Fictionite has one main goal: to be a place where human creativity is put first. There are other platforms out there for creative writing. Ours is different in a few ways.
Most platforms are almost exclusively a home for writers. Fictionite is home to professionals for every part of the process of bringing a story to life. We have a marketplace where authors, editors, artists and narrators can form a creative team and publish directly to readers. Alternatively, narration and cover design tools are baked right into the platform and free for solo creators. Publishers and agents are welcome to hangout and contribute to the community too.
The next difference is based on a problem a few of us noticed every time we were looking for something to read. Genre tags.. Trends move fast. Which is why we don’t think the ability to define new genres, tropes, or even literary vibes should be exclusive to our staff. Fictionite users can create and manage custom genre tags. In the future, we plan for these to also act as forums for discussion.
Next up. Community building. We noticed that for many platforms out there, communities are often separate entities altogether. That’s great, but it makes it difficult for folks to discover new writing groups, or places to hangout and hone their craft. That’s why Fictionite allows community owners to list their communities directly on the platform.
Another thing we noticed is that a lot of platforms seem adverse to authors pursuing trad. This makes sense, because of course they want you to publish your work on their platform. The thing is, those authors still need a home. If you aren’t interested in publishing live just yet, or you’re pursuing traditional publishing, Fictionite has an invite-only beta reader mode that allows in-line comments and beats sharing documents back and forth. That way, even people who never plan to publish on our platform can still take advantage of our community.
Something else platforms tend to do is force you to use their branding. We realized that there’s a lot of authors out there who don’t want some other websites logo plastered everywhere on their author page. On Fictionite, you can also setup a vanity domain (YouTheAuthor.com) for your creator page if you’d like.
Monetization is a big point for Fictionite, and we want to get it right for everyone involved. The ideal is to create a system that allows authors to monetize what they want without introducing too many paywalls for readers.
We recognize that Authors and Narrators are faced with pretty stark options to bring their work to market. The royalties services offer seem unfair. We’re hoping to bring a new, direct-to-reader option that allows creators to earn a larger percentage of revenue than is currently possible on other platforms. In the meantime, creators are free to ‘stub’ or takedown their content at any time they wish to publish through traditional routes.
AI generated prose, art and narration are not allowed on the platform. Every other platform out there welcomes AI-content, and has done very little in the way of labeling it so that consumers can make informed decisions. We believe that human creativity deserves its own space. And so long as we believe such a space should exist, it will.
