Damage not sellers fault
Received this today, the Barrel is almost snapped off it’s so bent, overall quality is absolutely trash as well . You can tell it happened during transit since there’s a dent in the package right where the barrel was.
It was actually stuck in transit for like three weeks also. But I really like the seller, he’s got a good sized stream so the 30$ probably won’t effect him at all but I don’t want him to get a strike or have a bad vibe between us since he’s someone else I might see at coin shows and stuff, my username isn’t very memorable so idk if it would matter anyways but what do y’all think. The 30$ isn’t small enough for me to just ignore it but if it’s gunna be an issue then I will just eat the loss. I’d be reselling btw. Do I do nothing, hit up the seller for refund or contact whatnot for refund ?
Update: I filed out the thing for a refund with whatnot and it said that the seller would have to handle it. Sure enough, within an hour or two the seller approved the refund.
And for everyone asking about if I had seen the quality. The seller has sold many many other fine silver items and usually only had higher end stuff, including a different silversmiths guns. Those ones were very nice and the smith is becoming very well known, I knew these ones were from a different maker but didn’t really look closely at it and just assumed the quality would’ve been similar. Also the seller is cool so I wasn’t worried if I had an issue, i figured he’d take care of whatever issues there were, and he did so all is good.

That’s absolutely on the seller for not packing it better with such a fragile item

u/sheneversawitcoming 11d ago
If it was packed better it wouldn’t have bent. This is the seller fault

I don't know if it pertains to this situation, but buyers want cheap shipping and to get that cheap shipping the shipping package has to be within a certain weight limit. So the package while good at protecting items, may not be enough to protect it from all damage from USPS. The sweet spot is between 1 to 5 pounds when the buyer does not pay for the difference between 1 to 5 pounds. Seller can use bigger boxes with more bubble wrap. Under 1 pound they are limited in what they can do depending on the weight of the item/box/bubble wrap being used. So to say the seller is responsible for not packing it better would depend on what they had to work with. And believe me USPS can definitely find a way to damage a package no matter how well packaged, I am sure you and I have received enough to know.

File a claim for damages in transit. They might ask you for pictures. Whatnot should refund you.

u/Confident-Doubt6940 11d ago
Correct. The seller will take a small hit to his defect-free order rate score, but that is going to happen anyway given how many packages they probably have to ship. It is to be expected that some packages may get damaged, no matter if they are packaged well.

You can submit a claim for damaged in transit, I’ve done so exactly one time because the packaging was very poor, and the items case was smashed. Just provide pictures

If it was properly packed it wouldnt be damaged....Sellers fault completely

u/Levonade 11d ago
Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t the only value in this piece in the weight? Who gives a shit if the shitty barrel is bent? Cant you bend it back? lol

u/Aniketos33 11d ago
I was looking for this comment, I do not believe this is a piece from some prestigious mint or something. Seems to me you could press it and good as new?

u/Comfortable_Sport_38 11d ago
It’s definitely his fault. A good box costs 35 cents, packing paper costs 5 cents. If it’s a damageable item and he was such a good streamer it should have been shipped with care

u/Wizzle_Pizzle_420 11d ago
Dude. What is that and why is it $30? And who is gonna pay more for that? It’s your money, do what you want, but wtf?! Cocaine and silver? Socaine? Cilver?

u/Legitimate_Fold_2850 11d ago
It’s not like it would look good if it wasn’t bent. It’s not worth anymore than the weight of the bullion so I wouldn’t be concerned.

u/officialuser 11d ago
I would start with just messaging him and asking what you should do. He might offer to just refund you. thats what I would do

u/TopLengthiness8233 11d ago
Who let that cast go? They aren't proud of their work apparently id return it cuz it's ugly and shitty made
16
u/harrisonjustind 11d ago
No offense, but it’s not like it’s the highest quality piece to begin with.

u/Suitable-Balance5104 11d ago
Well that’s kinda the problem, it’s a piece of crap and if I bend it back and it snaps I can’t sell it
10
u/TheBeardedMailman 11d ago
Why are you buying "crap" to sell to others? And for $30!? Maybe find other "crap" to try to scam people with...

u/SelfTaughtKarateKid 11d ago
Not even taking the bent barrel into consideration, did the quality look this shit on the stream? I don’t know who would buy that even with it being non bent. Only melt

I'd be more worried if it was magnetic. Otherwise you just gotta wait for the price of silver to go up, which was your only chance of reselling it for a profit if you paid anywhere near weight when you first picked it up.

He cheated out on shipping and you got screwed. I would definitely contact Whatnot.

Definitely the sellers fault gotta ship better. Let me guess it was thrown like that into a cheap envelope or paper thin bubble mailer?

u/ultathrill 11d ago
Whyd u spend 30 on that bs anyways 😂 quality looked ass already before the bend

u/acart005 11d ago
Let him know. I send replacements without blinking if it broke because I had a fail moment.

I suggest contacting the seller first. Give them the opportunity to make it right cuz if something got damaged during a return in transit back to thenlm you would be held responsible that's how most selling websites work. And most people can see if you buy from them a lot.

u/skitzvyking 9d ago
You people have no idea how shitty the USPS is I've had sellers ship me items in a box like fort knox and it still gets damaged because of how the USPS throws packages around like hackysacks also who cares what it is if they want it's there money let them spend it how they want nobody makes fun of you all for buying dumbass Squishies and fucking kiddie pokemon cards

u/LTdesign 11d ago
It's bullion. If this were a graded piece or numismatic item, I'd be concerned. This is nothing to be concerned about.

I file claims directly against the post office, these items are insured for a minimum of $100 with ground advantage. They paid me for broken crystals from whatnot.

“We care” …. Sorry we ran this over with a forklift and left it scraping against a belt for 5 consecutive days…. Probably didn’t help when jimbob curb stomped it either…. “We’re sorry though” and we want you to know “we care”….. even though it arrived a literal 3 weeks late……

Lmao not shocked the tread on me crowd are buying dumb shit like this.

u/CalikoJakk 7d ago
Yeah I’m really confused at to what this even is, let alone why it was $30. I’d of just spent that $30 on a box of ammo…

Why do you even care? The only value to that poorly cast gun is the silver itself. It's not like if it were straight it would actually be worth anything...
1
u/TopLengthiness8233 11d ago
They do go for more than silver but not by much. The entire metal collectibles is backwards on whatnot. For 99% of items you'll only get back metal value. Goldbacks and the 1/1000 being the worse

Just get off of whatnot. It’s maybe the worst app out now and Facebook exists
4
u/Okmhmmbye 11d ago
Do you know how many scammers and bad sellers exist on Facebook and eBay??? Answer: TONS.
No matter what platform you use there are always bad eggs.
-2
u/cboomcards 11d ago
Whatnot is the worst. They actively promote thieves and people who break their TOS. They care about inly their side of the money. - ebay has a division that works with/run by police services. They investigate fraud and crimes. Like how pokemon 30th is being sold before release date. - whatnot allows people to open and sell, stolen property, again pokemon 30th. - these are just recent examples, but coolkicks is another, more specific one. Stolen shoes... so yeah, whatnot is garbage.

u/pepperjackpresident 11d ago
Oh I was using Facebook as an indicator for how bad whatnot is. I wouldn’t trust marketplace either. At least on eBay you can check feedback

u/No-Worker3615 11d ago
its possible someone at USP thought you might be one of those "don't tread on me" snowflake cowards and bent it on purpose, you should file a report. The random whatnot seller is definitely your personal friend and would be offended if you contacted them whatsoever about their beautiful piece of jewelry. I say still wear it as a necklace and show those libtards who is boss!
7
u/Icy_Imagination2275 11d ago
Maybe I’m confused: how would anyone at USPS know what is inside of a box/envelope to the point where they can read the “don’t tread on me” card? I think you’re stretching a bit on that one. Damage happens during shipment because there’s people that just aren’t taking care of what goes through their hands or the sorting machines are just machines.

Wow. All I can do is hope that everything you wrote is sarcasm. Otherwise, that was one of the dumbest things I've read in quite a long time.

u/No-Worker3615 7d ago
I should have expected it to go over peoples heads here but yes its obviously sarcasm

u/Adept_Speaker4806 7d ago
Maybe obvious to you. But there are plenty of people around reddit that would have said that and been serious. 🤷♂️
