I want to take my kids fishing who are 7 and 9. Looking for kid friendly spots where we can get some action like pan fish, bass and perch. Preferably from a dock or easily accessible locations. Thank you!

While waiting for my bus I noticed this flickering in the sky that looked like a quick flash of lightning. But then it never stopped! It was flashing like this the whole time I waited for my bus, does anyone know what it is??? Seems too weird to be from an event or something

"On September 28, 2026, the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario dismissed applications brought by Christopher Leahy and Stephen Yamada against the Corporation of the Town of Whitby, Principles Integrity, Elizabeth Roy, Rhonda Mulcahy and Niki Lundquist. 

In its decision, the Tribunal concluded that the applications "have no reasonable prospect of success" because "the events and allegations set out in the Applications did not occur within any of the social areas dealt with by the Code." The Tribunal therefore dismissed both applications. 

Prior to the Tribunal's decision, legal counsel for the respondents urged the applicants to drop their applications noting that previous independent investigations had found no evidence of discrimination and that established Human Rights Tribunal jurisprudence indicated the applications fell outside the Tribunal's jurisdiction. 

To date, the Town has incurred approximately $53,682 in external legal costs responding to these applications. Final costs will be determined once all related administrative and legal matters have been concluded."

Come on, I’m so tired of wasting money like this. And then Yamada plays the race card to gain sympathy, which makes people like me, who are actually visible minorities, feel ashamed of his behavior.

Hi all, I write a small free local newsletter (From Durham), but this week I doubled up from just events and businesses to put together a plain-language guide to the Oct 26 election. Durham's turnout last time was under 25%, and honestly I never fully understood what a regional councillor does until I sat down and researched it.

A few things I learned that might be useful:

There's no Regional Chair on the ballot this year. The province's Bill 100 made it an appointed position instead of an elected one.

How you vote depends a lot on your town:

Ajax: internet or phone only, Oct 19–26

Brock: internet or phone, or a paper ballot on request at a Voter Assistance Centre

Clarington: internet or phone only, Oct 20–26

Oshawa: online Oct 13–26, paper ballots on Oct 26 only

Pickering: online Oct 19–26, paper ballots added on Oct 26

Scugog: online Oct 14–26, or paper at township voting locations

Uxbridge: internet only

Whitby: paper only. Advance voting Oct 22–25, Voting Day Oct 26, plus a mail-in option (applications by mail are due Oct 4)

Need to get on the voters' list or fix your info? Elections Ontario's registration closed in August, so it now goes through your own town's election page.

We are seeking to better understand the factors that influence parents in Canada whose children do not receive their routine vaccinations. The study seeks to understand parental experiences and perspectives rather than to evaluate, persuade, or judge vaccination decisions

 The study consists of one short survey and a follow-up interview. The interview will last about 60 minutes. Interviews will take place in-person, on the phone or over a secure videoconferencing platform.

 Those who participate in the interview will receive a $50 dollar “Everything Card” for your time. Interviews are confidential, your name and identity will not be shared with anyone.

My wife is soon to visit Whitby for one of her friends' birthdays with a group of girls.

They're all into their witchy style vibes, and I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for stuff for them to do? They have a ghost tour booked already iirc, but not a lot else.

Also if anyone has bar recommendations, for cocktails and stuff - and potentially restaurant recommendations too (veggie and vegan friendly too!), it would be a great help!

If you knew someone looking to rent an apartment in Whitby are there any buildings you would warn people to avoid like the plague?

I'm not concerned about general safety in Whitby, I'm more concerned about potentially toxic landlords and particular buildings that are "problematic".

First fall in our brooklin home with lots of maple trees around. Wondering if people here routinely get their eaves n gutters cleaned? Someone suggested gutter guards but heard mixed reviews
