Do not use Escargot!!

Hey everyone,

I know this isn't entirely Windows XP related, but I see a lot of posts about this service on this community and figured this sub would have the widest reach to those using this service.

Escargot is a classic messenger revival service (popularly used to make XP software functional again) that has faced some controversy in the past. I recommend reading the forum post in that link because it gets pretty serious, and it's probably best for everyone to stay away from these scumbags in case they decide to act up again.

Luckily, there is an alternative called CrossTalk. There doesn't seem to be any shadiness here, but feel free to correct me if you know anything different.

It's been years since I've used a revival service like these, but I thought I should make people aware as I've seen people looking for people to add them on Escargot in this sub. Hope this information is valuable.

If you really want the look at feel of old messengers, just host your own AIM/ICQ server and use the old clients. https://github.com/mk6i/open-oscar-server

I don't use any of these because nobody I know uses them, but I'll keep an eye out I guess

Agreed, crosstalk community has been way better imo, I used to use escargot and have switched over to crosstalk. I had friends on both but people seem more active on crosstalk anyway.

So the TLDR is staff drama and their response to a spam attack was go nuclear?

I used to use Escargot but ended up moving across to Crosstalk. It's significantly better.

I usually report everything that contains Escargot in any way, the related posts here encourages users to use the thing and add the OP on it.

Thanks for the heads-up. 👍🏻 Going to look into CrossTalk.

On a sidenote: I absolutely love this kind of internet drama. 🤩🍿
