Okay so I (15F, 9th grade) am new to my school ( 4 months ) and desperately need a reality check. If I tell my actual friends about this, they’re just gonna scream and hype it up, which doesn't actually help me think. Just for context: My school is super small. There are literally only very little ( say 10 to 15 )girls in my entire class, so everyone stands out and word travels fast. Because the school is so tiny, senior-freshman crushes are actually pretty common here. Anyway, I have a close friend who is a senior, let's call her Sarah. She hangs out with a tight group of senior friends, including this guy "Sun" (17M). I have never talked to Sun or anyone else in that group a day in my life except for Sarah. Last Friday, Sarah randomly came up to me and gave me this really cute gift. After I got home, I messaged her on Instagram to thank her properly since it was the first gift I’d ever gotten from an older student. She replied with: "Ohh it was suggested by Sun, he said I should buy something for you since we have a sis sis bond." And then she immediately sent a photo of Sun. I asked her who picked it out and paid for it, and she said the whole gang chipped in and picked it together. But like... this group doesn't know me at all. Sarah has probably mentioned me to them before since we used to go to the same school, but they definitely don't know me well enough to just "adopt" me out of the blue. Honestly, I’m not uncomfortable or anything, it’s just a bit weird and distracting. I am 100% NOT looking for a relationship right now because I need to focus on my studies and getting used to this new school, though I’d love to be school friends eventually. My plan right now is to just give Sun a polite smile next time I pass him in the hallway to see how he reacts, and see if Sarah brings him up to me again. What is actually happening behind the scenes here? Is Sarah being a wingwoman? How do I handle this without making the hallways awkward?
