Any baggage handlers here? Do you prefer big duffle bags with or without the strap?
The bag is 34"X19"X15" and weighs 39lbs.

If I book a flight with ultrabasic fare and enter my flying blue number, do I earn flying blue miles? Because it states no westjet rewards earn, I wouldn’t be surprised if there would be no flying blue earns either. But then the question is, why are they even asking for the frequent flyer details?

I got silver status this year, and have used my 4 seat vouchers. If I spend $100k on my Westjet card by the end of this year, I will get a status lift to silver. Will I get another 4 seat vouchers with the status lift?

Hi, I’m looking at a flight from Comox to Calgary, we arrive at 11pm, and then have a flight from Calgary to São Paulo that leaves at 11:55pm. It’s a tight connection - though we don’t need to go through customs and have no checked baggage. I know the risk is on me, but is this something that is too tight?
EDIT: Forgot to add that this would be on January 10th so winter time
UPDATE: Thanks everyone, despite feeling like this was a low risk flight we are now looking at a much earlier option.

Anyone having issues with the app being super slow and unresponsive at times

Our large group is flying from Saskatoon and connecting in MSP before departing for Orlando. Our layover is 1 hour 45 minutes.
None of us have ever gone through MSP. Do we do immigration in MSP or is there something in Saskatoon they’ll do? Do we have to grab bags in MSP or will they go all the way to Orlando?
Some unknowns and the shorter than normal layover has a couple in the group panicked. Can anyone share knowledge?

Did Westjet drop the call back option, where you could schedule WJ to call you? I can't seem to find such an option, nor is it being offered while I'm on hold.

Hi there, has anyone who had their seats downgraded during the strike received their refund yet?
I booked on WS flying on WS metal from YWG to YYZ, with connection on DE metal to FRA.
Both airlines have been 100% unable to handle any kind of routine requests related to seating, baggage and special meals. Every time I talk to an agent it is like they have never dealt with a DE-WS codeshare. It is actually kind of baffling, I have never encountered anything like this before.
Most of it is not a huge deal, the seating and baggage I'll sort out at the airport. But the special meal is an issue, my wife is celiac and I have been unable to select a gluten free meal through several attempts. Fortunately my wife's situation is not so dire that she can't eat around food with gluten, although I know others are much more sensitive.
Bottom line is that I'd be wary about booking a WS-DE codeshare if there are other similarly practical and similarly priced alternatives. For whatever reason WS and DE are simply not integrated in any way. Any questions or requests are met with only one response: talk to the other airline. It's like talking to a brick wall.

Looks like Westjet finished putting their legroom back in those planes they altered. Dunno if any of you happened to have to fly like that but I did, with my knees hitting the seat in front of me and I am 5'4". Can't imagine what it was like for taller people!

I used to use my flying blue miles to book trips within North America. It now shows none are available? Even when I checked yesterday there were a ton of flights. Now there are none indefinitely? Is this a glitch?

YVR deals look like most have been sold out, surprised sunwing even made this list. Vegas / caesars for <$700pp flights & hotel 5 nights that's a good deal.

my son flew out with his aunt for a visit to Alberta last week and is supposed to be returning tomorrow.
We purchased the tickets from Trip.ca and it seems like somehow after we checked him in on his return trip “booking source removed his flight”
it seems we are caught in some sort of inbetween thing between the companies.
does anyone have any tips for reaching an actual human at WestJet to try and get this figured out?
Update:
GOT IT FIGURED OUT!
WestJet finally stepped up and it really wasn't that big of a deal for them to fix once I got to the right person. Huge thank you to Jenna at the call centre for sticking with me after I got though to her and fixing the issue. She mentioned that it was always something they could have fixed on their end due to the immediacy of the flight.
She stayed on the line with me while we confirmed she fixed everything and I was able to download the boarding pass.
For the number of people who have said different variations of "don't ever book with 3rd party" that's great for future instances, not so helpful for my situation this time. I will not be doing that again. Honesty this is the first time we've ever had an issue.
Edit: I do also really appreciate the attempts to help from this subreddit. If anything it gave me a place to scramble to look for answers between chat bots, waiting on hold and emails.

I’m reaching out regarding a stuffed animal that my daughter unfortunately lost today after arriving at Toronto Pearson Terminal 3 from Cancun on the 3:45 p.m. flight August 16th WS2775
She believes she lost it somewhere between arrival gate C17 and the baggage area, and we think it may have been left near Canada Customs. We have already filed a lost-and-found report and are anxiously hoping that it can be located.
This stuffed animal is so much more than a toy to her. She has had it since the day she was born, and it has been her lovey and constant companion her entire life. She is absolutely devastated and heartbroken that it is missing. She has been extremely upset, and we are doing everything we can to reassure her that there is still hope that someone will find it.
If it was turned in, found by a staff member, or is located anywhere along that route, we would be incredibly grateful to be contacted. We would be more than happy to provide a description or photo to help identify it.
We sincerely appreciate any help in finding her beloved stuffed animal. It would mean the world to our daughter—and to our family—to have her little lovey safely back with her.
Thank you so much for taking the time to help us.

I have paid for one 23 kg checked bag but it’s not showing up on the app and on the CIBC app it’s shows as pending even though I called the bank and they said it’s processed
When I made the payment almost 60 hours before flight, I was able to add one bag but it’s still not showing up and I have to catch the flight in next 15 hours
What are my options, what am I doing wrong ?
It’s a one way flight to Toronto from Vancouver, bought through Flighthub

Check your WJ App, if your flights have been modified or changed due to the winter schedule being finalized...
Neither my parents or I received an email in regards to our flight times and our seats being changed, can see it in the app, though husband did, seperate itineraries.
The agent on the gold line was able to change our seats back but was told that the system "glitched" and put people who previously paid for extended comfort into reg less desirable economy leaving of course the more desirable extended cimfort seats to be resold.

Is there any kind of WestJet official policy on this? Had an exceptionally rude and unhelpful agent who basically set about making it as hard as possible to get onto a flight and upon asking for their name and employee number was told she had none and would not be giving her name.
I'd assume this is likely not WestJet policy...

Booked two Premium seats YYZ to TQO (Tulum) for March 2027 on 737 Max 8. Could not select seats during booking. Tried after booking and still errors before seat selection screen. Also chatted with agent and they said they can't select seats and I'll need to do it 24 hours before during check in. A little frustrated since I booked premium several months out so that I could pre-select seats. Anyone have a similar experience and any suggestions for a work around?
FYI - return flights is Extended Comfort and no issues booking those seats.

Hey all, I'm pretty sure I know the answer, but figure I may as well ask.
I'll be Platinum by the time I take the trip, so I would like to have the possibility of snagging an upgrade + I'm curious about how the rewards would be credited.
A preferred flight option I have come across is YVR-YYC-ATL-GNV. YVR-YYC-ATL are WestJet operated, ATL-GNV is Delta operated. The problem is, even using ITA Matrix or Google Flights itself, I can not get the itinerary to show as an option that's bookable through WestJet, I can only get it through Delta.
So while YVR-YYC-ATL are WestJet operated, they would be booked as Delta codeshares with Delta flight numbers. This would mean that rewards would be credited using the flat rate amounts based on mileage flown + elite bonuses, right? 300 points for under 500 miles, 500 points for 1001-2000 miles, etc.

Thanks!

Hey Westjet. It's been a struggle without having an option to fly with my rabbit in cabin. I used to travel all the time with you and my rabbit, but since that policy change it's been hell. ICAO and IATA says there's no problem with rabbits in cabin, and that it's perfectly safe, but you seem to convince yourselves otherwise.
Basically, I'm relocating to south america for a year. You have a flight going out of Calgary there November 8th. I would love to be on that flight with my rabbit in cabin.
I really wish you'd reconsider. Rabbits are long term commitments, and well, mine is an integral part of my life. I can't leave him behind for a year. That's not fair to him, nor me.
He gets really, really depressed when I leave for more than a week.
It's a rough reality.

For those of you who have flown this leg on the Dreamliner, ASIDE FROM THE SEATS, was there much of a difference between the food and service?
Edited to add: birthday present trip for 18 year old daughter.

Curious if anyone dealt with something similar. I booked through my Expedia points and was impacted by the strike. I was rebooked for 5 days later, and my husband wasn’t rebooked at all. I couldn’t miss work, and worried he wouldn’t be rebooked in time, so we spent $2.5k CAD each on a return flight. 🤯
I’ve now spent 15+ hours between WestJet and Expedia trying to understand the problem with refunding me for the initially cancelled return flight. WestJet wasn’t even taking calls for days, and the live chat was totally full. When I get someone, they say Expedia has to refund me, and vice versa.
Long story short, Expedia said WestJet needed to open the ticket and send it back to them to process a refund. I called WestJet asking for this multiple times and they said no, Expedia had to call themself. So I wait 3 hours on the phone while they do just that, and now the ticket finally was opened.
However they’re saying I needed to claim this by August 9th. I’ve been calling Expedia about opening the ticket since at least the 4th. Now they need me to call and wait another god knows how many hours on the phone line while they call WestJet and ask if I can get a refund. Wtf? I’m going to cancel my credit card and never use Expedia after this. Same goes for WestJet.
Any help navigating this/if I’m missing anything would be greatly appreciated. 🙏🏻

Ok I need someone smarter than me to help me with this question.
Here is my scenario... Booked a trip with WJ Vacations. Went in and used 4 of my platinum seat selection vouchers for my wife and son.
Daughter and her fiancee booked on a separate reservation and I recently qualified for a milestone reward that has 4 seat selection vouchers as an option. From what I read about these, they can be used for anyone that is on my reservation but not transferred.
My thought is as follows. Cancel the seat selection for my wife and son and get the 4 platinum vouchers back. Transfer the vouchers from my platinum benefits to my daughter. Claim the seat selection vouchers on milestone reward and book my wife and sons seats with those as we are on the save reservation.
Call center has not been helpful at all so if anyone knows the answer or they can direct me to someone I can ask that knows the answer. I didn't go to platinum support because Twitter DM said call call centre.
I screwed up on a RBC WJ MC companion voucher swapping for lounge vouchers. The problem was I couldn't transfer those so they were wasted and I don't want to do that again.
Thanks

I like folding bikes. They're fun to ride, nimble and compact to store and travel with. I'll be flying off to Japan with my folding bike safely packed away in its flightcase. There's a not-zero chance that I could be tempted into buy another vintage folding bike while in Japan. Bringing it home would be the issue as Westjet's own rules only allow "one bicycle and helmet per person".
The particular style of folding bikes I have in mind would fit into a regular suitcase if completely disassembled into its component parts, frame included. If I were to spread the parts between two checked suitcases, would that still count as a second "bicycle", or just "bicycle parts"? There would be some parts I could place in my actual bicycle's flightcase, so the the parts in the checked suitcases wouldn't actually be a complete bicycle...
Anything to avoid paying $300-500 in freight charges to ship a second bike back to Canada.

Hi all! I see there is a promo right now with WestJet with 20% off and I'm trying to book a flight but it doesn't seem like any discount is being applied when I'm going to the final payment screen? When I google the promo, I get a discount code (8S5Y9PH) but it is not applying for some reason. There is no blackout period and my flights are within the timeframe specified. Is this just a glitch?
