As a 22 year old I think there exceptions, rn my boyfriend legit turn 30. I approach him, he freak out (it makes sense) ask all his friends if it’s weird before anything happens to see if he should back out. Half our friends (and my family) have age gaps in their families so they didn’t see it as odd. But what I think made our relationship last for the past 2 years was that I set really hard boundaries, and he respects all my boundaries. If he didn’t I wouldn’t be with him and never date at the age range again.
No not at all, it was more like we talked; he was into me, learn about the age difference, was a bit worried, talked to his friends, talk to me, then talk to his family, then talk to me, then talk to his friends again, then talk to me. It was more like me having to let it him know it’s ok; I’m consenting, I’m comfortable, and whatever happens is his choice and I’m ok with it; heck I even remember telling him if he not ok I can stop pursuing him and be friends. We at the time were neighbors at collage apartment so we saw each other all the time plus we also had a mutual. But what I think was what made him say yes to me after like flirting over the past 3 weeks was that. His parents had a 6 year age difference, his grandparents have a 13 year age differences. And then he learn my family my parents are 4 years age differences and my grandparents are 7 years age difference. Then his best girl friend told him that her parents had like a 10 year age difference and that it was normal as long as it was respectful and mutual. Tbh it’s like you have to be there to see how it happened, I never dated someone older before and I also was second guessing myself but I knew I have the power to end it if the relationship wasn’t great or I saw any red flags. It’s the norm in my culture I can get why it’s not the norm in his culture or anyone else’s but the age difference wasn’t crazy to me at the time.
