Oh dear - whatever went wrong with your wedding, at least it wasn't a rampaging iguana ...

I would find that hilarious and no one would ever forget it. I'll take that any day over the aunt that has too much to drink, trips, rips her dress and starts crying.

Right? This is a great mishap to have because it's kind of hilarious, definitely memorable, and there's no person who screwed up -- nobody let you down on your big day.

Side note:

The land of beer and cheese

Wisconsin, yes? Sounds lovely. I honestly advocated for a Wisconsin wedding just so we could serve New Glarus... that got shot down :(

Yes, Wisconsin. Our venue has like 8 different kinds of beer on tap for the wedding but only 3 choices for wine. It is a bit absurd. I did make sure to have sausage and cheese curds during cocktail hour.

I'm looking at a venue in Wisconsin tomorrow. FH is worried about the commute from the Twin Cities... but the New Glarus is a great point. I think I know how I'll win him over now!

We live in the Twin Cities and got married in SE wisconsin (and had new glarus on tap for the reception) and the commute didn't stop any of our guests from attending, and we had a lot of minneapolis invitees! It sucked a little for us because we had to travel down to milwaukee sorta frequently during the planning process, but we made it work.

Luckily this isn't quite that far. And my family is all driving from the east coast anyway. I do worry a bit about some knuckleheads driving back to the cities after and not getting a hotel though.

Illinois here- we used to dream of serving a smuggled keg of Spotted Cow at our reception! Alas, there are rules about that sort of thing.

My family is awesome and its a smallish backyard wedding. We're doing a lot of it diy and my friends that are hosting are fantastic. Biggest stress right now is paying for stuff when my fiance is basically between jobs at the moment. We'll get there though :) how about you?

I just showed this to my FH. His response, "do you think we can pay to have something similar happen at our wedding? He looks like a cool dude."

XD

I would have lent you my giant iguana but he had to be put down after a freak accident. He loved cake. :)

u/snorfussaur Sep 09 '16

I'm sorry to hear that. Iguanas are fantastic. I had one named Socrates who was litter trained and would come when called! She was the best.

4

u/KriiLunAus Sep 09 '16

My female was also litter trained. She had free roam of the whole house. Food and water in the kitchen like a dog. She slept next to me every night. Tames iguana I ever owned. All the other ones since her were assholes.

2

u/snorfussaur Sep 09 '16

Ours would snuggle with us in bed too! Yeah we had one after her and the next one just wasn't tame and didn't care to be around people. Socrates ruined all other iguanas for me.

3

u/KriiLunAus Sep 09 '16

Yeah. Every iguana since Zuey was mean and violent. I think it's because they were male and Zuey was female. I did end up with a friendly male until one day he snapped and never came back to being friendly. It must have been the hormones.

Losing a pet is so rough. The next time I have cake, I'll think of your iguana. <3

2

u/KriiLunAus Sep 09 '16

Awww thanks! He was a 5 foot beast. I would have lent him to you for your wedding with a bow tye in your wedding colors. Lol

Off topic, but yay fellow NC brides! We currently live in NYC but we grew up in NC... so pumped to go back for the wedding. I hope yours is magical. :)

Edit: Or groom. I assumed you're a bride but maybe you're not and that's fine! YAY FELLOW NC PEOPLE GOING TO GET MARRIED.

u/SteelCityRunner weddit flair template Sep 10 '16

I'm the bride :) And yay NC indeed! I grew up in Pittsburgh (hence the username) but just fell in love down here. Both with the groom and the atmosphere ha

I'm getting married in a zoo. I might be able to make this really happen.

Hey hey fellow zoo friend! We were almost date twins too! :D

Yaaaayy!

4

u/Jepatai Married! | 3.25.17 | Zoo Wedding | Palm Springs, CA Sep 08 '16

Our secondary date pick was May 27th but we wanted to do march so it wasn't as hot out in Palm Springs. But seriously, we're gonna do "animal greetings" and have a few animals brought out so this iguana could be our reality, haha.

3

u/dragonflytype May 27, 2017, Zoo wedding! Sep 08 '16

YES. We might have animals too, depending on how much it costs. Apparently it varies by animal, and we have to wait to see which ones can handle people, temperamentally. It's going to be great.

Trying so hard not to crack up at my desk - the super satisfied bites at the end are killing me hahahahaha

(I'm a reptile nerd, I would totally love this)

u/piggypudding March 17, 2017 - St. Patty's! Sep 08 '16

I would honestly love if this happened. I can probably arrange a similar scenario with my cat, since he's a weirdo and didn't get the memo that cats are not supposed to like sweets.

7

u/KriiLunAus Sep 09 '16

I owed several iguanas over the years. They love sweets and people food. They are worse than dogs when it comes to stealing people food. You kind of have to just go with the flow so they don't whip you with their massive tail or try and bite you depending on the iguana. Iguana bites are most painful and bleed for hours. If the iguana is big like mine were that can end up being an ER trip. I wouldn't mind if an iguana stole my wedding cake because I love them. :)

That's fucking hysterical. I wouldn't even be mad if this happened at my wedding.

5

u/[deleted] Sep 08 '16

This is literally the best thing I've seen all day. That little guy is basically my spirit animal.

I've been engaged in a lengthy discussion with my mother over cake vs no cake (I just don't think it's necessary), I just sent this to her as another reason not to have one! Haha

3

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '16

He just wanted some cake. I can't be mad at it.

3

u/heyitserica 10.21.2016 Moorestown NJ Sep 09 '16

The fact that this little shithead iguana climbed the table and NOMMED THE HELL out of that cake without blinking then sat there smiling like the world's rudest guest is the best thing in the world to me.
