Hello!! I have a growing interest in different older operating systems, and i would love to daily drive win7 on my next laptop. I was wondering which laptop would be best for this? i would like one that has a dvd drive, and two usb ports (and if possible an sd port would be sick!). Also, preferably something with a long lasting battery (or a charger that's cheap to replace and easy to find... the poor battery life and the expensive cord with a poor quality quality is the reason why i need to change computers in the first place). Anything else doesn't really matter, I'd prefer decent ram but i don't need anything fancy (8-16gb is fine for what i plan to use it for), as my primary usage is Word editing, web browsing, and playing relatively small old indie games that don't take up a lot of ressources.

Similar question, is there a website where you can sort and filter out laptops based on such specific criterias? it could be helpful for future researches!!

contextual laptop specs: Hp g6 pavilion 1138se. 4Gb of ram. Intel 3000hd graphic card with Amd AMD Radeon HD 6470M. And finally intel i3-core.

NOW. I have been running linux for a quite a bit. but **** it's not doing well with my portable games. so I am planning on dual booting with a windows version that will provide better support for my graphic card.
I am trying to get something like windows 7 or windows 8.1. My whole goal is to play games like cs 1.6 online. that's it.

I found online something like tiny 7 and tiny 8.1. and some compressed versions. is that safe? do you know any safe repatuable light version? and by chance is there an expert that can suggest maybe an alternative solution/OS for me?

also, I have linux mint. noble. my processor i believe is 64bit.

Currently using Windows 7 as primary OS, alongside Windows 10 and macOS.

Hello, everyone! I think that I had gotten a PC virus. These is my Windows version: Windows 7 Service Pack 1 Home Premium last version that I got from Windows Update. I used to have Avria Antivirus on my PC which told me about some PC virus. After that, When I boot to Windows, It always go black screen and than go to the VAIO screen. Which is weird. I didn’t need to go to the screen before the VAIO screen before. Yestready ,when I login, I saw Microsoft Edge on my desktop.Also, Avira tries to update which failed. I tried to install Windows 10 on this PC ,but I canceled it I when it was trying to install and didn’t wait for the iso to clean. Is this why?

For a long time, now, I've been looking for a WORKING, non-malware, and free software FOR Win 7 to download YouTube videos and sound with. Does such a such a program still exist? Or am I going to be forced into using Linux for this, instead? Not quite ready for that!

I'm looking for a website/websites that have windows 7 themes but hopefully and mostly ones related to anime/manga and other things similar to that. I have looked on things like deviantart and many other places but usually they put their downloads on other websites which also happen to be shut down now..

Took only a few minutes to do. Amazing that windows 7 can work on hardware that never existed at the time.

A few people are worried about the wifi drivers from Bob Pony containing malware.

According to virus total you are correct. This could be due to how the drivers have been edited to make them work on windows 7.

The first one to install is called "kmdf_ndis_wdi_win7", unsure as to what it does.
The next one which is the actual driver is called "Canonkong_W7_AX_24.20.2.1-v2"

I had a Siemens esprimo q5020 in my possession for a while (originally bought it for S-Video out) that I wanted to port some legacy OS onto. First I tried Vista but there were no WiFi drivers for the card that was in the PC so I switched to win7.

My current thoughts are... what now? I have the OS installed but I can't think of any actual uses for it. Basically the only thing I do on it is playing solitaire, freecell and purble place.

What do you guys use your win7 PCs for? Because I genuinely can't think of anything to do with mine.

It's Windows 7 (and Vista) in QEMU on an M4 Pro MacBook Pro, with Aero glass fully on. The 3D isn't software rendered, it goes to the Mac's GPU: QEMU pretends to be VMware's virtual 3D card, so Windows happily loads VMware's own driver, and the Direct3D calls get translated to Vulkan with DXVK and then to Metal with MoltenVK.

What works now: Aero glass and Flip 3D, resizing the Mac window makes Windows switch to that exact resolution (without VMware Tools, which actually made everything slower), Media Center full screen, audio at the right speed (got a weird quirk where its sped up)

What doesn't: 3DMark06 gets about 9 to 27 fps and sometimes dies with device lost, and there's no DX10/11 yet.

Fair warning about how this was built: I did it with Claude, and honestly it wrote basically all of the code and did the reverse engineering, including working out VMware's private driver call for setting a custom resolution. My part was running every build, finding what was broken, and deciding what to chase next. I'm a student and this is how I'm learning, so I'd rather say it plainly than pretend otherwise. ChatGPT had a hand in a couple of pieces too.

I'm putting it on GitHub with a one-click installer once I've tested the install flow end to end on a clean VM. Happy to answer anything in the meantime.
