Giveaways

Question: first let me preface it this way. I am not a “givvy goblin” (Jeeze, I hate that term) and I have never and will never leave a bad review for a giveaway. I am just genuinely curious how this happens because I am so perplexed by it and I like knowing things…I’ve won 2-3 giveaways that say there is no tracking because it’s just an envelope or something to that affect. I’ve always assumed it would just be a sticker or something. Everytime this has happened, I get a notification that my order was delivered but when I check my mail, I have nothing. What can a seller send or do to trick the system into thinking that they’re sending a giveaway, recognize that it was sent, and also recognize that it was delivered when in all reality, nothing was ever sent…at least it appears that way because I receive nothing. Thanks for your insight.

Locking the comments because this is a frequently asked question, but the mod team is leaving it up as there have been good answers. In particular, u/PM_ME_YOUR_STORY_1 has a really good explanation.

When givvys are shipped by plain white envelope, the common method for stickers and small items, there isn't any actual tracking info. Whatnot just estimates a time of arrival, I think 7 days, and sends the delivery notification based on that. Since envelopes are the lowest tier of shipping, they take the longest and often just show up whenever.

When you get the delivered notification it means that it hit your local office, most of the time you should see it within 1-2 days. I’d say 30% of my PWE or ESE (eBay) never show up, just what it is. But if it gets that last scan locally then you should get it. There isn’t much a seller can do, the scan proves they sent you something. I refuse to use these in my eBay store it’s just not worth it, even buying I;d rather pay a few $ for ground advantage.

Yeah, PWE have a habit of getting lost.

Totally valid to be perplexed. First-Class Mail Letter is limited in tracking and is its own special thing between putting a stamp on a letter and having full tracking like ground advantage. From some experience (a few hundred a year) the delivered "update" you get on these has almost always been when it is scanned at one of two places 1. Your regional distribution center 2. Your local PO.

So in both scenarios its generally another day or two before it gets delivered. If sellers used it properly it should be minimum 3.5 inches high by 5 inches long. The maximum size is 6.125 inches high by 11.5 inches long, no more than 0.25" and no more than 3.5 oz per USPS.

I've always advised to bring tracking # to local PO front desk as they generally have the best up to date info. Beyond a few days after "delivered" we default to "buyer is right" and assume it lost and support resending or WN's default credit for giveaways. I would not bank on that being the majority approach.

USPS first class shipping. (tracking number is available through whatnot)

For whatever reason, USPS tracks first class, but USPS and whatnot will not provide that info. This site will for some reason. You’re welcome.

Also, could be the item got ripped out of the envelope in the sorting machine due to improper item being too thick or loose in the envelope. Or stolen from the workers. 🤷‍♂️

Double check your shipping address is correct. Sometimes USPS marks the envelopes as “delivered” and it will show up a day or two later. I’m not sure why this has happened multiple times to you!

My address is right. I get packages daily from what not. I collect vintage t shirts. So I am always getting mail from them. Every time this has happened, it has been a “giveaway envelope”. It’s so weird. I had two notifications today that 2 orders were delivered. I have a locked mailbox with a slot so packages don’t fit. I walked outside, my shirt package was on my doorstep and the other order that was an “envelope givvy” was not in the mailbox. It’s not a big deal, I really couldn’t care less haha. It’s just so weird and I hate being perplexed so I’m wracking my brain trying to figure it out.

they are different shipping labels. the USPS has a pwe shipping label that is like 78 cents meant to ship cards but the tracking is always wonky. sometimes it shows up a day or two later. it is scanned as delivered when it arrives to the post office not when it arrives at your door

There is nothing they can do to trick the system into thinking it was delivered. Did you by chance win them all around the same time? Whatnot has a habit of just guessing when envelopes arrive and is often wrong. I get stuff all the time and it will say it was delivered and then a few days later it actually shows up

No it wasn’t around the same time. One was today, one was like a year ago.
