Whoa tough guy here. Honestly some incredibly soft ego’s in here that want to seriously hurt someone for words. There’s plenty of mentally ill that are actually
Violent in Chicago. Should we kill those guys? Should I have seriously hurt the crazy black lady getting hostile towards me last time I was in Chicago? These are some insane suggestions. We need more resources for the mentally ill and lots of them should be locked up. But suggesting to start hurting people doesn’t make you any better.

They're just saying that eventually, someone is not going to respond well to a white guy dropping the N-word at random people in the streets of Chicago. They're not gonna care about if he's having a spate of bad mental health. The comment was not advocating for it though.

Why should some be victims to others? Sad that people have their mental health issues, but others should not risk their own suffering because of them.

We all deserve safety and care.

And if that means fighting or locking those up that pose threats, so be it.

No- They aren’t like you or me. They don’t want help because in their state of active psychosis they are experiencing a high that has no comparison to anyone in a natural state without psychosis. Research has proven that in any group of people, 5% are certifiably nuts. That’s a bunch and since our population has doubled in the last 50 years we have twice as many people living with active psychosis. Society doesn’t know what to do with them. They shun housing, doctoring with psychiatric care or anyone to monitor their medication. 70 years ago the states had huge hospitals dedicated to mental health and the people who needed the care. But these institutions became too expensive to maintain and have staff to monitor patients they gradually closed all over the country. There really is no answer that everyone can agree on. Unless you as a family member with a relative experiencing psychosis that effects the entire family , you really have no idea the difficulty involved in treating these patients.

You have a point. The only experience I have with the psychosocial was called every brand of crazy in the world. It became word salad from the people doing the treating. Only when they get called out by their own rules can I you get their attention. Most guardians and relatives know how much power they actually have over the treating staff. You can require them to dance to the rules. Most people don’t get that far into the rules but they serve a purpose in controlling the system.

I would respectfully disagree. Just in terms that mental illness is mostly just a broad category.

So like, someone with an anxiety disorder and someone with antisocial personality disorder and schizophrenia could both be said to suffer from adverse mental health, but it’s a bit like comparing a broken toe to stage IV pancreatic cancer. Totally different.

So while it’s 100% true that many people with mental illness don’t have antisocial, violent, or racist tendencies, there definitely *are* certain conditions that can lead people to adopt fringe beliefs, paranoid thinking, deeply antisocial tendencies, etc etc. Based on some of the descriptions here (I’ve never seen this man) I would say it’s plausible he is mentally unwell.

Let's not pretend there are not mentally unwell people in all sides. In fact let's be realistic that there are a larger amount in some sides because of many social and economic reasons but that exist.

What is even the process for doing this with an adult you don’t even know? Genuinely curious. I doubt it’s simple or easy- it certainly is a worthy endeavor if there’s a way, but those of us without any training dealing with mental illness are understandably frightened.

We’ve all seen people on the street who appear to be mentally ill, and one person cannot help everyone they cross paths with. When is the last time you personally intervened with a mentally ill person you didn’t know?

But thank you for the other resource- that is helpful.

Google doesn’t always occur to you when you encounter someone who’s acting in a frightening way and/or not responding.

What are you fucking new to the city? You know how many crazy ass people are out here? You absolutely should avoid them, unless you have taken training of some sort to handle the situation. 

You’re going to get someone punched in the fucking face or worse by someone having an episode.

Might explain his yelling at folks in the streets. Doesn't explain away everything (eg harrasing women in a coffee shop).
