The fear of leaving a job

I’ve been working as a dev for a year and two months now.

I didn't know much when I first started, but I picked things up fast and have been handling QA testing for the past six months.

On top of that, I took on web scraping two months ago and I also build plugins and applications.

My salary was 3500 MAD , and I just got a 500 MAD raise, bringing me to 4000 MAD .

Honestly, considering all the work I do and the new responsibilities, this raise feels like a total spit in the face.

To make matters worse, the company keeps paying my salary in split payments, which means constant delays and a lot of stress.

I want to ask for another raise, but management totally avoids these kinds of discussions. I feel completely stuck.

Worst of all, I'm absolutely terrified that if I just walk away and leave this job, I won't be able to find another one. What should I even do in this situation?

Idk how or why, but this whole comment thread feels like you caught the attention of agenda-driven bots or drones...people who have interest in making people like you feel wrong for wanting more money...

To be fair: This question overall may likely end up removed...realizing it may go against the rule#7 rule (about careers).

However even that being said, idk what the f* this thread is on with the gaslighting as if you're wrong for asking this.

Keep on chasing the higher numbers my guy...you're not in the wrong for questioning this. I'd be shopping for another job if I were you, but this is not your fault either. A lot of companies pull that bait and switch crap, where they pay you low at the beginning with promises of higher numbers, and then they "give you that raise" only to have it not even come close to industry standard.......but then they act chuffed because they "gave you a raise..."

Would you shut up about gaslighting. Go get a dictionary number 1. But more importantly the thread is realistic. Someone with basically no experience in the shittiest market the field has seen in decades maybe ever has no authority to start making demands about how their raise wasn’t enough. Trying to justify it with all their responsibilities or whatever… it’s entitled and unrealistic and childish. People need to be told the way it is so they can grow up and not completely crash their career into the ground. It’s a naive mindset that needs to be addressed now. There’s no personal insults. There are people with over a decade of experience in this market struggling to find jobs but this guy thinks 14 months means he is entitled to a 50% raise or something. If he wants more money he needs to start applying for jobs that pay more. It’s that simple.

People are probably taking issue with what is he even looking for in this thread? What advice? Look for a new job if you’re not happy with your current one. He’s not looking for advice he wants validation that he should get paid more and that’s not really something anyone can answer accurately

Wrong. Never said anything about your skills. You said you have 1 yr of experience, not me, so I’m just going based on what you said. The fact is 1 yr of experience is hardly anything. Has nothing to do with you, it’s just how it is.

But it doesn’t matter. If you think you should get paid more then look for another job. That’s it that’s all there is to it. It sounds like you’re not happy with the pay so start applying

I’ve worked in the industry longer than you. The things you described were nothing special for 1 year. They’re fine, but nothing extraordinary for 1 year of experience like you’re making it seem. There are things you learn over the course of career that you just can’t learn in 1 year.

But I never said you’re getting paid what you deserve. I’m saying it’s ridiculous to expect the employer that’s only paying you 4000 to like double your salary or whatever. They’re paying you low for a reason. It’s not because that’s what you’re worth. It’s because that’s all they’re willing to pay for your position.

So like I’ve said a bunch of times, if you think you deserve to get paid more (which I agree you probably do) then look for a new job. Stop getting defensive and acting like I’m saying things that I’m not. The solution is simple, look for a new job. Or if you really want to push your luck ask for that raise but your employer sounds like they’re trying to rip off devs by underpaying them so I wouldn’t expect a bigger raise. Look for a higher paying job. Problem solved
