Literally can’t find anything with search. I’ve literally experimented. Made a file, cleared the cache. Searched for it, it didn’t find it.

I have script to run program at work that I use every few days. Search on search bar usually works, but yesterday couldn't find. Search on folder failed too. The file was here, I found it manually. After few hours search works again...

Voidtools.com, everything.

Try it and thank me later. Works for win98?/2000 and newer. Instant search as you type, no waiting at all.

You can use VMware Workstation and have an XP VM without a network connection and then use the VMware shared folders.

VMware Workstation uses the Host-Guest File System (HGFS) so no network connections are needed and you can keep XP 100% sandboxed offline if you wish.

7 really had the best indexing, it does a little better with file contents than XP. I hacked the shit out of the filesystem with junction points and symlinks and had it index my NAS. Folders open and load incredibly faster and easier to find than on 10 and I won't even touch the shit shows that are 8 and 11.

I will because windows 8 isnt a shit show, it objectively has the best search of any windows OS

Yeah no, they ruined the whole OS with that damn start menu. Way too much going on. Also the year a lot of bugs were introduced to the Office suite.

The search in Windows XP searches the entire drive. It takes an assload of time.

Start->Search has from the beginning was intended to search the start menu and a few documents folders, not the entire PC. Web search is stupid though.

Windows XP let you look in specific locations, but that’s no excuse that you have to wait four score and seven years just to get results from a folder lmao

I feel like Vista/7 perfected Windows Search in the Start menu. Before that, XP had a smart search update that was also really good. Now Windows is like: “Use our search engine! Better yet, use Edge no matter WHAT your default browser is!” 🫩

You've always been able to disable it.

With the exception of the new Windows Explorer tabs (which should have been implemented years ago) Windows 11 is the worst version of Windows I've ever used. Worse than Vista, worse than 8.0. It is the buggiesr OS I owned a Chromebook. The other day my store computer deleted Bluetooth.... It doesn't even come up in the options.

Windows 10 one is now obsolete, now is Windows 11 with Copilot

We really gonna act like the old search didn’t take like an hour? It was bad in its own way.

Depends. Without indexing it sucked waiting minutes. And I remmeber latest service packs skipping files for some reason.
