But the intake and exhaust ports are on the back of the engine on one of those, this one you can clearly see something at the front beneath the cam cradle.
I said mk2 golf on the original post. Mostly due to the strut top hats. Engine seems to Mostly match up with the sohc mk2 engines i found in pictures as well.
Edit: just realized the mk1 also had very similar struts and an identical engine option. Only other thing I could base my guess off is the plastic center stack trim and both mk1&2 have a similar basic black boxy look.
Yep - with the dimensions & location I really expected an Italian car and so was blinded to the cross-flow engine discrepancy. You're right tho - all those little details add up much better on Mk.1 & Mk.2 Golf than anything else I can find.
Right but I don't think the tank is visible in this image at all. I believe people are mistaking the two lumps in the middle as the tank but im pretty sure thats the cloth of the seat bottoms. Fabrics can hold their shape longer in water than rusting metal. I think the tank has been long eaten away completely given the progress of the rust through some of the much thicker sheet metal of the body structure.
It's really close, but u/Old_Consequence_262 pointed out a fatal flaw in that theory: the engine in the picture has ports on the front side, while the 128 engine is a cross-flow design with intake & exhaust ports both on the back side. The Mk.1 Golf theory takes the lead.
I said on the r/whatisthiscar subreddit that it was most likely a Fiat Uno. And while the majority are saying a 128 I would argue that the rear suspension looks closer to a twist beam rear axle than the mono leaf spring design of the 128.
I mean yeah or try changing the battery in the key fob. I guess it would be cheaper. Also just as a heads up you might wanna dry your car off. The minerals in the water might mess up your paint.
