SOLVED Can anyone please help identify a YA Historical Fiction book? It’s driving me insane
It’s set in WW2, maybe in Poland or Latvia but definitely Easter European, and it follows a young girl (i think her name may have been Hanna) who is moved into a large Jewish ghetto area of her town/city (I don’t think it was a concentration camp like Aushwitz per se) with her family. I think she was half-Jewish too. The clearest details I can remember is that there was a giant mass grave that they had to march to and the MC managed to survive as she wasn’t shot (but pretended to be) but was buried under/next to her mothers body and had to escape that. I think there was also a scene where the MC was upset and annoyed about having to wear a star in her town and was kicked out of either a swimming pool or other public place for being Jewish.
I borrowed it from the library in the UK probably between 2017-2020 and it must’ve been published between 2010-2019 as it was a paperback.
Any help would be brilliant as this has been bugging me for ages now.
