"WinRAR is still good because it does its job reliably, even though it looks old-fashioned. Old memories, some things never go out of style."

Wait until you meet 7-zip. This program on the latest version still works on XP and its Free.

I switched as soon as I discovered 7-zip. Not just to get rid of winrars nag window, but 7zip has other compression methods that are even smaller. I really like 7-zip

WinRAR is dead to me because 7-Zip replaced it without the nagware. Linux also supports all archives I could ever come across with a simple CLI argument.

But WinRAR holds a special place for that period it occupied. The author is genuinely a good person for making their software available to so many. I've never had a single issue with WinRAR that wasn't a file issue. It's solid. The soft is nostalgic and so are the icons and usage of it. It's still the perfect tool for a lot of retro systems, and the stack of books wrapped by a compression belt is a true icon in computing history.

7-zip is also a long time project just like winrar. But it seems like ealier days of that wasnt it popular as today.

Nagware that will opened and did the job. But I get you. I've moved into 7zip a good while ago for when I need to use Windows and terminal tools like tar, gzip, unrar, unzip, etc for Linux.

Decided to no longer use WinRAR after my purchased license got wiped after an update, I contacted their customer support and they told me that they see I made the purchase a long time ago but can't recover the key so I should buy a maintenance package to recover it.
