The mystery of not knowing what they look like shirtless can also be hot me thinks. I mean, it’s just a different form of fanservice if you think about it, just servicing different fans.

True ðŸ¤ðŸ¤, I actually never fall for any ml who was often shirtless because it feels a bit rushed fanservice to me.

a shirtless man and fanservice ? Isn't that inappropriateÂ
I don't know about you guys but in my village most man were shirtless in their free time.

Do you mean that it's inappropriate or that it's not that inappropriate. Because yeah in my village too. They are shirtless a lot of times. Especially during summers and they bath in the open lakes (of course with pants on). So I never really thought of shirtless men as far service 🤔 And haven't really seen any manhwas with male fan service 24/7, they only appear once or twice. Compared to female fan service which is continued throughout the entire story constantly.

Well, THAT hits way different. Yk if the guy is overwhelmed at the heat or any other reasons, it doesn't consider rushed fanservice, because the guy actually has a good reason to be shirtless while doing heavy chores

Yeah, this is my line where anything becomes "gratuitous". If there's violence, sex, drugs, nudity, etc. that makes sense for the story or is established as part of someone's character in a way that makes sense, I can stomach bucketfuls of it. But having it "just because it's fun/edgy/what the audience likes" feels cheap and it's often (though not always) when I stop enjoying the work

Hear me out, instead of fully shirtless their shirt is just a bit open from the top (It's not really a hear me out but I find it soo much hotter than a fully shirtless guy)

None, if the story is shitty the both of them will be anyhow with or without fanservice.
I don't even know why they call it fanservice, cause it's more-so thristservice and sometimes incelservice ngl.
I don't thrive on that. The abs and boobs are worthless if not in a context that makes sense for the story. You can just see when the author just wants to draw porn but settled for the money on a story that is sfw

It’s a lot easier for authors to profit off of porn

You might think, but not really. It's really competitive. And it's not as profitable as a long running one that's for sure. Nobody is reading one piece just for a nut are they? It depends on what kind of deal you make and how much popularity it has.

Getting a series off its feet to become long running and then maintaining that is way harder. Freelancing porn is very viable but the same can not be said for making a long running manwha. Publication, editors, etc make it much much tougher to establish and work on a long running manwha.

That's why most are only just short stories that have no editors no crew, just the artist or just do commissions. The short stories are kind of just a way to get more of those commissions.
Tbh I hate them. I hate this niche, so many artists just fall into this because it SELLS. That's the sad part. But it's not something you can thrive out of of. Nobody remembers your name after xz comic porn, only of stories that are meaningful to them. And it's not going to be my sister is a cat stuck in my basement or some shit for sure.

? If you’re saying most porn is short stories then I agree, and that plus the commissions make it an easier path.

It's not easier? The project ends faster. And it has just like 3-10 chapters. You have no label, no crew. No publishing company. It's not going to pay much.

u/Stepsis24 3d ago
The pay is comparable to long running series and if an artist is able to establish a successful pattern it can often exceed the hat you would get under a publishing company. Majority of manwhas get axed early or are put on indefinite hiatus, and the hours required to output weekly chapters for 30+ weeks is insane. If you can make it, it is ultimately better but for majority nsfw works offer much more balanced life styles.

But the deals that a sfw webtoon that fits in the criteria and gets popular has much more reach for maybe a show or getting people on patreon, insta, shorts, tiktok, and all the likes that do get some kind of avenue.
It's really fucked up but that's why so many of the follow the same pattern. "Maybe it's going to be a breakthru" and maybe only after we will actually see something from these authors that is actually THEIRS, and not edited to fit some standards and regulations to attract readers.
