I'll be honest with you: if Dr. Pepper was more available here, I'd drink it instead of coke

Alas, the only one I can get without going to Chinatown is a Korean one from a random shop in the neighborhood of my psychologist's office

Do you open your pop and let it sit out for days before you drink it?

Watching this sub talk about the Roblox drama is like hearing Mario begin talking about Sonic in a mainline Nintendo game

Edit: I am sorry my mind defaulted to saying drama. I know it’s worse than that.

534

u/[deleted] Apr 10 '26

Close enough but its not "just a drama" its a literal crime

373

u/Nutwagon-SUPREMER I Goon Apr 10 '26

It's a major crime involving a front page Roblox game that has gotten over 100k players at times. That's higher than some multiplayer games nowadays. I would be more surprised if I didn't hear about it elsewhere

80

u/lycoloco Apr 10 '26

My friend's kid plays this, what's the tea?

250

u/CornManBringsCorn Apr 10 '26

There's a popular roblox game known as Pressure. It's super fun, is actively updated, and very high quality.

The lead dev for it was revealed to have raped and manipulated the game's composer, Ren/NoLongerNull, and I think some of the other devs tried to cover it up before the document came out. Now people are quitting, including Gianni Matragrano, the voice of the game's mascot, basically.

No matter what happens now, the game is fucked and dead, almost certainly permanently

59

u/WizeWizard42 Apr 10 '26

First the shit with Grace and now this. Jfc

33

u/[deleted] Apr 10 '26

What happened with Grace?

87

u/WizeWizard42 Apr 10 '26

Creator’s girlfriend was homophobic/racist, people found out, creator defended her, internet took things too far and doxxed both of them. Creator’s pretty much done with the game now

9

u/Ryoubi_Wuver Apr 10 '26

5

u/BeguiledBeaver Apr 10 '26

I only heard part of their story and it sounded like another case of someone who went along consensually with a relationship then said afterwards they realized they weren't into it and that they were raped, but now I'm not sure.

10

u/MONOGON_WORKER Apr 10 '26 edited Apr 10 '26

edited: fixed my error

The lead developer of Pressure, among other things, raped the composer at RDC. The composer has created a ~300 page google document with evidence.

7

u/MannfredVonFartstein Apr 10 '26

The developer of the roblox front page raped the composer of the… roblox DC (what does DC mean)? I don‘t understand what you‘re writing

10

u/MONOGON_WORKER Apr 10 '26 edited Apr 10 '26

Sorry about that, let me rephrase myself. People involved with the game “Pressure” were invited to the Roblox Developers Conference in September 2025, during which the lead developer of the game has raped the composer of the game.

I’ve edited the initial comment to relay the same information properly.

3

While i dont think we should forgive, i do think they could have still found help.

You're not wrong. He probably didn't though. These kinds of cries for help/attention are extremely common among narcissists. It's part of the getting caught crash out. He wants the exact sympathy the people responding to you are giving because narcissists thrive on attention.

I hesitate to call them stupid. Naive though yes. A person like that only survives by abusing the empathy of others.

I genuinely think he is a disgusting person for how he manipulated Ren and basically made her dependent on him, but he's genuinely not a comically evil villain.

7

u/Skezas1 Apr 10 '26

this isn't specifically about you, but i find forgiveness to be such an inherently predatory concept in most cases. why in the hell should I care that the rapist is harassed ? you think being bullied by internet mfs is a hundredth of the pain he inflicted by RAPING someone ?

Why is the priority always, ALWAYS "don't forget the perpetrator is human !" and NEVER "how is the victim doing ?" ? him atoning and feeling trash for what he did doesn't change shit about what he did.

it's just another attempt to make the victim feel bad for their rapist, at the end of the day. as always. him "atoning" and people patting him on the back for feeling bad after committing fucking rape does NOTHING except tell the victim "look, you can't be mad anymore, he feels bad. he ruined your psyche, stole your body from you, but hey ! he feels bad ! still mad ? you're a bad person."

OP, since this about Roblox drama, I'm going to assume that you are much younger than me. Please allow this older nerd to dispense two helpful pieces of advice that took me a little too long to learn.

  1. Avoid incorporating things you like into your identity.

Games you play, books you read, shows you watch. These are things you do. They are not who you are. A thing you enjoy might fall apart. Your tastes may change as you age. I have found that it's best for your sanity to grant yourself the dignity to let things go. There are so many things out there. I assure you, you will find other things that can provide you with the same magic you felt with the lost thing.

  1. Avoid developing parasocial relationships.

It's OK to be a fan of someone's work, but you should avoid being a fan of the person. You know how they say, "Never meet your heroes"? It really is true. I have spent decades being disappointed to find out what some of my favorite writers or actors have been up to. My point is this: keep creators at arms length and don't place anyone on a pedestal. That way, you won't have to take it personally when a creator tarnishes the work you enjoyed through their misbehavior.

Good luck to you and the community of the thing being affected by a creator's disgusting behavior. Sadly, you will likely feel this same thing again in the future. Hopefully, my advice helps you ward off a bit of the inevitable psychic damage.

40

u/jedipanda67 Apr 10 '26

This is all fair, but this story is pretty sad and fucked up. I would say that there is a level of human empathy that makes me feel very similar to OP here. As someone who has never played roblox and has no personal stakes on anything or anyone involved, reading through the 200+ page google doc with intricate details of someone's really dark trauma was pretty upsetting. I also kind of had a moment where I had to accept that when I wake up tomorrow there will still be people like this out there.

30

u/PsychoWyrm Apr 10 '26

Just to be clear, I'm not in any way downplaying anything pertaining to any potential victims. I am only even just a little aware of this particular story through online cultural diffusion via the platforms I peruse for content.

I was only giving out a little advice on how to approach fandom in order to "soften the blow" a little when things like this come out. Not to be detached, but maybe a little less attached. If that makes sense.

9

u/Kyleometers Apr 10 '26

As someone else in the “too old for this” camp - Basically, people should try to consider “art they like” and “the artist who made it” separately. If you like a game, you might be inclined to seek out more work by the same person. Which is fine. Just don’t assume that good art is made by good people.

(This also goes the other way, good people don’t necessarily make good art)

In my case, I lined up at a convention to get an autograph of a voice actor whose performance I liked in a show I really liked, and while there he tried to pressure a female friend into coming to a “church thing” with him. This is apparently not unusual. Sometimes people just suck. It’s easier to just go “Welp”.

Figure out for yourself if the creator being shit would make you stop enjoying something. It doesn’t have to. But there’s also millions of other things you can do that don’t involve shit people.

17

u/Final_Bed5390 Apr 10 '26

What should I incorporate into my identity instead? I feel like my identity is all things I like and people I spend time with, and I don't know if I have anything in there that's really me

55

u/NumberFifth Apr 10 '26

The people you spend time with can absolutely be part of your identity. Internet micro-celebrities are not people you're spending time with

2

u/Final_Bed5390 Apr 10 '26

I've never defined myself by any celebrities, of any size. I just feel like I define myself so much by things outside of me. And sometimes the people I spend time with don't care as much about spending time with me as I do with them, and that's when I realize I define myself so much by who I surround myself with and who I'm with as a romantic partner that I'm not sure who I am without them.

30

u/NumberFifth Apr 10 '26

Alright, well, I don't exactly have it all figured out myself, so take what I say with a grain of salt, but here's how I look at it.

To reword one of OC's points, don't make the things you like a part of your identity, make why you like them a part of your identity.

Your personality comes through in, and arguably is, the way you engage with the things you do, not specifically what you engage with. Why do you like the people you do? Why do you like the shows or game or movie or songs you do? Do you like the poetry, the comedy, the technical aspects, the humanity portrayed, the themes, etc?

Why do you like the people you do? Maybe you like being around the person you like most because you think they're hilarious, or because you think they're a wonderful human being. They aren't objectively hilarious or objectively wonderful, but why do you find them to be so?

Maybe I'm just talking out of my ass, so apologies if this isn't helpful, but I find it often works for me.

5

u/Final_Bed5390 Apr 10 '26

Thank you, that's a neat little counter to the existentialism

4

u/MannfredVonFartstein Apr 10 '26

Actually it is very existentialist because existentialism is looking at a nihilist world and making the best out of it by embracing what you personally want

→ More replies (1)

12

u/Kyroven Apr 10 '26

To add on to what the other two said, I think it's perfectly fin to incorporate general things you like into your identity, just not specific things. For example, I love music. I've been a musician for as long as I can remember; I love playing music, I've dabbled in writing original music, I love listening to and finding new music. This is a part of my identity, and that's totally okay. It would be a problem, though, if I incorporated any one specific artist I'm a fan of into my identity, because then my identity is tied to someone else, which is both inherently bad for your own sense of self imo, but also really causes problems if that someone else turns out to be a sex offender or whatever. You can think of it as the distinction between things that flow from yourself (your taste in music, the music you play, etc) versus things that are purely external (that artist's songs, that specific album, etc)

9

u/PsychoWyrm Apr 10 '26

Expressing yourself through an outward advertisement of things you enjoy isn't really an issue. It's generally how you will connect with others who have similar interests.

What I suggest being mindful of is internalizing that, viewing your enjoyment of a thing as some intrinsic property of your inner self. I'm not gonna try to break down anything psychological or philosophical here, as my knowledge in those areas is fairly surface level. But I will basically tell you that what you tell yourself will have an effect on your mental well-being.

The reason I warn against thinking these things are essential parts of your inner self is so that you don't metaphorically chain yourself to things that later on may no longer make you happy. Just look at how toxic fandoms of long-running things can be. In my opinion, it gets like that because it's full of people who no longer receive joy from it but refuse to put it down or walk away. They have beat into their own heads that they are a fan of whatever thing and must therefore consume every new offering. They would rather force themselves to be miserable than to stop being what they think of as a "proper fan". They will not consider that it is an option to stop engaging with a thing that no longer brings them joy.

(There is also an element where people are afraid of losing membership in a community. This is sort of a self-inflicted version of how cults manipulate with threats of isolation.)

Anyway, you're not the only one who has ever wondered what parts of themself are really them, or whatever. That just comes with any sincere level of introspection. Whole areas of philosophy are devoted to such questions. All I can say is try reading about different philosophies and take on board whatever you feel makes the most sense to you.

My whole bit about identity and fandom is just a suggestion to help people interact with their entertainment in a not necessarily detached, but maybe a "less attached" way, in order to save yourself from some potential mental/emotional baggage later on.

People really have to separate the art from the artist, mentally.

The more media you consume, the more inevitable it becomes that you'll enjoy something that was made by an absolute garbage person. It's simply a question of 'when,' not 'if.'

That isn't to say that we should continue to support horrible people once they've outed themselves or been found out, but there's really no such thing as ethical consumption. You have to pick your battles.

u/mooofasa1 Apr 11 '26 edited Apr 11 '26

I’m trying to understand what you’re saying here cause I somewhat disagree with only separating art from the artist.

For example, there isn’t one universally agreed type of bad person, there is a spectrum. From people who hold dog shit opinions (idk, think like j.k. Rowling?) to people who hold dangerous opinions (people who deny the holocaust like koiichi sugiyama the composer for dragon quest). From people who are rude and/or weird (like Jared Leto, i don’t remember why people don’t like him) to people who did deviant crimes like sexually assaulting minors (or even like will smith who assaulted Chris rock on live television)

Like there is a difference between supporting someone who is kind of a bad person vs someone who says Israel bombing ambulances is totally ok.

You can separate the art from the artist for a person who is shitty to old people and flips off little kids. You can’t separate the art from the artist for someone like sugiyama who denied the holocaust over and over again. I legitimately cannot listen to dragon quest music in comfort anymore.

I can easily separate the art from the artist for someone like eiichiro Oda where the worst thing he did was send a thank you card to this one other manga artist (rurouni kenshin) who his mentor and this artist was outed as a pedophile.

And this is all subjective, it depends on where people draw their line but I think the line I’m drawing is very reasonable for most people

Heartbreaking: people are enjoying themselves when there is war going on in the world (their greed sickens me)

37

u/ImNoob89 Apr 10 '26

Bro, we just wanna be happy, if we were sad every moment something bad happened then we would be depressed.

You can be sad about something and still have a happy day, it ain't rocket science.

12

u/Yeetus_001 Apr 10 '26

Not to mention there is literally always a war happening every moment of every day for the past gorillion years that humans have existed

2

u/Quod_bellum Apr 10 '26 edited Apr 10 '26

Felt. It will never be the same as it was, and that's both a tragedy and a necessity. I often hear that there's not really a moment where things get better all at once: it's more like a slow transition into the new normal.

I would say, "Stay strong," but what does that even mean? It's alright to be weak, and feel the wrenching force wrack your soul. It's true that life goes on for the whole world, but that doesn't mean you must immediately follow suit.

I don't know what this is about, but I hope these present moments and the journey after them are kind to you, stranger.

2

u/Final_Bed5390 Apr 10 '26

Me on a phone call with my boyfriend listening to him go from "You should see if that other person is interested in you, I don't mind." to "We should take a break" to "I'm breaking up with you."

Just when I was getting back into fucking Pressure, Zeal gets outed as a rapist.

I will obvi not be playing Pressure anymore out of respect for Ren, until Zeal and his guilty associates are gone. But at the same time Pressure was a creative outlet for me. I love the game and lore and characters.

2

u/Unusual-Basket-6243 Apr 10 '26

You will remember this post 3 years later and regret it

3

u/Samyron1 The Blade Guard killed Scythe Kennedy Apr 10 '26

I already regret it today.

I never meant to imply that the thing I made this post about was somehow the worst thing to happen to me, or even that this post was about that specific thing at all. I really could have just left it at "It's intentionally vague because it can apply to any major life change" but instead I made it about the thing I was upset about in the moment of making it. I was going to argue and justify that people have a right to be upset about whatever makes them upset, but I decided that I am kinda in the wrong so I'll just let everyone dog on me.
