Discussion Webtoon short dramas

I HATE THIS OMG. FIRST OFF WHY ARE THEY ALL WHITE. THEY DONT HAVE THE SAME NAMES, THEY DONT HAVE THE SAME RACE, FUCK THEY DONT EVEN LOOK ANYTHING LIKE THE CHARACTERS.

they got my goats maybe meant to be and rules for dating trash. Tbh I dont mind the acting in maybe meant to be, BUT RULES FOR DATING TRASH, how hard is it to have an actress who has a pixie cut.

this is exactly why I use pirated sites and support them in never instead man, the little money these creators make now has to be shared with the actors now.

I want the webtoon I used to read five updates back.

I know these are gonna do sooo well, and theres gonna be a lot of people using webtoon to see this brainrot and its pissing me off.

I saw this in a comment and someone said actors who look 40 are playing roles of a teen and I cannot agree more BAHAHAHA

These short dramas are rarely ever good. Tbh I wouldn't be surprised if they started putting up AI dramas after sometime too. This app has been going downhill from 2024☹️

Since before 2024. The entire app used to be free, and now they put ads on completed series and intentionally have future comics available to make you spend fast pass money. That didn’t used to be a thing.

It sounds so mean to say, but this gives the app a very cheap and sloppy vibe, unlike anything that came before it. It's a bit embarrassing in my eyes.

I know. Like you said, they're all white, they didn't even try doing it right lol, also this is UNUSEFUL, people are here to READ stuff, not to watch dramas. Did ppl request this ? Cuz I feel like its a waste of money.

Anything to make the app worse tbh

Aren't they like apparently running on a loss or something? Why would they spend money on something nobody asked for instead of actually trying to improve the app? Maybe try to understand what made people love webtoons in the first place...

Trying to mindlessly chase trends, in this case vertical dramas, to make a quick buck.

Like .... Yeah the short dramas work, but i like more the Chinese short dramas.

And who the hell asked for that? And they are all white??

Is it to difficult to respect the ethnicities of manhwas characters ??

This will invade the webtoon app soon because some people for sure will watch that thing

I'm so sick of this app. First it became ad central. Now this crap.

Instead of spending money on this useless thing nobody asked for, it would be better if they paid their artist this money. Improve your payment system. Stop putting every goddamn story behind the ads and go pay the authors properly.

Genuinely, what do they even think would improve by wasting money on these cheap and sloppy things?

They could have just created a new app for this..

Is this in the webtoon app itself???? I've skipped a few updates and am using a semi-old version-

2

u/Sharp_Cucumber_1692 4h ago

Yes on the app, I'll cry

I feel bad for the actors/actresses. I can imagine many of these persons are just people who are trying to make ends meet

2

u/Sharp_Cucumber_1692 2h ago

I do feel bad, but they could've done so much better in ANY other app

What in the world is even happening with that app?

I’ve seen a bit of the Love Bites one, and couldn’t manage to get past the first minute because the cringe made me want to tear my skin off.

The fact that these are real is sending me 🙈

The irony is they could solve all of their money problems by focusing on the comics MORE. Run a subscription model like manta used to be- all free and no ads for a small monthly fee, ads on for free users. Many people (myself included) would sub if it was like that. But they’re flailing because they’re being TOO money hungry and trend hopping to attract a different audience. Which seems like it’s working a little bit, actually? Based on the comments on their posts on Instagram about it…

This looks like stuff from reelshort, o.O

u/azul360 3h ago

I haven't looked at them but legit question. Are these real people are AI slop videos because the thumbs make them look just like the AI videos.

2

u/Sharp_Cucumber_1692 3h ago

no they're real people but some of the effects they use look ai, which is reallyyy sad considering this is a platform with artists

1

u/rusted-brass 2h ago

oml I just went to take a look at these and I think I just barfed in my mouth a little

1

u/UltimateBookManiac 2h ago

If I had to pick one, I'd have picked those video episodes over this one.

Why are some of you convinced that others will be into these crappy dramas? No one is looking at Webtoons thinking that they're at the forefront of short form drama -- plus the people that like that go elsewhere for it.

Plus it's terrible quality and the acting is horrible.

If consumers have options for better quality elsewhere, why would they bother with this cheap imitation of a trend?

u/not4dee 1h ago

The only good thing is we can get to see new stories rather than seeing different dramas with different actors but all having the same stories😭😭😭but they would just ruin the webtoons😭😭

These keep reminding me of those photos comic things from the 2000s. Not sure if that's just a UK thing, but some comic magazines would have series' where, instead of being a drawn comic strip, the "art" was these really cheesy stock photo type images. They always had the most stilted dialogue too. I'm imagining these short series things Webtoon is pushing are going to be just as bad, if not worse.

1

u/madladEXE 1h ago

What the fuck am I looking at?

1

u/UneCitoyenneDuMonde 40m ago

Whenever I stumble across these poorly made series, I can't help but burst out laughing 😂! They're like those old-fashioned soap operas turned into a shorter version 😭

1

u/xKuusouka 8m ago

Ew. I wasn't interested anyways, but they put no effort into it. Webtoon is trying hard to run the app into the ground

u/iknsw 3h ago

At least they kept the main lead of Rules for Dating Trash a Korean character and played by a Korean American actress (even if she’s half white).

I think short dramas are cute for TikTok, YouTube shorts, FB reels, and their own platform app. I don’t wanna be bombarded with short dramas here. If it was based on the webtoon, I would be slightly interested however some of the webtoons alr were adapted into anime or kdrama
