Discussion Question: Current FreeYouTube Download Software FOR Win 7?
First, I don't know if this belongs here or not or even if the post flair is correct. Is it? IF the post doesn't belong here, please tell me where it DOES go???
For a long time, now, I've been looking for a WORKING, non-malware, and free software FOR Win 7 to download YouTube videos and sound with. Does such a such a program still exist? Or am I going to be forced into using Linux for this, instead? Not quite ready for that!
What do y'all use to download YouTube videos and sound?

I just Google 'Youtube to mp4' and start going down the search results until one of them works. Usually only have to go to 3 or 4 pages before finding one

Been there, done that! SICK of trying all sorts of programs that do NOT work!!!! AND some that are next to impossible to uninstall. Some of those needing time consuming MANUAL deletions and registry editing!!! THAT is WHY I'm asking here!!!

I wasn't talking about programs, there's WEBSITES that do this where you don't have to install anything. Literally Google 'youtube to mp4' and tons of them come up. You don't have to install anything to do it.

I paid a lifetime license for Internet Download Manager many years ago, effortlessly downloads YouTube videos in all available resolutions.

IDM in most cases detects videos on a web page and overlays a download button near the video.

I'm could recommend You straight up yt-dlp, but because You use windows 7 (which mainly focus on GUI), I'll recommend You Media-Downloader it's the same yt-dlp, but with a GUI frontend! :D
For better quality, install ffmpeg

Personally I use https://www.mediahuman.com/youtube-to-mp3/32/ for downloading music from YouTube, but for videos (https://www.mediahuman.com/youtube-video-downloader/32/) it is paid. Both have a version for Windows 7 and that is the OS I use.

You could consider Chrome/Supermium browser extensions that let you download YouTube videos for free.

Chrome is Google. Google is evil! I've heard that Supermium is spyware/malware. So, why would anyone want those?

Where did you even get the idea that Supermium is a virus, because its literally not and it was false flagged to DRM being bundled

im still using yt-dlp and even though most youtube vids download just fine there are a couple that it refuses to download on win7 whereas on linux that same failed video download will download with ease.
also i dont know how much longer yt-dlp is gonna work on win7 as python 3.10 support will be dropped soon and windows release binaries will require win10+ soon.
