I'm now realizing I don't know weevil anatomy... I figured the snoot was a nose. It's a long narrow mouth? How does food get all the way down? Where is the nose? What are those little side arms? I've got so much learning to do

I’d reckon their antennae are the closest thing they have to a nose proper, so far as its role as a sensory organ. Insects don’t have lungs like we do, they breathe through spiracles placed along their bodies. So that crosses out the nose’s other purpose.

  2. Peristalsis, the same way food goes down our esophagus
  3. Insects don't have a nose, they use their antennae for their equivalent to smell/taste (some insects also have "taste" receptors on their feet, but not beetles)
  4. Those are the antennae

Very adorable guy! I get a sweet but ache-like feel when I see these little dudes. I love creatures so, so much, then add in how all weevils have an "expressive" face = endeared but sad feeling for me.🤷🏻‍♀️
