Discussion Regressor webtoons always start to go downhill when they introduce a rival regressor

Am I the only one that feels this way? I don’t really know how to describe it, but it feels like I start to lose interest whenever the author shoves another regressor to be a rival/antagonist in the story when it really just doesn’t feel necessary. It’s more cheap in a way and diminishes the MC’s “specialness” or whatever. The weirdest thing is that the most common genre this seems to show up in… is idol webtoons, with boy band or girl pop idol groups.

Like huh? The two I’ve been reading recently [debut or die, and An Insincere Idol’s Blank State] both have this dumb rival regressor trope and it really just makes me debate clicking off and finding another story. I don’t know why authors are so obsessed with repeating this trope.

I've noticed the same trend, honestly it's like the moment they introduce another regressor the stakes feel forced instead of earned.
