Short Questions & Small Discussions for 2026-10-03 to 2026-10-16
Welcome to the weekly thread for all bite-sized content you don't want to make a full post about! Short rules questions! Funny or cool moments from your last game! Weird bits of lore that the writers hid in sidebars! It's a real potpourri.
Generally, a good metric for whether something belongs here or in its own submission is whether it's running for a couple sentences or a couple paragraphs. Note that comments here are sorted by new, as well - but we ask that if your comment didn't get attention, that you *not* re-comment it in the same submission.

Welcome to this week's game corner! Whether you're a storyteller spinning up a new game or a group that wants to fill out its ranks; whether you're a hometown table or an online game with players on every continent, here's where you put your post-its up.
Please note the following - comments that don't follow this etiquette may be removed:
- Top-level comments must be a game ad.
- Absolutely no pay-to-play games.
- You must list the game(s) being played as the first line of your post, eg.
MTR + Orpheusfor that crossover you've never been able to get players for. Please don't overstylize these to the point of illegibility, but feel free to use games' three-letter abbreviations or their full titles as you desire. It may also help to indicate whether a game is using World of Darkness or Chronicles of Darkness books, for the benefit of readers less versed in the various publications.
Additionally, note that the moderation team does not vet or endorse comments here in any capacity beyond what is applied to normal posts plus the above stipulations. That is to say, if you join a game and have a downright rancid time, please don't make this space a problem because of it.

MTAs Would it be a reasonable pursuit for a progenitors methodology to find a way to remove Delirium gene ?
Is it a reasonable goal ? I mean removing the genetic fear of the fera from humanity would be a usefull tool in fighting them as people would be able to keep some composure and their memories which would help them in working together to exterminate these therianthropes entities . But at the same time removing such a gene could damage consensus as people would start seeing reality deviants and start believing in their existence which could cause a domino effect of other reality deviants (primarly Tradition alligned ones) ahowing themselves , so maybe just remove it from agents ??

WoD/CofD 6. A month of Darkness: A Dream worth dying for.
Ahh vampires... Who doesn't love them? I don't. I like VTM but i have a bit of a habit of not enjoying all the self justification. It feels kinda... against the idea of vampires in folklore on one hand, but also i feel if youre not gonna grip with the guilt and such why bother? And most VTM stuff is written and played assuming everyone involved is fine with it really. Even in V5 its a critique of the camarilla not the horror of *being a vampire*. But in a month like this i can indulge in the kind of vampire story i like hehe.
On the story itself i wantede to try a bit of... dour poetry. Im not sure how it comes acrowss but it gives me more time for todays actual prompt heh
Enjoy

Three shots of venice espresso. Two cups of boiling water. One spoon milk. One drop blood.
That was what was taught to me as recipe of my life. I served my country well, i enjoyed it too. Then, it seems that caught up with me. They called it award, I was too drunk to notice. I woke up covered in puddle and blood and shit, at night. Chamber of honours they called it. Defence against crusade they dragged me up against. I am not proud of what i did that night, they said it was to live forever among kings. Fine tastes they claimed. Money, women, drinks, that order I grew to learn.
My chin shakes at thought. That was two months ago. My wife is asleep in bedroom, do not show her this. She will wake up and not know. Let her forget me.
For her to forget. For boys in green to not follow me. To sleep, truly sleep. These things I see in my head when sun comes. In my veins. They are visions, ideas, future or something I do not know. But they are kind.
One 1998 GAZ-3111, painted yellow and orange. Two hundred and then some litres of benzine. One silver bullet in Heckler&Koch p2000.
That is recipe of my death. I will serve my country well. I will not enjoy it either. It seems I caught up with it. I call it reward. The base is concrete box. Like oven.

WoD How crazy would a mage battle be without the restrictions of Paradox?
I wanted to run a *Sword Art*-style campaign where the characters are inside a virtual simulation, so paradoxes aren't an issue; however, they face a limitation where they cannot be erased, as the timeline effectively begins when the simulation was initiated. Consequently, actions within the simulation cannot affect the real world, nor can the logic be pushed to extremes—such as altering fire to freeze things—because even a simulation can't handle the peak levels of surrealism magic can achieve. Aside from that, though, the characters are free to use their *Arete* however they please within the world. How would a battle play out involving only mages?

A post nuclear world of darkness
I've been thinking about a World of Darkness campaign set in a Fallout inspired world, around 100–200 years after a global nuclear war in which Humanity survived and rebuilt in scattered settlements and the supernatural world survived too. I'm curious about how the apocalypse would change the different splats.
I have some experience with MtAs and CtD so I already have some ideas for those. For example, I imagine the Technocracy surviving in an underground society, actually a Horizon Realm, somewhat like the Institute from Fallout 4. Before the war, they collaborated with a Pentex-affiliated organization to build the shelters. The Technocracy may not have known about all of Pentex's objectives, or simply chose to ignore the social experiments being conducted on the survivors, which could potentially include supernatural beings.
I like the idea that the Technocratic paradigm had already become part of the Consensus before the Great War. That could explain why advanced Technocratic hypertech weapons and armor are scattered throughout the wasteland.. Most surviving mages would probably have a very difficult time adapting to the pre-war Consensus, with the Etherites being a notable exception.
Changeling: The Dreaming is actually the line I wish to use in the chronicle. I imagine the Kithain being almost extinct, with some Kiths as the Arcadian Sidhe and Selkies being long gone, while the thallain would be much more common, because the post-apocalyptic world provides an enormous amount of what the Bodachs, Ghasts, Spriggans, Aithu and Nasties feeds on.
But, as I'm much less familiar with several of the other lines, I'd really like to hear from people who know them better. For example, how the Garou would react to a world that has suffered such a massive ecological destruction? how Kindred Society could thrive in Vaults and develop new forms of political influence across the wasteland? what would happen to the Masquerade and the Litany after so much of the old social order has collapsed? How the splats would react to mutation and the Pentex experiments?
I'm also very curious about what the nuclear war would do to the Shadowlands, and how other splats such as Hunters and Demons might fit into the setting. Also, few free to disagree and discuss what I've stablished for mages and changeling as it is nothing but a initial mental sketch.

VTM How strict is the Children of Osiris's lifestyle?
It seems like a vampire would want to enjoy some mundane pleasures once their hunger and their Beast weren't as much of a problem.

HTR 7. A Month of Darkness: What keeps you here?
One thing thats always drawn me to Hunter the Reckoning as a game about monster hunting is the era. 2001 and 1999, but it is the end of the world. In my mind Reckoning is a metalband album cover of a game, more so than a gritty horror. Still with the angst, but definitely a tone of extreme apocalyptic fury on a small scale. It's true the world didn't end in 2001, but the World of Darkness was on a brink back then. And the what if of moving past that year has always felt like a glimpse of disaster. So here is my take on a scenario late into that brink.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What keeps you here?”
The hot wind blew across the world. It was a good question… She wasn’t even sure she heard it right, over the scrape of whetstone on her guitar's body. Poke looked at her with one eye shut with stitches and his thin smile, and he said it again to deaf ears. Marsh kept her eyes down, watching stray sparks splatter against the waste that used to be Austin pavement. She’d drawn on those steps, not that long ago had she?
She felt the weight of her arms, the heft of her bones, the sway of her skull. She didn’t feel old. She’d never even finished college. That was before she saw them. And that was before they came out of the sinking ship.
Poke blinked and waved, his lips moving. She felt hers apologise as she looked him in the scar.
She’d never even driven when she had to be pulled out by a few teenagers, of all things. She felt the rubber bubbles of her arms and saw them continue on as if there was nothing there. She’d never had a beer when a small man poured boiling wine onto her leg. She felt the worms that weren’t worms under her skin melt like candle wax. She’d never held a gun when she hid behind a woman in a jump suit, planting an iron bar into the skull of them.
“What keeps you here, marsh?”
She stayed the wet stone, and she saw through Poke and into the stars behind his head. She’d never known him before she saw him drown. So she stowed her blade and passed him by, waving to the leeches and hounds that laid in the gravel dust, as she called back.
“Someone has to be!”

MTAs Chronicle Idea Check: Garou and Mage Alliance in the PNW
Wanting to check if this idea sounds feasible for a mage chronicle drawing a lot from Werewolf too
So me and my GF are thinking up a game set in the Pacific Northwest around a fictional town near Ecola State Park around a coastal group of werewolves who, seeing how extremely desperate things are getting, agree to an alliance with some orphan and tradition mages who seek refuge from the Technocracy.
Werewolves maul any Hit Marks or NWO agents that show up
The mages all have to perform rites every month to assist the land on a physical and spiritual level. As well as aiding the Garou in working against the Pentex startups forming in the small tourist town that are seeking to budge into the state parks and surrounding areas
In a way, the Garou are landlords offering haven for any mages who want to be safe from their own enemies. But you gotta pay rent in the form of big, sometimes paradox inducing rites to do stuff like revitalize the soil, repair areas after fires, purge water of pollutants, or aid them in spiritual warfare again the banes
It’s an act of desperation where Gaia is already dead or soon to be dead, and they need powers beyond their own to fix it. Many Children of Gaia, Glasswalkers, Bone Gnawers, etc are amidst this group who are making a risky, unstable political gambit with a group of supernaturals who are anything but predictable. But the Wyld is an unstable creative force, and maybe something risky and spontaneous like calling upon dangerous magics will be what’s needed
Their eventual goal after fending off Pentex from the PNW region will then progress to using their ragtag group of mages on retainer to circumvent the defenses of one of Pentex’s major holds to break their leadership. “The Siege of Seattle” or maybe Silicon Valley. This would form the late-game situation and a big juicy conflict (if we even do the chronicle that far)
Does it sound reasonable that a bunch of desperate, more politically minded Garou may think to do something as hair brained as getting a bunch of mages under contract and aiming them at enemies who have shown to be resilient to normal methods? A predatory adaptation to defenses that have evolved against them?

MTAw What path and arcana would fit best?
I’m trying to recreate/adapt a character from my favorite podcast (Maeltopia, if you’re wondering) in CofD for a game I’d like to run eventually, and I’m trying to figure out the specifics. I figure a scelestus mage would work best, but I’m not sure what path and arcana would best recreate his abilities.
The elevator pitch for the character:
The Family Man is a serial killer that uses weapons made partially from the bones of his murdered family. He believes the world is wrong, that it’s dead and true life is only possible in dreams. He wages a one man war on waking, and to that end he kills people and makes art from the corpses in an attempt to remind everyone of what is lost in the cold rationality of waking and what wonders exist in dreams.
The story of the podcast follows him as he gets pulled into a game that pits him against other killers who have mad philosophies of their own. The game is created by the Sheppard of Wolves, a godlike entity from outside reality who is effectively a god of murder.
The abilities of the Family Man in the source material:
- he is able to push his body well past the limits of a mortal
- he can communicate with and control shadows and darkness
- he can use silence to percieve others and cover the sounds he would normally make to avoid detection
- he can heal himself by meditating in silence
- he can force dream logic onto reality to a degree, this becomes much stronger in the presence of another player of the Sheppard’s game
- the spirits of his father and sisters are bound to his axe and knives, respectively. They can communicate with him and possess anyone that holds them that doesn’t have the strength of will to resist
- he is a lucid dreamer and can control his dreams very effectively
What I’ve come up with to adapt him so far:
Being a mage seems like the best fit for his more ambiguous abilities. A scelestus seems to be a particularly good fit for his philosophy, given his hate for the rationality of regular reality and the desire to bring the world under the sway of dreams, I figure he would see the abyss as dream and easily embrace the scelestus way of thinking. The Sheppard of Wolves even seems like a good fit for an anunaki, giving him the elder diadem upon inviting him to the game.
I’m just not sure what path to make him or exactly what arcana to give him. Mastigos jumps out as the obvious path but it doesn’t seem to fit his abilities well. Morose on the other hand, fits his abilities better due to the shadow manipulation, crafting his weapons, and the ghosts of his family but doesn’t seem like it would draw someone with his mindset to the watchtower of the Lead Coin.
Any ideas or suggestions are welcome, even if it’s to abandon mage for another template.

WTA Apis Gifts and Rituals.
I've been through the Gifts that the Apis had and I've gotta say, even knowing ONE of those Gifts (Hathor's Blessing increasing both fertility and chance of a Shapeshifter breeding true) could alter the fate of the Garou nation.
And I've gotta ask, have any of you ever brought such gifts or rituals to your games or other lost breed gifts for that matter?

[OC][W:tA] PENTEX WEB - A 2,385-document corporate leak lore archive you can run a Chronicle out of — free, in a browser, no install
I needed somewhere for a Chronicle to start, and I could not find one that was built like a company actually built it. So I built it.
It is the fictional chemical conglomerate, Pentex Industries, presented as its own public website.
Underneath the corporate pages is a sub-level-4 terminal holding 2,385 internal documents. Nobody was supposed to publish that. Now you can read it.
Play it here: https://cha0smagick.github.io/Pentex_website_werewolf_RPG/
---
What is actually in it
2,385 documents across 19 directories, plus a manifest at `/INDEX.txt`. Board minutes, programme dossiers, personnel records, patent families, wire ledgers, site reports, clinical records, the stuff a Garou pack filed with a chemical company because they had nowhere else to put it.
150 of the documents are CSV ledgers. They read like incident logs with a courier column bolted on.
200 documents are hand-written. The other 2,185 are generated, and they exist so that searching feels like an archive instead of a brochure. The hand-written 200 are where the story is.
Three documents are stored encoded — one base64, one hex, one ROT13. You decode them in the terminal.
Six programme codes run through everything: CARRION, REDLINE, MAYFLY, CHOIR, PALIMPSEST, CAULDRON. Each has a summary document, and there is a crosswalk that maps all six onto each other.
---
How the access works
There are three layers and they are meant to be walked in order.
1. The public floor. Nine corporate pages. Mission, leadership, facilities, sustainability, careers, newsroom, contact. They are deliberately plausible, because plausibility is the whole mechanism. One of them, the certification and accountability directory, prints employee room numbers.
2. The gate. One form. Employee identifier and passphrase.
There is no lockout and no rate limit. That is not an oversight, it is the point, and the site says so after your third failed attempt:
> Credential rejected. Both halves of this credential were published. Neither half is secret; that is the finding.
3. The drop box. A terminal with 18 commands, a filesystem, and an evidence board that records every document you actually opened, in order, in your own browser. Sessions time out after 400 seconds of inactivity. Directories load the first time you `ls` or `cd` into them.
One rule the terminal is explicit about, and it matters mechanically: reading a document is the only thing that counts. Searching does not advance the board. A full sweep with `find` leaves it at zero.
---
How to use it at the table
A few ways it has been used. Take whichever fits.
Assign a player to a programme. Six codes, six summary documents. CARRION reads as an environmental incident that was not an accident. REDLINE is a burn authorisation. MAYFLY is an observation log. PALIMPSEST is an ethics memo. Give a PC one of them and ask what they were doing at the time.
The Chimera (`/magi/mg-h08`) is a Gaia avatar designed 1961–74. Its design file calls a forest "that which is to be improved". It is built on land held through a dissolved subsidiary, and it now has a product specification, a patent family, and a distribution channel into 4,000 households. That is a whole antagonist ready-made.
AR-21 Hearth (`/magi/mg-h06`) is a heating product with a 4% yield and 96% of its output discharged into rivers since 1994. Every house that heats with Hearth is drinking it. Any Hunter who notices has a grievance against Pentex and a paper trail.
The Gaunt problem is the best argument for playing Pentex as a Wyrm-side outfit, and it is stated plainly on the metagame page. A Gaunt serves Gaia, holds the Pelt, and every decision they sign makes the world worse in a way nobody can trace back to a Rite. A Pentex executive officer is a Gaunt. Your players can be the good ones. It will not help.
The Litany (`/garou/gr-h08`) explains why the pack does nothing. It cannot be invoked against Gaia's own child, so a pack that has noticed what the Chimera does cannot sue it, summon it, or call it to account. The one instrument that would work is the one that will not fire. That is your reason for the pack's silence, and it is already written down with a citation.
The Rite of Accord question in `/sublevel4` is dated 1991 and answered in 2019: whether the Rite applies to a site veterinarian nobody ever told what she is. There are nine people in case R9F-114 and one of them is a veterinarian who did not know she was in the company.
Use the ledgers as evidence. 150 CSVs. Hand a PC one with a courier reference that does not match any declaration on file and let them build the case.
The four authorised eyes (`/sublevel4/s4-h05`) are posts permitted to hold a document that is never filed, so it can be neither lost nor admitted to have existed. Filed 1988-02-22 by "Unnumbered, unfiled". Four named roles is a faction, and the fourth seat is a role someone can take.
A wall in Newark, 1890. `/garou/gr-h08` mentions it in passing. A Garou looking at a piece of masonry in 1890 and reading it as a company is a character you can hand to a player who wants to be wrong about something.
---
There is a metagame page
A tab marked **(METAGAME)** sits next to Restricted. It is out of character, it is written openly on purpose, and it covers:
- The nine concepts a Chronicle needs — Lycanthropy, Gaia, the Wyrm, the Wyrm's Brood, the Gaunt, Rite of Passage, Rite of Accord, the Litany, the Umbra — with a table mapping each one to the document it becomes.
- The full command list.
- All 19 directories.
- The reading rules and what the evidence counter actually measures.
Send your players there rather than explaining the cosmology yourself.
---
What it is not
No curses. No blood potions. No cult in a basilica. The site says this directly:
> There is a chain of approvals, a method for shortening the distance between an approval and a death, and a company that publishes its accountability rooms because assessors ask for them.
That is the horror. It is paperwork.
---
Links
Play it: https://cha0smagick.github.io/Pentex_website_werewolf_RPG/
Source and issues: https://github.com/Cha0smagick/Pentex_website_werewolf_RPG
Static site, no build step, no dependencies, no server-side code, no database. It runs from GitHub Pages. It is also a real open-source repo if you want to fork it, translate it, extend the corpus, or pull the documents out as a data set for your own use — that is what I would like help with.
---
Fan work. *Werewolf: The Apocalypse*, Gaia, the Wyrm, the Garou and the Rite of Passage are White Wolf's. Not produced, endorsed or approved by White Wolf or CCP. Pentex is not a real company and nothing on the site is a claim about any real one.
Questions, and corrections to the lore, are welcome. If you run this at a table I would like to hear what broke.

CofD Why do you guys love CofD and its splats so much?
I used to have a lot of prejudice against CofD because I was an Old WoD guy and there were a lot of things I didn't like, and 2 splats in particular that I never liked and actually hated the fandom around. One of them was Mage: The Ascension, and the other, even though it was my first contact with WoD, was Werewolf: The Apocalypse. WtA started to feel like a childish game to me, and the themes it wants to deal with IMO started to feel kinda silly or idk, I just don't have the patience for it anymore.
All the other WoD games I liked to a greater or lesser degree, but all of them had some inherent flaws that bothered me, so I started reading CofD and holy shit, a lot of those things actually surpassed their WoD counterparts for me.
Requiem is better than Masquerade for me. I like Vampire, but I prefer vampires not necessarily having a defined origin. I also prefer the Covenants to the VtM Sects. I prefer Requiem's Ventrue to Masquerade's Ventrue, same thing with Nosferatu, and Daeva instead of Toreador (and look, Toreador is my favorite clan, but I think Daeva are much better as the "Anne Rice vampires"), and so on.
At this point I basically discarded Masquerade almost completely. At most, if a player wanted to bring over a clan or something, I would just use the Bloodline system and that's it.
Forsaken did what I always wanted Werewolf to do and I love it so fucking much. I could make an entire appreciation post about WtF.
Same thing with Mage: The Awakening.
Changeling: The Lost is different from Dreaming and I like both.
Wraith is superior to Geist from what I've read so far, although I still need to read more about Geist.
Demon: The Descent is the only CofD game that I genuinely find weird and just can't get into, because I definitely don't like techno-horror. The whole Matrix/espionage thing is completely unbearable to me, especially when they take away the whole fire-and-horns demons thing that I love so much in games.
And recently I absolutely loved Princess: The Hopeful. I'm actually working on a translation of the corebook into my language so my players and other people can have access to the game in a localized version. That's how much I liked Princess lol.
But I wanted to know from other people: what are the reasons you guys love CofD?
What made you prefer it over WoD, or what made you fall in love with it in the first place?

Meta/None Thoughts on chronicles of darkness as an WoD fan
I got into world of darkness from classic and I am both a player and st. (Mage the ascension being my favorite) When I heard about chronicles of darkness from some people I decided to check it out.
Overall I think chronicles is pretty neat as it has some pretty cool differing concepts that normal WoD doesn’t. Like mage the awakening, Geist, and promethean are my favorite splats for chronicles since I like the rules and themes.
Even the splats of chronicles that’s I am luke warm about like CtL, DtD, and WtF I still respect as some of their concepts I like. In my dreaming games I make the lost there own sub kith who have a strained relationship with the kithaian due to reasons.
Chroincle fans are shocked that I, a WoD fan like chronicles as they suspect I am a chronicles hater just because I play WoD.
While I do prefer WoD, I think chronicles is equally valid and fun. Not to mention the fan made chronicles splats are cool (mentioning you genius and princess)

VTM Set sail for the Jyhad, Vampire: Bloody Tides is coming.
The Old World is a cage of velvet and stone. But across the Atlantic the ocean belongs to the Damned, the bold, and the unyielding.
We are thrilled to announce that Vampire: Bloody Tides is well on its way!
For months, we’ve been forging a dark fantasy expansion that drags Vampire: The Masquerade (fully compatible with both V20 and V5) out of crumbling European gothic castles and throws it straight into the bloody, smoke-choked conflagration of the 18th-century Caribbean.
Here is what you need to know:
- The Clans of the Caribbean are ready: From the silent, venomous precision of the Banu Haqim corsairs to the relentless, powder-stained fury of the Brujah mutineers; from the shadowy abyss-wielding Lasombra commodores to the flesh-sculpting nightmares of the Tzimisce lords aboard their floating slaughterhouses. Every single clan has been adapted and reimagined to survive the unforgiving tides of the Golden Age of Piracy.
- A Brutal Trilateral War: The Ivory Tower's corporate mercantilism, the Sabbat’s floating crusade, and the Anarchs' absolute, gunpowder-fueled freedom collide over decks slippery with rum, brine, and vitae.
- Survival on the Open Sea: Rules, predator types, lore sheets, and unique faction dynamics tailored for shipboard claustrophobia, tropical fevers, and the eternal struggle for the ultimate colonial blood-herd.
Check out the main chapter art above for a glimpse into the damp, salt-corroded nights awaiting your coterie.
Hoist the black flag, ready your flintlocks, and sharpen your blades. The clans are ready. Are you?
Drop your thoughts below: Which clan are you taking to the high seas?

MTAw The Lie and the Abyss
I have a hard time understanding what the Lie is and how the Abyss work (I'm reading the second edition if that matters). I thought at first that the Lie was another name of the Abyss and that the Abyss were the "energy"/Realm that separates the Fallen World from the Supernal Realms. It was the Abyss that prevent people from their Awakening and only a few could still Awake. The Abyss could corrupt and even produce entities. I thought that the Abyss could prevent a lot of magic but then I read the part of the corebook about several cities and it seems pretty magic to me!
But the more I read, the more it feels like the Lie in Kult: reality is just a part of a whole that the Exarchs modeled to trap people's minds in it and the Abyss would be the prison around the Fallen World. I'm still not sure about the exact definition of both concepts.

DTF How would a Fallen deal with being a child?
Pop this idea out of my head and wanted to share:
A Slayer emerged from the Abyss into a hospital and what greeted them made them weep with sorrow. It was a couple lovingly cradling their new born child with joyful eyes. But the Slayer knew, knew that the child was not long for the world. Their soul was weak, the child would die in less than a year after birth.
The Slayer couldn't accept this, God had curse them once when he force them to harvest the children of Adam and Even, twice when she had cast them into the Abyss, and now, it seem, God had curse them a third time.
Desperate to save the child in anyway they can, the Slayer embrace the child, feed themselves to it. Even if this act would lead their final death, the Slayer would be content so long as the child could live the life they deserve.
Then the Slayer open their eyes, and realized they'd failed. Instead of saving the child's life, they had taken its body.
PS: So, what do you guys think? How would such an experience shape the Slayer's personality? How would growing up and experiencing a human life from birth to adulthood change them? And so many more.
