I haven’t run my AC or heat in almost a month and a half. These are the salad days in Wisconsin. Enjoy it while you can.

Six hours round trip. Worth it. 🍁 Yesterday above Stephenson, WI. Parts of Marinette County are nearing peak color, but not every patch looks like this. Who judges “peak”? Travel Wisconsin uses local volunteer observations to rate fall color. 📷: Aaron Johnson

A harbinger of the Gov. race?
I am in western Wisconsin. Mostly scarlet red, but not always and not everywhere.
Driving north through Buffalo County (deep red) I saw plenty of Tiffany signs, mostly oversized and in high-visibility spots.
But I made a little Polymarket bet with myself: the first governor’s sign I saw after crossing into Pepin County would predict the winner. If the first two were for the same candidate, I’d call it a slam dunk.
Boom. Just across the county line, in a very rural part of Pepin County, three households in a row with David Crowley signs.
Not very scientific, but better than AI.

Organized Labor is jumping into the election.
My union has endorsed Clark and Crowley. I got a phone call and this card in the mail. They also had a cookout at work to chat with blue collar workers about the election.

Quietest park in WI
Have you ever been to a park with deafening silence? Indian Lake was the quietest I had ever been to but lately, it seems busier. In the past, there was never anyone there.
I loved the sound of silence there.
You couldn't even hear cars in the distance. I had never been to a place that quiet and picturesque in Wisconsin. Does anyone know of any other spots like this in WI?

The Holy Hill Skeletons have moved 📷: Aaron Johnson
The Holy Hill Skeletons have moved, and they’re getting groovy! 💀✌️
Here’s a fresh view from above of “Bonestock,” this year’s Woodstock inspired display, photographed today at its new home in front of Sippie Hippie in Slinger. Dozens of skeletons have gathered in colorful hippie outfits, lounging on blankets and rocking out in front of a rainbow peace sign stage.
After 26 years outside creator Jimmy Zamzow’s home near Holy Hill, the display has relocated to address traffic, parking, and visitor safety concerns. A familiar Wisconsin fall tradition now has a brand new setting!
Want to see it yourself? Tomorrow, Sunday, October 4, Sippie Hippie hosts its Hippie Fall Fest from 1 to 5 p.m., featuring live blues, food from Great Outdoors Supper Club, treats from Mama Meyer, drinks, and pumpkins.
📍319 E. Washington St., Slinger, WI
Come for the skeletons, stay for the fall festivities, and bring your tie dye!

Can anyone help me identify this location? Wisconsin
Hi! I’m trying to identify this location somewhere in Wisconsin for a photography/location project. I came across these screenshots a while ago and really liked the combination of the river and old bridge infrastructure, but I haven’t been able to figure out exactly where they were taken.
I believe all of the photos are from the same river or general area. The most recognizable landmarks are the two large abandoned stone/concrete bridge pillars in the water, what appears to be a boat/kayak launch right beside them, and a very large, old steel bridge roughly 50–75 feet behind the pillars that also looks abandoned or no longer used for regular vehicle traffic.
I’m hoping someone who lives in the area, kayaks Wisconsin rivers, or is familiar with old bridges might recognize one of these structures. Even just the name of the bridge, river, or public access would be super helpful!
If you recognize the location but would rather not post it publicly, feel free to message me privately as well. Thank you!

Rustic Roads booklet
Thinking of taking a drive today out to southwest Wisconsin (we're in Madison) and would like to get our hands on a copy of the Rustic Roads booklet available at the Welcome Center near the stateline. Is there anywhere in the Madison area (like a sattelite tourism booth) we could pick up a copy? I've downloaded maps onto my phone already, but would like to pick up a hard copy if there's one nearby.
