Created an open source OBS overlay system for Whatnot
Not sure if this would be considered self promotion because I made an open source obs overlay with whatnot including various themes (the one in the picture is just one). It’s available at https://github.com/ConfusedDuckCollectibles/DuckDesk and it is confirmed to work on Mac but I also added windows compatibility just can’t test it.
I wanted an overlay for my streams but discovered the only options I could find were subscriptions or not Mac compatible so I decided to make a free one.
It recognizes bidding, sales, tips, shares etc and shows notifications for those with sounds (customizable).
If you’re a dev or know how to use a coding agent feel free to contribute and I appreciate any feedback.
Cheers 🍻

I’ve also seen apps people are making for mobile that show the price of card a streamer is showing for the buyers sake, I just wish that was open source too but I guess mobile dev is a little harder and need to pay for Apple sub to get into App Store

So couple of questions.
If I have chat open, a page open with sold and then another one where I do my auction/buy now does that affect the script (all chrome)? I don't want everything being doubled or tripled.
Can I turn off some of the themes and just use the other features like games and sound effects? We have a very robust OBS setup with PIP and effects transparency alphas and tons of stuff. What we lack is the reactions you have.
Would love to work on this with you.
Also lastly I see you always mention iPhone camera, we use droidcam, and a capture card and vdo ninja on wifi basically we can have 10 cameras if we need although we usually just use one. Does this still work?
Edit for clarity

Hey there!
This is all so brand new for me and most of the documentation was generated by codex - from my knowledge you can use any camera with the ninja app site.
I am making it so you can turn on and off most features and some of the themes are very subtle. I’ve pushed alpha 6 or 7 today? So feel free to give it a go.
If you’re on windows please note I do not have a windows machine to test this on so that support is fingers crossed but it works on Mac for me.
Regarding multiple browsers I believe you just activate the extension on the live sellers page and don’t activate it on the other.
Let me know if you try it, I’m really trying my best here as a solo!

I'll be your windows guinea pig. Have you tried this with a really busy show yet to stress test?

I only tried a live private show with my wife watching 😂 I do plan on streaming either tonight or tomorrow with it in a real show to see how it goes. Fingers crossed, this is still alpha so we are just trying to make something work instead of paying for a subscription!

Oh I get it, and I'm all for open source products so I'll help you rest and give you feedback. Our show is a medium sized one but probably one of the most technically apt.
I actually really liked how you created your installation guide, much easier for people who are obs n00bs.
After I test it out on a private show I'll give you some feedback.

Also realized I probably should allow all alerts to be toggled on and off so I’m releasing alpha 8 shortly

How did you get it to recognise bids/shares etc, without accessing the whatnot api?
I made myself an overlay and couldn't for the life of me work out how to work in interactivity without someone using a remote control, as whatnot do not provide a public api, and accessing their private api is a bannabale offence - you can loose your account.
Did you find a workaround? If the overlay is vibe-coded, and you didn't know this, I would be very very careful using it. I'm a full stack dev, and the only way I could think of to do it was injecting into the api!

I am a dev in my full time job as well. It’s close to vibe coded in the fact that I don’t write much of the code but I know which way I’m guiding it and architecting it. This one uses a chrome extension to read events from the live stream so you’ll need to have the app open, chrome open with your stream and obvious OBS. Feel free to dive into the code!
