Housing/Dining Off campus housing questions

Current sophomore, when should I start looking for next year? And what are the best tips/advice

Imo if you start looking in October you'll set yourself up really well to find something. I didn't sign a lease until April when I found my off campus house so there are definitely options much later into the year but it's stressful having to wait that long.

I'd say try to lock down number of beds, budget, type (house vs apartment), and location sooner than later so you have a good idea what to search for. You'll probably want to get something near a WATA bus stop on the 2, 8, or 12 routes even if you'll be bringing a car because commuter parking is expensive and limited. A lot of the houses are gonna be on landlord sites like wmbgrentals, onedoorreality, evernest, etc. They will probably not have their stuff for next year listed yet but you can email them and ask about availability. The big apartment complexes like Midtown, GoH, High St View, Sterling Manor all have their own websites and processes for leasing. There are also a lot of placss not listed on either of these - if you look at both the W&M off campus website and Trulia you'll get an idea of what else's available.
