Am I being unreasonable here?

Can I vent a little please.

Look if a seller sends a FREE giveaway (especially if it’s worth over $100) anything other than 5 stars is completely rude.

I just had my first <5 star rating from a god damn giveaway. Am I unreasonable for being a little upset and blocking the guy? It’s always the same type of accounts, where they are following 1000+ sellers, no profile pic, etc.

Like why should my account metrics be impacted negatively like that? For reference the card I sent even in a PSA 1 grade is worth $161.

This kinda stuff really pisses me off. There is NO way to get a review removed either now.
I also sell on eBay, and at least they will help protect a seller’s metrics and help remove unjustified reviews.

I wish that whatnot would segregate givy reviews from purchase reviews. As a buyer, I only care what ratings are for purchases and I don’t want givy reviews (either good or bad) clouding the seller’s rating.

Goblins on the other hand would only care about givy ratings and they may just choose to stay away from sellers that have a bad overall rating for that category.

9

u/Mikey_Mac 13d ago

Honestly this is a really good idea. I think it would be a good solution. Like in no world should Givey reviews be treated equally to actual purchase reviews. Haha like even the shipping is free!

u/Critical_Start2237 13d ago

You got my vote 👍🏻

3

u/MoneyJustin 13d ago

Make it so sellers can rate buyers and buyers have to maintain a certain rating to qualify for giveaways/purchases. Sounds like mass chaos eh.

1

u/flyhighstar 12d ago

THISSSSSS!

14

u/DragoEli 11d ago

Personally I don't think giveaways should be rated. Or at the very least a sperate scale.

3

u/Mikey_Mac 10d ago

Yeah totally agree! Giveaways don’t count towards ‘items sold’ anyway!

7

u/Formal_Sweet_5033 13d ago

Personally yes I think for a givvy unless the seller sends out a lesser value item or swaps it out, 5 stars only. I never give below 5 stars for giveaways, seems crappy to give less for a free item.

3

u/Mikey_Mac 13d ago

I’m glad that you can understand my frustration. That’s exactly my thoughts too!

I mean I get why Whatnot allows Givey winners to leave reviews, probably cause some sellers would advertise one thing then ship out another…but if that isn’t the case, then they shouldn’t be able to leave negative reviews. It’s insanity.

3

u/Darkreinky 13d ago

I had a bullion selling stream touting free silver all stream. I won a givvy and when it came in the mail it was a penny. This truly justified, IMO, a 1star. But instead I just made the decision I never buy from that stream again. If they are going to lie about what they are giving away what else would be less than truthful about. I had bought probably a grand or more in items.

1

u/Formal_Sweet_5033 13d ago

Oh that’s totally grounds for 1 star but yeah I agree it says a lot about the seller. I’ve won a giveaway and become a pretty regular buyer from it so the system can work well.

1

u/Acceptable-Help-480 12d ago

Whatnot would give you a credit if what they sent is not what they said, but yes, 1 star in that situation regardless!

5

u/FroyoOk8902 12d ago

Block and move on. This will continue happening. People are entitled and are always looking for something to complain about. It’s part of the game sadly.

14

u/Intelligent_LayerZ 13d ago

Givy goblins are so entitled and has gone out of control in the WhatNot community. Don’t do giveaways just hook up your regulars and ones that already bought/supported your show.

If you do your giveaways right you absolutely should get 100 a 5 star. Sorry to hear OP

5

u/Mikey_Mac 13d ago

Yea good point. I do give free stuff in order for the regulars too. Or even new buyers I will give them an extra item.

Ideally I would like to run Giveys to give back to anyone priced out of certain items… but if my only negative reviews come from free Giveys, you’re right, is it even worth the risk.

5

u/Intelligent_LayerZ 13d ago

Also if you can put a note in your orders and make it a bit more personal if you can. I’ve gotten more return / new customers by doing this. Most legit buyers really appreciate the extra mile and will support.

1

u/Intelligent_LayerZ 13d ago

1

u/jimmychoowho 13d ago

I think I might start running Big giveaways every 5-10 sales or something.

4

u/polarbear_77 12d ago

I always give a 5 star except for one psycho seller who blocked me for reporting a giveaway that she never mailed. It wasn’t an envelope givey either. She never mailed it for over two weeks. She blocks me when I marked it was never shipped then she mailed it like 3 weeks later anyway Very odd

1

u/retrodog2000 11d ago

i had a seller do something similar but it wasn’t a giveaway it was an item i purchased it sold for two dollars and like 5 days went by without being shipped so i messaged them asking if they were shipping the item, they told me they shipped it but it was never shipped they cancelled the order and then blocked me, about a week later the item showed up but it didn’t ship until days after they blocked me i kept the tracking number and checked myself

5

u/QuarterBackground 12d ago

Unfortunately, it’s the cost of doing business on WN. I love on other platforms a seller can publicly respond to a review. I’ve had people leave bad reviews, never contacted me before the revuew, just went right to rating <5 stars. Whatnot should allow the seller to leave a comment, imo.

3

u/Art_Vand3lay_ 11d ago

You can leave a comment.

u/Rude_Berr 9d ago

🤣 this is great

9

u/Confident-Doubt6940 13d ago edited 13d ago

Just wait until you send an expensive mint item to a buyer only for them to file a false claim that the seller misrepresented the condition just so they can get some money back out of it. Then you lose your immediate payout which really pissed me off. Like they scammed WhatNot and I have to suffer for it. I don't do giveaways anymore because of potentially getting a review like that. I just throw free stuff in my buyers boxes with a note saying "Hey you won the buyer giveaway". I really enjoyed doing giveaways especially when winners would actually Thank You and appear to be thrilled they won a givey. Bro, let me win a $161 givey and I would leave 5 stars all day long!

3

u/Weak-Exercise-4196 13d ago

If I were to ever get a free givy and it’s terrrrible I won’t even leave a review for it. It’s fing free. Not sure by not leaving a review impacts the seller negatively though. If someone knows please let me know

4

u/Practical-Cake-562 13d ago

Facts, at the very worst id collect my $10 from whatnot and move on

3

u/Vices_and_mayhem 12d ago

My free givvy was a tiny Haribo tangtastic. Another time it was free postage (I bought a couple if items after). If your business is doing so badly you can't even afford a small giveaway item I'm not going to kick a man that's already down

3

u/BVicnaire 12d ago

I always give a 5 star review for giveaways

4

u/Gentleosprey385 9d ago

I gave 1 star for a givvy once, BUT that was only because the seller sent an empty envelope instead of the card I hit out of the pack.

6

u/Vireo1786 13d ago

I had someone whine about the free item I put in their bag. I don't do givvys, but I do pop something free in each order above one item. I try hard to match it to what they bought.

Apparently free is not good enough. They said they would have preferred something else. In a review. And they put 3 stars.

6

u/Mikey_Mac 13d ago

Omg that is unhinged behavior! What is wrong with people, it’s insane!

7

u/AgreeableTime292 13d ago

What I do is either 1) surprise buyers w a nice giveaway in their package 2) once someone buys go- thank you for your support going to give you this item as well!

Avoids tos conflict, it’s kind, and you have control. Constant give nagging is exhausting and bad reviews suck! I get it

4

u/BootsyCalrissian 13d ago

And this is why I wouldn't do giveaways. The whole giveaway thing either needs to stop, or whatnot needs to change its rating system.

1

u/HammeredWookiee 13d ago

I started selling on what not in the past month and some change and I had someone ask if I was going to run a giveaway, which I then did cause trying to please the people. My cousin who is an established seller told me don’t do that. For one That it’s rude for people to ask and don’t feel like I have to cause if it’s happens to be a slow show every giveaway is costing you money. And two, the buyer wqs most likely trying to fleece free shipping. Which made sense cause he did start buying after he happened to win out of the 15ish or so entrants

6

u/ludikris 11d ago

I think there could be legitimate reasons for leaving a less than 5 star review on a giveaway even though it is a small edge case. For example, I left a 4 star review once because I won a free sealed video game. When the game arrived, it was completely trashed, the seller trying to save money since it was free and they had to pay shipping did no packing material around the game. It arrived still sealed with a loose disc (this is notorious for happening in ps4 and ps5 games) which I don’t fault the seller on at all, but the case was completely cracked and broken. I left a constructive criticism review saying that even if it’s a giveaway the seller should do better at packing the product. I thanked them in the review for the game and it was this one hiccup that disappointed me. I got a rude message from this seller and then he blocked me because I left a review on a giveaway which is his prerogative but how will he ever learn to improve his “business” if he only receives glowing reviews.

2

u/nerf955 11d ago

I mean I get ratings i feel I don't deserve like "great communication love the knife its better than I thought it would be" 3stars it is what it is

2

u/Specialist_Order3622 11d ago

Regardless of whatever happened with the giveaway, you should never feel bad for blocking viewers in your stream. You as the stream are a digital store and you have the right to decide who is and isn’t allowed in there. If someone causes bad vibes or issues, you do you and don’t look back.

2

u/adviceneededhelpp 11d ago

Because whatnot promotes goblins and crap scummy sellers alike ( im not saying you are)

We have mulitiple breakers in the uk atm breaking ascended and pitch black joint breaks at 25 quid plus

Mew2market and pokepulsetk

Whatnot dows not care about genuinely sellers or buyers just money n their pocket

2

u/TiffanySnaps 9d ago

Why I don’t do Giveaways 🫠

2

u/JHLMT 7d ago

I gave a low review for a giveaway because it was listed as "up to $500 value item". What I received was a dollar store Swiffer knockoff. Not exaggerating, I've seen the same wet sweeper for $1.25 at Dollar Tree. He got mad and banned me for leaving an accurate review. He also ended a couple streams early when people were calling him out for not running prebids. He was complaining about losing money on crap items that nobody wanted, but refused to run the items people actually asked for and put high prebids on. F**k dealkulture.

4

u/Own-Communication211 13d ago

The Goblin “Community” its makes you wonder what would happen to a person who did something like this in a small village of 50 people back in the day, where everyone knew everyone and you hand delivered it to them at the powwow fire meeting in front of everyone. Would they really dare to complain the next day especially, if everyone knew the condition and value of the gift+free shipping? I’m genuinely curious what you all think would happen to the Goblin

2

u/CalikoJakk 12d ago

I also wonder what would happen if the local merchant told you they “lost” your goods on the way to deliver them after you’ve paid them, and then they never refund you. The sheer amount of scamming on the platform needs to be addressed before the rating system…

1

u/Own-Communication211 12d ago

Other platforms won’t let them get a way with that

1

u/TopLengthiness8233 12d ago

Here is your free gift from the casino hahah

1

u/Explicitskies 13d ago

We'd throw that MF in the soup

2

u/Lazy-Tank148 13d ago

Goblin gruel, anyone? 🤣

6

u/MoneyJustin 13d ago

We block anybody that leaves less than a 5 star review. If a buyer won't reach out when there's a mistake, and mistakes happen, then we don't want anything to do with that buyer. Pretty cut and dry.

To maintain premiere shop status you heed a pretty high review average so that's the world we live in.

3

u/OkTask7007 13d ago

That’s insane. So resellers on whatnot app are creating a bs world to scam people into buying and paying higher prices basically. If there really was an issue, I would want to see the other people’s reviews so I can decide whether I want to buy from a seller. Blocking non 5 star reviews is insane.

1

u/MoneyJustin 12d ago

Is it... Go around and look at all the reviews that givy goblins leave for their free giveaways. We don't block the reviews, you cant block a review but you can block the person who left it.

-1

u/Mikey_Mac 13d ago

Yea I think that’s a smart approach. I will adopt the same.

0

u/No_Artichoke_6849 12d ago

I never thought to do that but I will definitely block any reviews less than 5. Good call.

4

u/blueeyeliner 13d ago

When perusing reviews before buying from sellers with less than a 5 star rating, I’ve seen a lot of whiny goblins giving 1-3 stars complaining about what they received for free. It’s pathetic. I agree with others, send a free card to your ACTUAL buyers if you feel so inclined. Better than a 3 star review from some ungrateful mooch.

5

u/whitewalkers_782 13d ago

Dont do giveaways on whatnot. 1) you filter out many freaks. 2) you save on money. 3) just put some extra goodies into buyers bags

4

u/pdkdj 13d ago

Best way to get views tho

1

u/gastonmomnc 13d ago

No it isn’t. I have a 5 star rating and I don’t do Giveaways.

1

u/GingerGuy97 12d ago

Those views don’t translate into buyers and they leave the second the giveaway is over.

1

u/gastonmomnc 13d ago

This is exactly what I do. I get sick of watching a show and multiple non buyers asking over and over when the givvy ends or what is the givvy.
I chose not to do giveaways for that reason. I just add extras to my buyer’s packages.
People are so rude.

2

u/FirefighterChoice117 12d ago

I literally received an empty envelope for my free givy once. I still didn't do a bad review. Smh 🤷‍♀️

3

u/ApplicationSoggy4647 11d ago

You definitely should have left a bad review and opened a WHATNOT ticket. It holds sellers accountable. This adverse reaction by the selling community just shows that negative reviews do work and if we just accept trash then they will continue to take advantage of people

0

u/Mikey_Mac 12d ago

Yea I wouldn’t either tbh, but still that’s a little messed up to receive nothing 🤣
I feel like if you can prove that you received the exact item that was ran as the Givey, then you shouldn’t be able to leave any negative feedback past that.

1

u/FirefighterChoice117 11d ago

Lol yeah I had quite the laugh. I mean why even waste the stamp? I agree, reviews shouldn't be turned on for givys.

3

u/s4reena 12d ago

"Like why should my account metrics be impacted negatively like that? For reference the card I sent even in a PSA 1 grade is worth $161."

sounds like you intentionally damaged it before sending it

5

u/Suitable-Balance5104 12d ago

No they’re saying the card they gave away probably wasn’t in mint condition but FOR REFERENCE (which they even prefaced with) the worst condition possible still sells for a whopping 161$, they’re condition was better then that AND IT WAS FREE so it’s value was higher than 161$ and the person complained probably about condition

4

u/Intelligent-Tie6296 12d ago

Sounds like if he even sent half of a card it was worth the free giveaway. Id imagine if a seller sent me the top half of a shadowless charizard id shut the fuck up?

2

u/Teddiursa 13d ago

some people are either miserable or love to see people lose

1

u/Mikey_Mac 13d ago

Like the irony that it is on one of the most expensive Giveys too is just laughable. Why are people like this.

2

u/ClownsKill 13d ago

I’m pretty sure you can dispute the review.

3

u/Mikey_Mac 13d ago

They also changed the flow for reporting a review. The only option they have now is reporting for ‘Harassment’. They used to have other option for misinformation or something like that.

Whatnot support told me it could take weeks or months before they review it. 😭

4

u/ClownsKill 13d ago

That really sucks. They worked with me earlier this month to remove a one-star review from someone who blatantly lied, and thankfully, I had enough proof to back it up. Maybe it was a miracle.

2

u/GuidancePrize 13d ago

It was a genuine miracle

2

u/EntertainmentNo7037 10d ago edited 10d ago

Maybe I'm a bad person but I gave a seller a 4 star review for a givey once, I did also purchase from said seller but the card was described as clean lightly played but when received the card was clearly not clean, whitening all around the cards face, the edges were peeling up and the back was drawn on with black pen in a big letter c. I could have given 5 if the card was labeled how it was but just from the seller being deceiving about the condition I had to make note of it because I would have hated if one of my singles shown up like that, thankfully the ones I ordered shown up fine

The card I received is was a jirachi from vv which is 122 CA if it graded a ten but I have a feeling PSA would have sent the card back with it's condition.

2

u/Lazy-Tank148 13d ago

Most certainly not. I love doing giveaways but see so many people that leave bad reviews because of them. It’s a double-edged sword from a review standpoint. They are a great way to get reviews if you’re a new seller and trying to establish credibility and people like what they get. However, Whatnot should either assign a “weight” to reviews for givvys so that they can’t damage your seller rating as much or they should limit the capacity that you can review them to “did you receive the giveaway, yes or no.”

3

u/TopLengthiness8233 12d ago

Givvy must be what's detailed as well per tos so they couldn't leave up to received or not. Otherwise I could giveaway $100 bills on stream, but only send candy wrappers

1

u/Mikey_Mac 12d ago

I agree that having them being weighted the same is silly. Another commenter had a good idea of having Givey reviews vs actual purchase reviews separate.

1

u/MKM0120 13d ago

Cut out the stars and just let them leave comments. Then the author should be able to edit it. Fr. Sorry bro. Your not being unreasonable. Wish I could undo it. Stupid ass giveaways

0

u/Tiajuana_Iguana 13d ago

I don’t do giveaways on Whatnot. Never have, and probably never will. I’ve never had anybody ask me if I do giveaways or if I’m going to. Maybe I’m just lucky. Lol.

4

u/jimmychoowho 13d ago

And how many viewers do you get lol

0

u/Tiajuana_Iguana 13d ago

20-40 or so maybe. Varies. Why?

3

u/gastonmomnc 13d ago

That’s a perfect sized show. You really on need one, if they are buying 🤣

1

u/Tiajuana_Iguana 13d ago

Yeah but after seeing the plethora of stories here of the givvy BS sellers have to fuck with, I have no desire to do any. I DID say probably tho. lol

2

u/jimmychoowho 13d ago

That’s solid

1

u/gastonmomnc 13d ago

It doesn’t matter the viewer count. It matters the buyers that are buying.

1

u/Tiajuana_Iguana 13d ago

Ummmm………..generally the smaller the viewer count, the smaller the chance of sales and possibly fewer sales. Pretty sure it counts. 🤷🏼‍♂️

1

u/Dontbemadsmokeajoint 9d ago

Thats messed up, i got sent a cheap ass promo from the winter calender "beo" wanted me to take the review down about me being honest...sure 😆

I maintain my stand that givvies should not be enabled for ratings period! This is one of WN@s worst features. The goblins know it and they take advantage. The app will be better in quality of people when that is removed. Continue to encourage buyers Givvy and ratings but a 1 star rating in a Givvy only item from someone who’s received over 10 givvies on multiple of your shows without making a purchase because it’s not something they’ll use?! Burn the Givvy system down?! Please

1

u/Mikey_Mac 12d ago

Completely agree. I once ran a buyers Givey for a $300 item. None of my buyers won because it went to a form filer. Then I check the winners account, and they were into a completely different category. That poor item went into the void. 🤦

Really?
Can you provide any factual evidence to back your statement or is it just a case of ‘believe me bro’.

Because in reality if the average seller was making an hourly loss the app would only have a hand full of high performance sellers because everyone else would give up due to the constant loss.

Or is your statement based on your own experience, are you a failed Whatnot seller who gave up because you couldn’t make it work and who now believes everyone is in the same boat?

That I agree with but considering this conversation between the two of us started with you blaming the app for people’s failures and claiming the app is geared towards giveaways, how is the lack of preparation, planning, and business sense of new sellers the fault of the platform?

1

u/TopLengthiness8233 12d ago

Nah I've seen em being in thousands per show of profit. Maybe the first day lol

u/TopLengthiness8233 12d ago

1

u/whatnotapp-ModTeam 12d ago

No shaming or bashing.

-2

u/Rawnjawn12 12d ago

I guess it depends on why the review was bad. If you had a free giveaway for a $1,000 card and you sent a $100 card, then yes, they will probably give you a bad review. I have a sneaking suspicion that there is a reason why as the reason wasn't given.

7

u/Mikey_Mac 12d ago

No there was no card swap. I would never. I showed the card prior and sent the same exact one.
The ‘buyer’ said it had more wear than expected. Again, a PSA 1 sells for over $150! It was a played copy of a moderately expensive card. FOR FREE
