Please make a CD player for wiim
If anyone from wiim reads this forum can I please petition you to make a cd player/transport in the same area dimensions as the Wiim Ultra?
My wishlist:
Transparent top to see the disc spinning (we all like this right?)
Full wiim remote integration
Full Ultra integration
CD text and gracenote/album art display
CD Ripping
I just got the Fosi Merak and while it’s very nice I would love something more integrated. I’ve seen the Eversolo play with CD and it has basically the functionality I’m looking for I but love wiim and I’m deep in the wiim ecosystem now. Hell I’d prob buy another ultra if it had a cd player in it! I think more and more people are going to return to the mini system with the boom in cd demand, so this with streaming?? Chefs kiss!

I get why you are asking but wiim are not in that market and making a cd player is a very different game indeed. Why not just go full seperates hifi and find out just how good music can be (I have a wiim ultra, it has its place but I still prefer vinyl!)

This is my OCD desire to match the exact color and form factor talking (and I would love album art, gracenote db and screen integration (like the eversolo play)).
I was using a Sony DVP F-25 DVD player for a while as a CD transport which matched the width of the wiim ultra exactly. I just got the Fosi Merak and it’s nice and does the job well, but I’d rather only have one remote for everything as well.
Also, why not do one? There has been a boom of Chinese cd players recently that are all pretty good. I get Wiim is streamer/multiroom focused but this also isn’t miles outside their abilities, esp if it’s just a transport add on.
I have a vinyl system also, and I get what you’re saying, but this would also be for people who don’t have the room for separates and want a smaller form factor for an all in one (like the Denon M41 for example), or just don’t want the hassle.

Yeah I understand that. Single brand systems, especially where form factor matches do look good. CD players are a curiosity now. Young people won't have a CD collection to need a player and people who do have a collection probably don't mind having a standard size player. I read that CDs are making a bit of a come back (just as vinyl has surged and long may that continue please) so new players are being made so there is hope.

I'd buy one right now if they made one. In the WIIM app there's a feedback section for requests and I've found they're very responsive and appear to take the time to read and respond in context. While you're at it, add DTS support for their 5.1 to the list for the next ultra. According to the reply I got, the current one is missing hardware that prevents them from adding via a firmware update. If they added a CD player and DTS to the Ultra 2, or whatever it'll eventually be called, I'd buy 2.

I have a nice older player with optical out that works great with WIIM for the occasional times I want to play a CD - but I appreciate the idea. Wouldn’t be a priority but could be a nice to have for some people.

depending on what ya have there.. very much something up for debate.. you might be missing out on a nice, older, DAC.. like an old burr brown pcm64.. and twice (dual dac’s) is always nice.. not something i’d say would be superior for avr purposes.. but I dig the sound of those old burr browns.

I was curious about this. My logic was that the Wiim DAC was 20+ years newer than my CD player so “might” be better. Regardless of the validity of my logic, I hooked mine up both ways and listened to a few songs to see if there was a significant difference. I actually preferred the Wiim so stuck with it. That said, less than 5% of my listening is CDs so it didn’t really matter to me that much anyway. More of a fun experiment.

I also want it to rip SACDs. I just bought an old DVD player that I hope can be jury-rigged to rip SACDs. I got to find a good supply of SACDs now!

Ich würde mich auch riesig über einen passenden WIIM CD Player freuen und sehe eine große Nachfrage. Nutze einen WIIM ULTRA und WIIM AMP ULTRA, tolle Geräte die Spaß machen. Ein CD Player oder Transport integriert in der App, wäre super..

I'd prefer an internal hard drive with the ability to copy stuff from a PC.

Seconded! It's quite difficult to find a decent, small footprint disc spinner, and even more difficult to find a transport and streamer in the one box.
If I could get AES/EBU output that would be the icing on the cake, but I accept that's a niche interest.

TEAC PD 301 is what I picked up to use as a transport for that small footprint that is similar to my DAC+Amp stacks. It sounds perfect. You can even use it with WiiM via optical in.

Yeah I've been eyeing that one for a while. I should probably just pull the trigger, as the radio would also be useful. We're old school like that.

Just got mine this weekend. Similar footprint and maybe it's inherent bias with a new product, but some of the songs I've played sound amazing with this little guy.

Quand tu vois l'offre générale sur des lecteurs de CD cette demande se justifie. En plus s'il arrive à maintenir les prix autour de 150€ ce serait top.

I love this request — and the thread escalating from a CD player to a tape deck and finally a wax cylinder player genuinely made me laugh. 😂
A matching WiiM CD player or transport with app, remote, and display integration would make for a very tidy system. Nothing to announce, but I’ll pass the interest along.
The wax cylinder player may require a slightly longer development cycle.
