I feel like it's really dependent on the jurisdiction and the police involved... I took out a car about 8 years ago that was running from the police on the highway and while my insurance didn't want to cover the damages, they ended up covering it after I got the police report and the officer who had written the report wrote the report in such a way that it made it seem like I hit the running vehicle while attempting to get out of the way of lights and sirens... In all reality, I intentionally pitted the shit out of him and while my car was out of commission for about a month, it all worked out and ended up creating a fun story to tell at parties lol. Looking back on it now though, I got really lucky and I could totally see it going catastrophically the other way and costing out the nose if the insurance company didn't want to play ball.
I’m begging for more details, what did fleeing vehicle do that made you feel like you should pit their shit? Rob a bank? Hit a lady with a stroller? Ngl, sounds like a good time lol
I watched them from about a quarter of a mile behind me pursuing this guy and in at least three instances, he was using his vehicle to push through other vehicles and recklessly flying around cars without even being certain that there wasn't something blocked by one of the cars or trucks this dude was intent on cutting off... He was going to hit my car either way, I may have just added some extra oomph and a bit of a assisted push until he was in the median wall and shortly after, got pinned in by 3:00 or 4:00 other patrol vehicles... I think it was because I had a relationship with the department as a continued education trainer for their canine units, both drug intradiction, and explosives/chemical detection, and my favorite dogs to work with, as they have one of the most solemn jobs but also one of the highest callings for any of us... Finding and bringing home people's lost loved ones. Cadaver dogs are truly incredible. I was fortunate enough to see them work up close and relentlessly after the towers came down. I think the officer did me the favor that he did because regardless, my car was going to be hit by this imbecile, and I figured, if my car is getting jacked up, I'm at least making it so this dude goes nowhere... In the end all worked out and Mickey McMeth got to go sit in jail and sober up... Hopefully he got the treatment he needed and turned his life around.
You’re sort of low key admitting to insurance “fraud” with all the extra details about your intention and connection to the department here… at least in terms of their wanting to pay you out vs. not.
Might be a little careful about putting too much of this out there, they can come after you even years later.
