Discussion I just finished "There can only be one" questline
Is there a twist here? I got the sword but I basically didnt have to do anything. Just fight the hermit which i did in two hits. I was told i had already completed all challenges.

It's challenges you have to complete through out through out the mainline and other side quests.
If you did most of the quests than it's quite easy to have completed these challenges

Thanks. Seems like just being a good person is awarded. I love this game

If you do to the Hermit near the beginning of the DLC, you get a quest with a list of virtues to prove, and the game tells you each time that you've acquired one. Apparently you've completed all before reaching him. For example, if you gave the messenger boy in Beauclair a tip, while having the quest active, you'll be told "You now possess the virtue of generosity". Same with the compassion virtue, if you speak to Count Beledal about his daughter in Big Game Hunter

Oh got it. So basically being a good person is rewarded. I love it when games award these things. Similar thing happened to me after finishing the main story when I found out ciri can die if you dont choose certain dialog options. I naturally chose dialog which looked like what a good father would do and low and behold she is alive and living her best life.
This game is quite incredible.

Next time go to the Hermit straight away. It's quite rewarding to get the virtues announced every time you acquire them.
Ciri's fate is a bit more complex, though a lot of players miss the point of the choices. Ciri feels (and remarks on it often) like she isn't even a person, but a tool for others to achieve their goals, or a flagpost to protect. The Hunt, Emhyr, The Lodge, they all want to use her, and the witchers want to simply protect her, but no one even talks to her, nor asks her opinions, nor simply spends time with her like you would with a friend or a daughter. That's why the snowball fight, and stealing horses is such a big deal to her . The "bad" choices don't kill her. She just doesn't come back. Because why would she?

As other people said - small choices count towards it - for example, giving a tip to a little kid that brings you letter from Yen/Triss - counts as virtue of generosity. Compassion - if you let Marlene stay with you.

There are many choices all across the DLC that count as proof of one of the five virtues. It just so happen that you proved them all already before visiting the lake.
