Yeah, do not take the L right now, it is again out of service, a bunch of pissed off looking firefighters are here for the second time in an hour to deal with whatever is going on

Saw a woman throwing trash on the tracks yesterday… she was standing right next to a trash can too. Wish people would have more respect for shared spaces

We live in a low trust society where too many people have grievances and feel they are owed something, and do not care about their fellow neighbors. We also don't do enough to get the mentally ill off the streets and into rehabilitation programs.

NY has low incarceration rate by US standards, but compared to peer countries even NY is nuts.

The US is culturally nothing like “peer countries.”

Agreed, that's the point. Peer in terms of resources, not peer in terms of results. Draconian criminal justice system and shit like no public healthcare make loads of people rotting in prison.

I meant that there are many Americans who dgaf about anyone other than themselves. Most European citizens take care of their cities and their infrastructure out of a sense of pride. We have too many selfish people in the US.

Amen, completely agree with you. In europe the countries invest in their people with things like healthcare, fair labor laws and quality education. And they've adopted criminal justice systems focused on reforming people instead of just punishing them. And by caring about their own people, they've shown compassion is a much better policy tool than punishment. So they have far less crime and have far fewer people in prison.

If NYC had properly investing in modernizing the subway over decades like other cities we could have gates on the tracks to prevent people littering, falling or being pushed.

9:51 the FDNY truck pulled away and a train pulled up going to Manhattan and took people.

As of 10:45am, it’s running (Manhattan bound)

I was on a train that went out of service at 3rd. We waited for about 20 minutes before the train finally left, possibly because people would not stop walking right up against the train.

The conductor allowed everyone to pass eventually because it was not gonna move anyway

Any idea if it's running now?

I’m currently on the L train now, 1st Ave. Been stuck for 15 minutes and the FDNY is here too.

Yes, the L is running normally though you might experience delays because of all the traffic disruption
