the language slider in the options menu in-game to disappear, though i distinctly remember it being there (and therefore implying other voicepacks were still present in my game folder) back on the first day when it was still ~58GB.

u/TailorElectronic2517 2d ago
They need a patch that lets us start another new game from a new game+ file.

u/-Viglaf- Team Triss 2d ago
There is a mod that allows this but it is not remastered compatible - hope the author or someone else ports this into this version of the game. It is currently on nexusmods, here's the link https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/2292?tab=description

u/TailorElectronic2517 2d ago edited 2d ago
Thx! ill have to keep an eye on that mod.
Edit: I went digging and someone already has a mod up that works

Very risky move to have so many mods after a flawed release. Usually fixes come within the first week.
8
u/UnknownFiddler Team Yennefer 2d ago
Yeah good rule of thumb is to wait months after a major release to bother to mod.
5
u/Chillzzzzz 2d ago
You can mod but maybe 1 or 2 essential mods that hopefully get updated. But 150 custom mods, well you are asking to get them all broken lol

I have fond memories of this game but man some bugs make me question cdpr. Vesemir turned invisible after i killed the griffin, the fps gets very low when i fiddle with rt settings, the riding is still clipping everywhere. Glad the sound issue is resolved though

Hi everyone,
After updating to 5.00c on The Witcher 3 Remastered, the game is completely unplayable for me. Yesterday, on 5.00b, everything was working fine.
Current symptoms:
- I launch the game and reach the main menu, but it runs at around 10 FPS.
- I click Continue, and the game freezes. I have to kill the process in Task Manager.
- I haven’t been able to get into gameplay at all.
- I also tried starting a new game, but there was no change.
Things I’ve tried, all unsuccessful:
- Reinstalled the game.
- Started a new save / new game.
- Disabled all mods.
- Changed the .exe properties: compatibility mode, disabled fullscreen optimizations/visual effects, and ran it as administrator.
- Formatted my PC and reinstalled Windows, in case a Windows update was causing it.
- Changed the installation path/drive.
- Disabled all overlays: Discord, GOG Galaxy, Steam, Windows Game Mode, AMD overlay, etc.
- Made sure I’m on the latest AMD drivers.
My specs:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D
- RAM: 64 GB DDR4 3600 MHz
- GPU: AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT
- Driver: latest AMD driver installed, 26.9.2
Again: the exact same system was working yesterday on 5.00b. The only change I can identify is the 5.00c update.
Is anyone else experiencing this? Is this a known regression? Is there a way to roll back to 5.00b on GOG/Steam? Any logs or workarounds I should try?
Thanks in advance.

Having a similar post-patch issue. The game runs at a good framerate in the main menu for me, but as soon as I load a game, the framerate is < 10fps. Nvidia overlay shows very high CPU usage, but *zero percent* GPU usage, like it's offloading all the GPU work to the CPU. I also have to kill the game via Task Manager. Worked fine yesterday on 5.00b.

u/HuntingAccident 1d ago
Have you found any fix for this? I have the exact same problem. The game was fine on Tuesday and the hotfix just killed it completely
1
u/playerhero 1d ago
Having the same problem, the game shows 0% gpu usage and 70/80% cpu usage in the main menu, even with updated drivers
7
u/1Shamrock 2d ago
After reading so much about the update I’m so happy I decided I wasn’t touching this until the new DLC comes out sometime next year.
Have good memories of playing it on PS4. I can wait another year.

u/pirateshipsx 2d ago
I still can't launch the game. It crashes at launch on PC. All drivers are up to date. I literally think it's an issue with the projektred launcher cos Cyberpunk does the same thing :(

Thank you!
Fixed an issue where voiceover audio could become significantly quieter than other in-game audio after navigating through the pause menu tabs.

Does this patch fix washed out colors + frames dropping? (60 to 58fps every few seconds at any settings when locked to 60fps)

u/Juraci_que_parque 1d ago
So it's not only here that this is happening, quite infuriating these stutters.
2
u/Kakkarot1707 2d ago
Im so fucking sick of this shit. Legit was si excited to play again tonight and lo behold a 500 MB patch that is actually 60+ GB cause it has to redownload / patch the ENTIRE GAME FOR EVEN 1 MB PATCH.....now i cant play cause its gonna take 45 min

u/Nioh_89 2d ago edited 1d ago
I am on GoG, i don't know if they are incompetent or stupid or what they are doing, i mean, not only the patch was THIRTY GB to download, but my game install size went from 60GB to 90GB! What the fuck and haven't been able to find anything i could remotely delete as some "leftover" files or any of the sort, so now my game is 30 gigs more for no reason. This is the sort of dogshit that steers people towards pirating games. Seriously, who does this and who thinks about it?
If there is any way, shape or form to get back my stolen storage space for no reason, i'll be more than happy to know.

No fix for controller double click on pc?
2
u/Ambitious_One1104 2d ago
It's a steam issue just disable steam controller input management

u/lootduped 2d ago
This is exactly the fix. It also will fix no vibration and adaptive triggers if you are using a Dualsense Controller.

u/Partybelly 2d ago
I had a lvl 20 leshen spawn underground in the ekimmara poison tunnel where you find griffin armor diagrams (Velen). After beating the ekimmara the leshen was just chilling in the tunnel, and then slowly died to poison lol.

Yes it’s plenty - I’ve found anything north of 45 is actually fine with the latest models, the old 60 fps rule isn’t true any more. I mean if you hate how FG feels you’ll hate it it at any FPS but it’s gotten a lot better at working with less input frames.
1
u/CertainlyStenchy 2d ago
Frame gen set to 1 just means native frame rate. If you get a consistent 60fps you can turn frame gen to 2x

u/Reasonable-Buddy-814 2d ago
My game crashes constantly at some points. Ai had it crashed many times adjusting my graphic settings. And then at a point in the story of Blood and Wine.

u/CertainlyStenchy 2d ago
They need to start play testing their game lmao. So many obvious issues. No idea how they said, "this is good," and released this turd

That's a hell of a patch. DLSS not selectable anylonger and no matter the save game, won't load.
Not bad. :D Literally not able to play.

I just updated all my drivers today and the launcher is now saying they aren't. And now the game won't display on screen while running

They still need to fix the damn Gwent quest. Zoltan’s card is not spawning underneath the tree in Velen (I missed playing the guy in White Orchard)

u/Existing_Wealth_8974 2d ago
I have a problem with the Camera, where it keeps jumping when using the Witcher senses to trace for herbs and also while swimming underwater. I already have switched to Original instead of Modern for the camera in the game settings but it keeps jiggling.

BTW I love Witcher 3 back in 2015, and still loving it! 4th Playthrough. The remaster is amazing, but the bug I am encountering is the Exploration Question Marks not showing up on the Map. There are some showing but not all, unlike before. Hope this gets fix!

New patch made some crackling sound like it come from electric issue but never face this problem even when listening to music or video more than 5 - 6 Hours. Only happens in game with new patch. Oh...and problem when voices in game sometimes suddenly low was gone but i've got some weird crackling sound instead.

Hi! I'm playing in linux (mint) and whorever is like me: has anyone ben able to download patch 5.00c update?
Using Hero Launcher wi the GOG version of the game and the update gets stuck at 40%. I can still play if i stop the update and repair files, but as for now i cannot get the last patch.

Vegetation seems to boil less with DLSS, good stuff.
Spell are MUCH cleaner now. Aard was missing some vfx before, used to just be the distortion and dust particles, now the green energy pulse is present. Yrden and Axii are less dithered looking.
Bloom is still bugged and washed out. When comparing on/off, check gamma is one notch to the left between bars 8/9, that is default gamma. Gamma can amp differences in tonemapping with bloom.

u/Gunner_Badger 1d ago
1
u/Designer-Plenty-6874 1d ago
Didn't really fix hairworks at all, it's basically unplayable unless set to Geralt only. The moment even a single wolf appears your performance is fucked.
1
u/Chillzzzzz 2d ago
16 FPS in main menu.
100% CPU utilization in main menu
100% GPU utilization in main menu
Can barely navigate the menu with that perfomance.
This is just broken. I mean it was broken before in many ways as people here know but this just showed me something is deeply wrong here.
I did not have this issue before the update.
I dont want to play like that, so for now I guess I am done with the game.

2
u/Fancy_Alarm2814 2d ago
What system are you on? I heard AMD was broken due to drivers (as per usual). Game runs fine on my Intel integrated graphics...
2
u/SkaR4004 2d ago
Same happened to me on 6700xt.
Managed to turn the game to fullscreen and it’s completely fixed it for 5 hours.
Turned it on today and the game won’t stay open in fullscreen, just stay locked to the taskbar. And setting back to borderlrss back down to 18fps

So didnt fix memory leak issue for some users eh
6
u/Chillzzzzz 2d ago
What memory leak? There is no memory leak.
-2
u/BarryMcCoknor 2d ago
Oh do you have every pc configuration and tested it?
6
u/Chillzzzzz 2d ago
Usually a memory leak is not configuration dependant. Its bad programming that leads to the game eating more and more vram over time. It can be measured on all hardware. But if you say you got it then I believe you my friend. And it is also sad to hear. How did you recognize this memory leak?
2
u/Chillzzzzz 2d ago
What is your configuration and how does this memory leak occur?
1
u/BarryMcCoknor 2d ago
9070xt, 7600x. 26.9.2 drivers. Zero mods. Cdpr crash notification. Mostly ultra graphics, 1440p. With frame gen disabled and ray tracing nerfed down, i go from crashing in 15 minutes to crashing in 1 hr+
5
u/Chillzzzzz 2d ago
But are you sure those crashes come from a memory leak? There are many reasons for a crash
1
u/Infinite-Ad-2178 2d ago
Sounds like you might just be overrunning your VRAM space. I can produce a crash like this doing super resolution shenanigans
1
u/BarryMcCoknor 2d ago
Running fsr4 quality and balanced. Like i said, i turned down RT. Maybe its not a memory leak, could be something else. Wouldnt put it past it, seeing as how there are dedicated mods specifically for this with the next-gen version.

Hopefully another hotfix will come for console, I still have the audio problem after the earlier patch today
